The Bluestocking is reopening

It's time we reopened the Bluestocking, I think.

This is the FWR pub, situated in the charming village of Badley Fuckitt near the Shady Pines rest home. It has a cannon (for reasons lost in the mists of time), goats in the paddock next to the beer garden and a menu including many soups and cakes. It's open all hours, serving breakfast and tea to all weary women, in addition to being the ideal location to metaphorically drown your sorrows.

I'm craving a long island ice tea now.

Oooft, i need to come in and put my feet up for a moment. Please tell me under-18s aren't allowed in the bar so I can hide from the kids for a minute

The Bluestocking has a choice of bars, depending on whether you want your (or other peoples) kids with you or not. Obviously there's a crèche and games room for older kids, but the main ones are at The Staunch Ally where the blokes know how to parent well not merely 'babysit'.

Is the cat ignoring you? as punishment for the abandonment, or are you being love bombed in the hopes of treats?

Unfortunately. Only back at the hotel, not home.

The semi ferals in the garden will not ignore me but the stroppy fella at the cattery...I have no idea how that will go. 3 sleeps til I can pick him up.

I genuinely cannot wait to see them all again.

Yikes.
OK, cat, your wish is my command. I know how these cat things work.

You disappoint me Errol. The Bluestocking has never opened its doors to kids. Next you'll be wanting a Nappy changing room.
There's a pub down the road. Bluestocking is a kids free zone.
We accommodate many things, including f king Quokkas.

I'll be honest I've seen some in the car park but there's a little bus waiting outside where they are magically whisked off to a nursery in a barn three fields away.

You can just about, if you strain, hear the sound of happy children's laughter, but you have to have exceptional hearing!

highame · 02/08/2024 10:47

😂

MidnightFumble · 02/08/2024 16:52

I leave mine at The Reversing Ferret, with their dad. They seem happy enough there.
I'd like a bag of prawn cocktail crisps please, while I decide what I'd like to drink.

lcakethereforeIam · 02/08/2024 23:24

When I was a sprog my parents used to leave us in the car. They'd occasionally visit us with crisps and bottles of pop. We must have had iron control of our bladders.

Definitelyrandom · 02/08/2024 23:31

Currently sipping a West Cork Irish whiskey (bought in Luxembourg).

Offspring are grown up and mostly away. Would be delighted to welcome them as they are civilised and have sensible views - but at this time I’d expect small others’ offspring to be tucked up!

Definitelyrandom · 02/08/2024 23:33

Just to add that I’ll not be staying if our civilised greyhound can’t be here.

lcakethereforeIam · 02/08/2024 23:39

We've got quokkas, goats, cats, gerbils, at least one capybara, possibly a binturong and, I think, a corgi. I don't see an additional greyhound being a problem.

Definitely no binturongs, no. It's a malicious rumour spread by Big Viverra.

lcakethereforeIam · 03/08/2024 13:48

I think someone left popcorn in the pocket of that scruffy fur coat on the hat stand by the pinball machine. Someone else smelled it, put 2 and 2 together and got binturong.

My husband hasn't read them and as I'm sick of saying 'it doesn't happen like that in the books!!' while we're watching the films, we are currently listening to the books on Audible, when we are driving around. Listening to Stephen Fry's voice is wonderful but his erratic pronunciation of Malfoy is getting on my wick!

Stephen Fry tells a wonderful story against himself - apparently, when recording the third book, he had a nightmare saying the phrase “Harry pocketed it” - he could say each word individually, but altogether it came out as Harry pocketededed it. So he asked JKR if he could change it to Harry put it in his pocket, and she said No. And then she made sure she used the same phrase in each subsequent book, to mess with him!

I am a bit sad today - I lost a friend over this stuff about the boxers with XY chromosomes fighting women in the Olympics. She is clearly fully captured by trans ideology, and when I posted about the boxing yesterday, she got really irate and blocked me - after having a nasty rant at one of my GC friends. So I am going to hang out in here today, drinking cocktails, eating lots of stuff that is bad for me, and watching the dressage.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/08/2024 14:32

On the plus side, though - I got good news this week - I am going to be a granny again, and I will be knitting two blankets, not just one.

taylorswift1989 · 03/08/2024 15:02

I need a drink.

taylorswift1989 · 03/08/2024 15:03

I don't even drink. But I need something to stop the RAGE.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 03/08/2024 15:05

Same here, my guts are in a knot.

taylorswift1989 · 03/08/2024 15:07

I'm going for a walk with the dogs. Hopefully will help!
