I think you've got a rat infestation there.

The AI keeps putting the gerbils in the house, even when I explicitly tell it they can only be in the garden. I think you're going to have to live with them (but I'd do something about the rats if I were you).

Perhaps I need a very tall chair?
Is there a Pied Piper on the thread?

larklane17 · 26/11/2024 00:28

Phew! Must get that chimney swept and avoid that thread about log burners.

'Norks'😂
Did somebody on here make that word up, or is it an established term? I never encountered it before.
And 'norkage' is a wonderful derivative.

I foresee a fun evening in Pedantry Corner as we discuss the etymology of 'nork'Smile

larklane17 · 26/11/2024 08:14

I had cleared the decks to watch the FWS case in the Supreme Court this morning, online. I've now got emergency care of a sick child.
Needs must.

How do I convince said child that we are watching a very long episode of Ben and Holly? ( When it's really Ben and Naomi KCs.)

I've only ever seen it on MN, but it's in Collins:

www.collinsdictionary.com/us/dictionary/english/nork

And looking for the etymology I found this learned discussion

www.mumsnet.com/talk/other_subjects/367124-where-does-the-word-nork-originate

FuzzyPuffling · 26/11/2024 10:20

I've used the words " nork" and " norkage" for many years.
Definitely predate MN.

MarieDeGournay · 26/11/2024 10:32

As I always say, somebody here knows everythingSmile
Thank you for all the info on norks. I obviously missed out on these areas of British and Australian slang!

I always found it was my straight women friends who enthusiastically discussed other women's 'norkage'. I sometimes wondered if it was an elaborate trap to get me to sound like I was objectifying women so I usually murmured something very diplomatic like 'Yes, they are er...very nice, I'm sure'.Halo

Had a visitor the other weekend followed straight away by a visitor for the whole of last week who went home Sunday. I slept yesterday 😁. I have yet to catch up on what's been posted anywhere since 16th as I have been off the internet. I'm watching FWS supreme court thing at the moment.

DeanElderberry · 26/11/2024 11:34

Beeeeeeetle!

Welcome back.

The only and I mean, only, reason I own various wraps and ponchos and shawls was to enable me to get on the train when I worked in London, and slip off my bra and slide it down my sleeve into my rucksack because by the end of the day, my norks couldn't stand the strain of being held at a weird angle in a bra. I've not worn one since the day they announced the Canary Wharf COVID case when we all ended a meeting and went home.

My most prized skill is being able to take off my bra without taking off my top.

I have pretty generous norkage, which has the advantage of a large cleavage, in which to carry things when my clothes don't have pockets.

In other news, I think I can finally say I have cracked the edging for my blanket, after unpicking it more times than I care to remember. Now all I have to do is to make copious notes, so when I knit the blanket for Twin 2, I don't forget my fix, and have to do lots more unpicking and swearing.

lcakethereforeIam · 26/11/2024 11:45

Glad you're back Beetle. I admit I was worried. I'm staying clear of FWS. I think I'll just get stressed.

I'm going up Peak Woo with the pigs and a capybara. We're going to collect some greenery to use to decorate the Bluestocking for Christmas.

Chersfrozenface · 26/11/2024 11:47

(waves at Beetle)

Also, could pigs and capybaras be fitted with paniers, like pack ponies?

lcakethereforeIam · 26/11/2024 11:55

The pigs are. The capybara is in case I need a hand...paw...?...with carpentry.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/11/2024 12:03

I keep meaning to have a break from MN whenever I go on holiday but haven't managed it for ages. The pile of books awaiting (re)reading is sad testament to my addiction.Hmm

ErrolTheDragon · 26/11/2024 12:04

I wouldn't put panniers on a pig, given their predilection for rolling in mud.

Boiledbeetle · 26/11/2024 12:08

What the f#£k???! Who found my secret stash in my absence?

Bluestocking: Do androids dream of electric hair?
lcakethereforeIam · 26/11/2024 12:23

Have you seen Peak Woo recently? It's frozen solid!

Boiledbeetle · 26/11/2024 12:35

I've just got to the "where's Boiled?" Posts. Apologies for any worry caused.

I assume you stress ate my Tunnocks stash!
