”BREAKING: The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, has this week met with the Darlington nurses and said he is committed to the belief that sex is biological being reflected in the day-to-day running of the NHS under his watch. The nurses, who are being supported by the Christian Legal Centre, also handed in a CitizenGo petition signed by 48,000 people to Number 10 Downing Street calling for the government to do whatever is necessary to ensure women have access to single-sex changing rooms and toilets. The meeting followed a statement Mr Streeting made in the lead up to the General Election in June when he said on X/Twitter that he was ‘horrified’ by their case and wanted to meet. Mr Streeting gave the response after the nurses launched legal action against County Durham and Darlington NHS Trust over being forced to share a changing room with a man identifying as a woman. Darlington nurse, and President of the DNU, Bethany Hutchison, said: “We were nervous going into the meeting, but he put us at ease, gave us time and listened, which was encouraging. We now, however, need to see firm action from Wes and a clear consensus from the government and the NHS on these issues. “Sadly, we continue to be treated appallingly by the Trust. The policy they have in place is putting women at risk and is open to abuse and should be changed urgently. We have been shocked, however, to find that the ‘rights’ of a man identifying as a woman continue to be supported and promoted, while ours as women have been ignored and even pushed out. “We are not doing this just for nurses. We are doing this for women across the country, for example those who are working in the police force, but also for sisters, daughters and mothers everywhere.”

Absolutely! I know it's the Telegraph rather than, say, the Guardian or I, but from the wording of the comments I think a lot of these people are outside the debate, just ordinary people seeing the madness for what it is.

Does anyone know regarding the fragrant Dr Upton and other trans doctors getting a shiny new GMC registration and, although possibly not now, their history wiped, is there a similar system for nurses? Will the fragrant Rose, and others of his ilk, have a new number and cleaned history on a nursing register somewhere?

Its disappointing that the counsel for the Darlington nurses is an anti abortion activist, and is from the CLC, which is a deeply troubling organisation.

I'm fully supportive of the nurses, but wish it was Ben Cooper or Naomi Cunningham taking the case.

Well, it just is them and not Naomi or Ben, nowt we can do about that but at least they didn't have to crowdfund for it AFAIK.

Do we know if this one will be viewable remotely? Although it'll be June and I really hope not to spend my summer glued to screens.

Yep. I'd say the general public have run out of all sympathy and patience for the rights of men to access women's bodies for 'affirmation' purposes.

Just scunnered it took so long.

Paracetamol only after my first c-section. I asked for something stronger after my second and got it. I’m happy to be corrected by any passing medics, but I’d be surprised if there are any other major abdominal surgeries where you’re expected to start 24/7 childcare <12 hours post-op with only paracetamol to manage your pain.

It may be that sometimes they don't want to give you anything more than necessary. I had only paracetamol after my last c-section, and it was really fine. There was a little discomfort, but not enough to stop me moving around and so on. o i didn't need more.

After my third section the doctor gave me something super-strong, and it was awful, it made me dizzy and I felt like I might drop the baby. He was a total pick when I asked if I could have something else and said "You've just had major surgery." The nurse was very helpful and made arrangements for a different medication.

But I guess there is a fair bit of variety in what different patients find works.

I think this comment nailed it:

It's always about power. If the NHS made a gender neutral bathroom available, this person wouldn't want to use it. He has to be in the women's space for his full fantasy to be achieved. Just another troublemaker intent on invading womens private spaces. No no no.

It's good to see so many people belatedly waking up to this issue and recognising the power play that underpins the behaviours of some males who identify as women.

I say "some" because I know a trans woman who is very open about the fact they are still male and uses male facilities.

Their stance is not only that you can't change sex (despite any documentation or presentation/medical interventions) but that absolutely nothing undermines your credibility as a trans "woman" by claiming male entitlement and having zero insight/empathy for why women need single sex spaces.

They have (in 5 years) never been threatened or harassed when using male facilities.

Madcats · 27/02/2025 19:22

So Wes was going to do something in October and it is now, checks calendar, March on Saturday.

