and failing all that can someone send a gerbil up to switch off the main cold water stop cock as it appears to be stuck in the on position and no amount of trying will budge the bloody thing and I can't stop the water!!

Not much help right now Boily, but I was taught years ago never to leave a stopcock in the fully open position, because they do exactly what yours has, and jam open. Turn it all the way open, then close it by a quarter turn or so. I've lived in a succession of Victorian houses with no accessible indoor mains stopcock, so I follow this advice religiously because otherwise I have no way of isolating the mains at all.

I'm just annoyed because in my working life I was a builder! But alas I am no longer well enough (or it appears strong enough to even switch the stop cock off) to lie on the bathroom floor with my arms above my head In a tiny gap trying to fix the bloody pipe back into position.

I've got my mates trainee plumber child coming out tomorrow to wriggle around on the floor in the bathroom and grapple with the stuck stop cock!

As for the shower, it turns out Mira do an installation service to go with the replacement shower I've just ordered.

Today has been rather more expensive than I'd planned it to be!
