Horrific story about death due to surgical complications, was reading it and poof. Anyone know what happened. This is such important information to get out there.

I missed that.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 19/08/2024 09:22

Me too.

Helleofabore · 19/08/2024 09:26

Maybe we should not mention names and stick to discussing the operation generally. I suspect that some posters don’t want names mentioned.

I saw this news last week and felt angry at the activists who have pushed for this surgery. Those who dismiss the reality of the horror of its very low rate of even producing something that works. Considering the detansitioners who remind us of the potential permanent negative side effects on testosterone to the kidneys, bladder and urethra that some still experience after detransition, I cannot imagine a medical team thinking this was ever something that should be attempted.

I have seen this high risk dismissed on MN previously as just the acceptable risk for ‘affirming’ surgery.

lcakethereforeIam · 19/08/2024 09:28

I was just reading the linked Ovarit threads when it was deleted. I was wondering if it was about fictional person, planted to get us worked up about nothing, especially as the last letters of her name spelled 'terv' backwards, iirc.

steadywinner · 19/08/2024 09:29

I wonder if the likes of David Tennant bother to read about these sort of outcomes? Absolutely tragic.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 19/08/2024 09:29

Presumably we’re talking about phalloplasty?
Was the problem with the site the skin was removed from, or where it was grafted to?

A friend had skin grafting after cancer treatment. It really isn’t a trivial process.

WarriorN · 19/08/2024 09:30

It is not acceptable risk and clearly an appalling tragedy.

I will post this piece by the Metro again which glorifies the channel 4 programme naked attraction which glorifies and encourages young women to have these extremely debilitating and dangerous surgeries.

From what I can gather having read the original TikTok posts, there were endless urinary problems. The original operation didn't go well and there were numerous follow up surgeries and infections.

RainWithSunnySpells · 19/08/2024 09:33

If you have an operation that messes with your urinary system, then one of the complications can be trouble urinating. This is a big problem, especially when repeated UTIs cause kidney issues and the renal failure. The other complications mentioned in the case included sepsis, DVT and a brain bleed.

Taytoface · 19/08/2024 09:33

Does anyone know who the OP was?

Was it a recent death? There’s one from 2013 that’s pretty tragic, but I can see why people would object to that being dragged up as a criticism of the surgery now. Though it should be up for discussion as long as it’s clearly flagged as not recent.

RainWithSunnySpells · 19/08/2024 09:34

Last month.

Lovelyview · 19/08/2024 09:34

It's a horrific story. There's a lot about it on Twitter. I was astonished to find out this surgery is going to be offered on the NHS at this clinic https://gendersurgery.chelwest.nhs.uk I don't know if it is already offered elsewhere on the NHS. I'm gobsmacked that anyone thinks this is a good idea.

It's not fiction. Well documented over the last few years. They posted everything themselves on Tiktok.

Taytoface · 19/08/2024 09:37

I am not sure I am using the search correctly, but I can't find any other posts by that user.

@FoxtrotOscarKindaDay thank you. Not fiction, i should have put that in my post. I wish it was. That poor girl.

RainWithSunnySpells · 19/08/2024 09:39

Possibly a name change for that specific thread. I can understand why as it is such a heart breaking topic.

Meadowwild · 19/08/2024 09:39

If it is last month I am very concerned that it doesn't show up at the top of any Google search. That suggests suppression of the news. My Google search flags cases in 2021 and 2013 - profoundly tragic cases . But nothing more recent.

WarriorN · 19/08/2024 09:40

It's not reported in any press articles.

PronounssheRa · 19/08/2024 09:40

MNHQ are doing some checks on the original thread

It didn't! The name was Griffin Severt - a real person who died last month.

NotBadConsidering · 19/08/2024 09:43

I suspect that as soon as it was posted the Monitors got their clicky finger gang going crazy on the report button because it’s a startling and shocking example of where this ideology leads, and they don’t want anyone to see it in all its reality.
