The Bluestocking is reopening

It's time we reopened the Bluestocking, I think.

This is the FWR pub, situated in the charming village of Badley Fuckitt near the Shady Pines rest home. It has a cannon (for reasons lost in the mists of time), goats in the paddock next to the beer garden and a menu including many soups and cakes. It's open all hours, serving breakfast and tea to all weary women, in addition to being the ideal location to metaphorically drown your sorrows.

Attention all, my dance card is now full for the evening. I shall be spending quality time molting profusely all over @namechangeforgoodreason best trousers!

I feel very honoured!

FuzzyPuffling · 03/08/2024 20:22

@Boiledbeetle Boily. that is either very funny or very awful. Let you know later!

@TheBluestockingCat have you.tried Bonkers? Highly recommended by the Fuzzycats.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/08/2024 20:22

If you do that on this thread you're barred, @Boiledbeetle
(We're a way off that yet, but please if someone notices we're nearing the end, please do open the next iteration and link back. )

@namechangeforgoodreason - hugs and Wine from me too. The tide is turning, I think, now that more of the Powers that Be are seeing the evidence.

I should probably change my name again, as I've linked my real name and writing to this username on other threads. But thank you @ErrolTheDragon and I hope you're right. I've seen an outbreak of groupthink the last couple of days which has honestly surprised me. Up until this week, I would have sworn that people had calmed down and were beginning to accept the idea that people were at least allowed to discuss these matters and have differing opinions.

Wouldn't be the first time I was barred from a pub! Although it would be the first time it was for a gif crime!

I promise I won't be getting barred! (At least not for that!)

😁

I tried feeding @TheBluestockingCat some bonkers, unfortunately I was left eating the treats whilst she wandered off with my fish supper!

That's cats for you. World rulers.

Can I sit here for a minute? I've just lost an editing job and a friendship over this whole boxing situation and a newsletter I wrote about it. I'm just gutted, and I feel very alone right now.

That's so awful, I'm really sorry. Life can be awful and I'm glad you've come to a place of refuge with an unlimited supply of support, sympathy, hugs, calories, alcohol and small furry animalsFlowers

namechangeforgoodreason · 03/08/2024 21:28

Thank you all for the support. This is what I wrote that got me cancelled and cost me a job, by the way. If you're on substack and you want to connect, please do! I'm going to change my name again now!

Thank you! I only wish this pub existed in real life!

NoBinturongsHereMate · 04/08/2024 01:00

Apparently 18% of people failed gcse biology.

It's nothing to what namechange is going through (I'm sorry you've taken such a hit from this outbreak of insanity - not so long ago 'men shouldn't hit women' was a basic tenet of civilised society rather than heresy) but this has reminded me of an old grudge I like to bring out for an airing from time to time.

I did not fail GCSE biology. I'll never know my exact score for the real thing, but in the mock I got 99%.

Obviously I wanted to know the wrong answer, so I asked the teacher who'd marked it.

It was on thermoregulation, and involved drawing a graph of body temperature through the day for a human and a camel. I got the camel spot on. I put the human as 1 degree higher in the afternoon than the morning - which the teacher conceded was correct, but beyond the sylabus content - so the marking scheme had it as a level line and she'd had to follow that to be realistic.

One day I will hunt down the writer of that marking scheme and demand my 1% back.

My ferry goes in 2 hours. I have been up for an hour and a half already.

I fully stocked up on a box of dreamies, a different type of dreamy, some cat sticks and some bonkers for the gang.

I've had to borrow Mr's new socks due to a miscalculation on my part. But I'm raring to leave this hotel and get on that ferry

Au revoir UK. Bonne Journee. And Merci.

EdithStourton · 04/08/2024 06:57

Have a good trip home, @AlisonDonut

Sympathies to those with friend and work problems due to the mass delusion about what a woman is.

What we need to cheer us all up is a vast Sunday roast. Shall I crack on with the batter for the Yorkshire puds?

FuzzyPuffling · 04/08/2024 07:13

@namechangeforgoodreason well, I thought your piece was a blooming good read.

Bring on the yorkies!

Thank you so much! I linked it and then wondered if maybe it's not appropriate to do that in this pub, so apologies if it's not the done thing!

I am also very keen on the idea of a massive Sunday roast. Roast potatoes make life worth living.

Ah, a woman after my own heart. With Maldon salt, obvs.

I'd better go and start peeling...

MidnightFumble · 04/08/2024 08:49

Double congratulations @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius best crack on with those blankets!
@namechangeforgoodreason I am so sorry. I'll definitely garden for you if needed.

Now then, coffee and toast I think.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/08/2024 09:15

Links to blog posts are very appropriate for a pub imo, they're sort of like the pile of Sunday supplement magazines.

I suggest the FSU, Sex Matters, and SEEN in publishing may be worth contacting.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 04/08/2024 09:21

I enjoyed your blog @namechangeforgoodreason it was very well put.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 04/08/2024 09:23

I cooked an enormous pulled pork yesterday and there's far too much for us, so I'll put it out on the buffet table if that's okay. Though I says it as shouldn't, it was very tasty and very tender. There's some coleslaw and brioche buns to go with it too.

FuzzyPuffling · 04/08/2024 09:33

Cheese. We need cheese. And perhaps a nice quiche for the vegetarians?

lcakethereforeIam · 04/08/2024 10:22

I know it's not Christmas <peers nervously at shops> but, shall I make some pigs in blankets?