With the almighty clusterfuk going on in Fife, the intervention of EHRC, countless legals saying the changing room provision isn't legal....22 Mumsnet Threads......wouldn't you think he and some high-ranking legal bod in govt or the NHS would have had a Damascene moment (aka "oh shit, we need to fix this") and got on the blower to the Chief Exec?

Why are they so scared of all these men without GRC's?

HerGorgeousMajestyArabellaScott · 27/02/2025 19:32

I suspect the gov may be waiting for the supreme court.

That is what Wes Streeting told the Darlington nurses in a letter as reported in the Daily Telegraph https://archive.ph/wDPHZ

I don't get this. Why SHOULD they have anonymity?

Women involved in various cases which have UPHELD their legal rights have been unfortunately have to go public and yes, they have been sent threats from trans activists.

JKR has spoken about these cases and has clearly donated in the past. She's had an actual legal case due to someone harassing and stalking her over it.

Let's just have this out in the open - if women are having to go public - and then it's found THEY have been the victims, it's totally fucked up to have anonymity going on.

Perhaps the trans activists could cut the probable crap on this.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 28/02/2025 16:29

I suppose men being outed as insisting on watching women colleagues undressing / being allowed to undress in front of them would under normal circumstances be being investigated by the police for voyeurism and indecent exposure. It's only the fig leaf of trans identity that gives them the "protection" from being treated as a common or garden pervert.
No wonder they ask for confidentiality! The cold eye of publicity raises all sorts of legitimate questions about motivation and women's safety.

Indeed.

They're worried about backlash, well too fucking right.

It's unbelievable that our laws aimed at keeping women and girls safe are being upended in this way. And promoted by the sainted NHS as well.

The only positive in all this is that the population at large fully accept that random men (no matter how they self identify) shouldn't be stripping alongside women and girls and they're are finally making their voices heard.

It becomes clearer and clearer

Not sure if this has been mentioned on another thread, but it seems that Rose Henderson's father is Dale Henderson, a nurse who has been suspended by the NMC before appearing in court on child sex abuse offences.

I haven't been able to find out the outcome of the trial, but here is a news report of the charges:

Wasn't there something in the information from the Tavistock cohort, children with gender distress were much more likely to have a sex offender as a parent than the general population?

HerGorgeousMajestyArabellaScott · 04/03/2025 11:20

Ten times more likely iirc

Really?! And no ones curiosity was peaked that maybe, just maybe something might be relevant here?

lcakethereforeIam · 04/03/2025 14:16

Some of the staff seem to have been astoundingly lacking in curiosity about so many things, the massive increase in cases particularly in girls, the over representation of children who were on the autistic spectrum or same sex attracted. Curiosity seems to have been deemed transphobic.

I don't want to speculate about the victims of Rose's father. From the article they were historic offences. I hope he got an appropriately severe sentence, I hope they saw justice. Wouldn't surprise me though if the case was still waiting to be heard.

Whatever may have happened in Rose's past that may have contributed to him claiming to be trans he shouldn't be using women's spaces.

HerGorgeousMajestyArabellaScott · 04/03/2025 14:52

'In 2000, the only clinical audit of patients ever carried out by Gids found that more than 25 per cent of referrals had spent time in care, compared with 0.67 per cent of the general population. Children referred to Gids were ten times more likely than the national average to have a registered sex offender as a parent, while 42 per cent had lost a parent through death or separation, and 70 per cent had more than five “associated features” such as anxiety, depression, abuse, self-harm, bullying, eating disorders or suicide attempts.'

That is scarily similar to the Challenor case.

It's been mentioned on the Sandie Peggie thread and I think someone tried to start a thread about it, which was quickly deleted by MN.

As there are potentially two live cases involved, I think we should exercise some caution.

HerGorgeousMajestyArabellaScott · 04/03/2025 15:51

Right, that took blooming ages.

This seems to be the paper from the audit carried out at GIDS.
