Pig killing, whatever the circumstances. LALALalalala. Fingers firmly in ears.

My wellies are Le Chameau. They are 5 or 6 years old now and wonderful. I can walk miles in them.

lcakethereforeIam · 09/10/2024 13:42

Isn't there something about wearing red tomorrow? Although I've reminded myself of that Millais painting and we're the Huguenots.

I need some new wellies. My current ones I picked up from a supermarket years ago. They've both split on the ankle so let in water but still do the business so far as mud goes. I also sprained my left ankle during covid and my right a few months ago and neither have been quite the same since. I need a pair that'll fit, and that I can remove without pain.

MarieDeGournay · 09/10/2024 12:09

Good luck with all that, Woley! I hope they come up with something that fixes one thing without triggering another!

When you are a diabetic, you have to be careful trimming your toenails, so maybe you are subconsciously wishing for your own Nate the Hoof Guy?Smile

Well - he is jolly handsome, so you may be right, @MarieDeGournay! Though I don’t fancy being put in the crush, that @Dumbo12 mentions - I’m not that way inclined - lol.

@ifIwerenotanandroid - I’m using the Dexcom 1 monitor, and it seems to be working well for me. The nurse didn’t offer me the urinalysis sticks, but she knew I’d got the monitor on, so maybe that’s why. I’ll be honest - I picked it because it is cheaper than the Freestyle Libre one.

I’m assuming that, once I’m settled on a medication, and my sugars are OK, the occasional treat won’t be too bad.

lcakethereforeIam · 09/10/2024 13:45

Totally read that as Defcom 😁

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/10/2024 13:47

😂😂😂

ifIwerenotanandroid · 09/10/2024 13:51

OMG, I'm reading the Defcom Monitor page & I'm getting the Geordie LeForge effect (it happened whenever he started talking about engineering): my eyes glaze over & nothing means anything any more.

It happens a lot when I try to learn about diabetes. Combination of stress/fear of illness & dire consequences, pig ignorance, too many abbreviations & their conflicting numbering systems. MUST TRY HARDER.

I hope they can fit your meds, @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

@AlisonDonut you could pass as Father Christmas in those boots... My latest wellies are a pair of Muckboots, bought on reduced last summer at the local agricultural suppliers. My last wellies (same ag suppliers cheapest own-brand) had done two winters and developed cracks on the heel).

I did have a pink polkadot pair but they got a hole in them a couple of years ago. Hence buying rigger boots.

To be fair to the rigger boots, we had such bad weather last winter, and I was redoing the whole of our veg patch, cutting wood and making new raised beds, moving claggy soil and levelling everything - I did work them pretty hard. But still, they were meant for blokes on building sites. A middle aged woman building a potager should have been a breeze.

MarieDeGournay · 09/10/2024 15:03

This made me laugh, because of the clever writing, brava ifIwerenotanandroid!
Like an O. Henry story, with the twist in the tail. Which is appropriate for a pig-related storySmile

But also a hollow laugh at the hypocrisy of people who say they love their animals and call them Daisy and Buttercup and stuff. And then, as you say, 'blow them away', and eat them. Or ship them off in cruel conditions for somebody else to blow them away and eat them...

Love the red wellies, Alison, and you have them just in time for wearing red for XX day, tomorrow the XXth of the XXth.
I've managed to find a red scarf. Unfortunately I'm not going anywhere tomorrow, unless I put off collecting my meds from the chemists until tomorrow... which seems unwise.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/10/2024 15:08

You are very wise, @MarieDeGournay.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 09/10/2024 15:44

@MarieDeGournay You give me too much credit: the story is very much as I remember the farmer saying it, though he probably said shoot it in the back of the head, which after the build up gave me the same, 'What? What did he just say? It sounded so lovely up until then!'. IIRC it was all about the quality of the meat, but that works out best for the piggies too - a nice life & then a death you know nothing about. Apart from the not living bit, it's all marvellous.

I have just renewed my car insurance. Exhausted. Drink please...nice cup of tea should do it.

You shouldn't glaze over too much with Geordi La Forge in case he starts that 'every time I touch the engine I'm touching you' stuff. Very very creepy.

I'm going to put on Lucy Worsley's - hang on, I was looking for 'Lady Swindlers' & I've found a new series of 'Lady Killers'. Ooooh! Did I dream Lady Swindlers?

@FuzzyPuffling Who did you go with?

I went through One Call.
Brokers, but I got money off their renewal price (under £200) with added breakdown cover, protected NCD and legal cover.

Well. That was exciting, wasn't it!
Thanks, gerbil, for the tea and cake.
