Tommy Robinson and Let Women Speak

I've only read about this on Twitter so there's a chance this is being taken out of context, but it looks like Let Women Speak were part of Tommy Robinson's rally in London this past weekend:

This doesn't sit right with me at all. I've been to LWS events and thought I knew what they were about. I've argued against the guilt-by-association tactics that some activists use against LWS when male intruders have turned up to the events, like the neo-Nazis in Melbourne.

But here we see the opposite, LWS deliberately attending far-right fascist marches. This seems inexcusable to me.

I'd be embarrassed to be a Johnny come lately, armed only with Google, berating much wiser women.

My first vote was for Harold Wilson. Anti Apartheid rallies with the NF there. As a trade union e/c member I spoke at meetings with Michael Foot, Grunwick, Wapping, Messenger, Miners strikes, many disputes. Clause 28 and the hatred brought by Aids, John Smith (rip) was a close friend.

My union colleague was stabbed on his doorstep by Wombat18, his wife had just died, he had young kids.

I was involved with the trades unions during the N.I. peace process. Lots more. I've done a shed load for The Movement. It's in poorer shape now than years ago.

So all these keyboard warriors bleating about purity can do one. VAWG isn't limited to TR types FFS. Go back and look at what happened in the likes of the SWP ( big cover up) the CPGBml ( big cover up). So all these keyboard warriors bleating about Left purity can do one. They would struggle to organise a raffle. I can tell by the way they talk on here.

Obsessively hounding and stalking other women online is all they are good at.

What was John Smith like IRL? Was he as decent a person as I imagine him to be?

Luckily no one really believes it.

You don't speak for me.

It is hugely difficult to discuss ANY feminist issue on here without GCs bringing their opinion on trans women into it. And it is just that

As other have said that's the pont of the sex and I gender board.

The vitally important issues you mentioned in your post have now been hived off the to chat board

SinnerBoy · 07/06/2024 21:43

You open up the back of their head and spin the dials until both arrows are pointing down and - Hey Presto!

RufusthefIoraImissingreindeer · 07/06/2024 21:44

No body believes that trans women are adult human females

They might believe that transwomen deserve to be called women or that they have an inner feeling of womenhood but no one believes they are adult females

Great Post Lark. John Smith RIP seemed like such a principled politician who would have been a fine PM and was a great loss to the Labour Party. I remember standing outside Debenhams on Saturdays gathering signatures for a petition calling for an end to apartheid. Our RE teacher recruited us girls to help her! We also did the same calling for nuclear disarmament. Felt like we were changing the world!

You're welcome to post here. But you'll find a lot of us think that it's a bit odd to declare that you're a feminist if you think that any man who says he's a woman literally becomes a woman.

I find it a bit odd to think anyone who marches in support of Tommy Robinson is a feminist but each to their own

You do know this forum was especially hived at the request of by those who didn't want to have to read about the trans issue? This board has long been the place to come if you want to discuss issues around the conflicts inherent in trans ideology and its impact upon women and children.

There now exists 'Feminist chat' for those who want to discuss other issues related to women and women's rights.

Actually as someone who requested it, for me it was to be able to discuss feminism without having to scroll past endless posts about trans issues to find other feminism.
It didn't work, which is a shame but then FWR was pretty much overrun by trans threads by then anyway so meh.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 07/06/2024 22:14

well mnhq ought to stick them back together then, seems silly having two if its not working

although i am assuming you mean that some one might might mention trans ideology in relation to a thread about sexual assaults in schools on the feminist chat thread…in which case i think that’s probably tough, if they are derailing it could be reported

What didn't work? It's hard to understand your post. Are you saying you were one of those who requested this subsection because you didn't want to have to scroll past endless trans threads? So why are you on here then? You have the rest of mumsnet to explore without the trans threads!

RufustheFactualReindeer · 07/06/2024 22:22

There are loads of non trans related threads on chat…there are two ama’s which personally i think should be in the ama bit but looks like no one has reported them

CassieMaddox · 07/06/2024 22:24

I'm on here because I'm GC
I used to really love the other feminist discussion on here and learnt a lot.
When Reddit Gender Critical closed and all the lily madigan shit happened the thread got a lot of threads about trans so other feminism got drowned out and I missed it.
In my head it was a way to keep other feminism up the priority list. But it didn't work (should have listened to rufus)

That's the impression we are given and yes there will have been elements of drunken behaviour and racist chants but there were also NHS and emergency service workers, off duty officers, education staff, civil servants, bankers, bus drivers, retail workers. And I believe there was only a handful of arrests made so hardly a crowd of violence seeking thugs. I would post a link to an interview of someone who was there but I know i would be accused of supporting TR and I don't!

You know, what this really reminds me of is when Michael Moore was one of the only people on the left who predicted Trump's win, and tried to warn people on the left to pay attention.

He talked about how many normal, non-racist people in Flint he was speaking to her were planning to vote for Trump. How, unlike Hilary, he came and spoke to people in front of the factories, and told them that if the corporations tried to move them to Mexico, he'd slap tariffs on the cars when they tried to sell them in the US.

He knew this because he listened to the people and to what Trump was saying to them, and he understood them as people.

I'm kinda over it.
I don't know where to go to get old style feminism but can't hark back to the past and it's just a symptom of division and the Internet writ large.
I wish women could support each other more and feminism hadn't become so right/left politicised.

StaunchMomma · 07/06/2024 22:43

AlisonDonut · 07/06/2024 04:02

I think you missed the point rather.

But it is fine. Because now you don't have to have even listened to them, because we are onto dog whistles. Next it will be smoke signals.

Literally everyone knows what hatred they preach.

If you want to advocate for that, that's your problem.

To be honest I reckon the MRAs are loving it.
Feminists focussed on infighting and attacking each other keeps the focus off misogyny

@TinselAngel Sorry I missed this earlier. He was a thoroughly good man, sharp, but really genuine, cared about people very much, built common ground between people, not a bit of phoney about him. Very big on equal pay and women's rights..The sort of person who would be on a big tour but stop and ask the cleaners their views on things. A man who could talk within the experience of his audience and listened, and took what was said on board.

His funeral was overwhelming, around a thousand or more there, all sorts of people. Some months later I was talking to a firefighter from Glasgow area who told me how he had wept so much when John died, and that he had actually made his own way to Iona some time after the funeral, to pay a private respect by the grave. Just him, on his own. Powerful story to listen to.

Michael Foot was another good man in the same vein.

How do people change sex?

🙄
Can you seriously not see that there is a difference between sex and gender, and for some people sex is more important than gender and for others it is vice versa?

It's not actually a battle with winners and losers unless you make it like that.

TRAs made it a battle that women were losing, but that doesn't now make it OK to turn it into a battle trans people are losing.

For me I want a world where both those perspectives are valid.

A woman is an adult human female. It's a word describing the sex of a person. If you think a so-called "transwoman" (ie a man) is a woman, you must think he's changed sex.
