I love sequins ( give them back, Magpie) and I love JKR. Although the QM was allegedly a cantankerous old bird with a love of gin and gambling.

Magpies are naturally iridescent, clad in shifting colours. No man made sequin could compete with that subtle complexity. The 'black and white' thing is a cunning trick.
