Tommy Robinson and Let Women Speak

I've only read about this on Twitter so there's a chance this is being taken out of context, but it looks like Let Women Speak were part of Tommy Robinson's rally in London this past weekend:

This doesn't sit right with me at all. I've been to LWS events and thought I knew what they were about. I've argued against the guilt-by-association tactics that some activists use against LWS when male intruders have turned up to the events, like the neo-Nazis in Melbourne.

But here we see the opposite, LWS deliberately attending far-right fascist marches. This seems inexcusable to me.

It was LWS stewards handing out LWS leaflets at a rally of football hooligans led by a far-right thug, this reflects very badly on LWS.

Why make excuses?

The English Defence League's claims to be a non-racist grouping suffered a further blow at the weekend with the revelation that the leader of the EDL, Tommy Robinson, is a former British National Party member jailed for a year for assaulting an off-dut...

The documentary is available on line for free or certainly was when I saw it. Perhaps watch it before jumping to conclusions?

I have no interest in anything that man has to ssay. Appearing reasonable is how they start people down their nasty racist slippery slope. No thanks. The real world is not The Matrix, I don't need his views on life.

Now you are just purity spiralling 😂

"LWS Stewards" - who were they then, and how did you identify them as "LWS stewards"?

fedupandstuck · 04/06/2024 15:03

Also, if Hope not Hate had been there (maybe they were??) handing out leaflets, would that mean that their chief exec Nick Lowles is best mates with Tommy Robinson?

On what planet would Hope not Hate be handing out leaflets on an aligned topic that would appeal to Tommy Robinson fans? That's kind of the point!

Maddy70 · 04/06/2024 15:08

He's an utter misogynistic and he's looking to valid himself with women. A total grifter

Absolute grifter. That bit doesn't get highlighted enough. He's found a way to monetise being a racist, thug.

CassieMaddox · 04/06/2024 15:21

😱😱
I used to like one of them! Omg

fedupandstuck · 04/06/2024 15:31

An "aligned topic"?? In whose opinion? Safeguarding is everyone's issue, surely.

For the total avoidance of doubt, I intensely dislike TR and everything he has ever done and stands for. He is racist, a misogynist, a nasty inadequate man. I am also not a "stan" or fan or a particular supporter of KJK. I don't agree with all of her publicity decisions and sometimes feel that they aren't helpful or as productive as she obviously thinks.

I wouldn't want TR to be encouraged to ever attend LWD events, or suggest that he would be particularly welcome there.

But it is so stupid to do this simplistic nonsense about KJK is a TR supporter, or whichever nasty man is the current popular enemy, because of guilt by second or third hand association.

PeppercornMill · 04/06/2024 15:33

I'm confused as a TRA a Trans Rights Activist or a Tommy Robinson Activist?

Hatfullofwillow · 04/06/2024 15:33

Ofcourseshecan · 04/06/2024 13:44

Let’s listen to what people actually say instead of what people say about them? Good idea.

Good idea. Looks like he's using the threat of violence against women to stir up racial hatred to me. He's very concerned about "the rape of 'our' women" by the "other though". Nothing concerning there.

In June 2010 Lennon’s close friend and ally Richard Price was convicted of making four indecent images of children, and possessing cocaine and crack cocaine.[i] The vile images were found on his computer by police after he was arrested for disturbances at an EDL demonstration.
Far from condemning Price’s crimes, the EDL launched a campaign for his release. Lennon himself wholeheartedly supported Price, claiming he had been “stitched up"

AlisonDonut · 04/06/2024 15:39

Presumably there is a reason that two lesbians, one of which is black, would attend this whatever it is.

The event seemingly was about two tier policing. So to attend would be to support there not being a two tier policing policy? So I expect their experiences in the two tier policing of LWS would cause them to be interested in this topic.

I cannot believe that AJA and DJ would be keen on promoting TR himself. That seems utterly insane.

Fair points, but It's also stupid to ignore the presence of the far right and its role in funding and supporting a host of organisations & activists.

"My enemies enemy is my friend" or "lie with dogs and catch fleas"?

PeppercornMill · 04/06/2024 16:08

Why are trans activists obsessed with KJK? They seem to suffer from Kelly Derangement Syndrome.

It again is this simplistic thinking that one side is good, one side is bad, and that KJK is somehow representative of everyone. I saw some Communist literature that also cast doubt on the trans issue, I expect them to be called far-right.

Apparently everything is black and white, except the question "what is a woman?".

Why are you assuming anyone is a trans activists?

Did you look at the photos?

On the other thread (KJK/Trump) posters were claiming KJK can't help who buys her leaflets. True. What she can do however is tell her friends not to hand those leaflets out at TR marches.

"2 tier policing" is a polite fiction for what that march was about. I completely agree with the linked twitter poster. Feminists need to be distancing themselves from Tommy Robinson. It's not going to help us.

The leaflets are emotive and right up TR supporters street with their "end of the rainbow" type talk.

I can't see any topic that hope not hate could produce that would appeal to TR supporters in the same way so it was a ridiculous comparison is what I meant.

Datun · 04/06/2024 17:28

Omg, no she can't!

What on earth do you think is going happen to somebody you don't like if they read an LWS leaflet?

Or, for that matter, what the hell do you think is going to happen to all those women she gives a microphone to, if somebody you don't like reads about them speaking?

How about a leaflet entitled..

"How to shut up annoying women who dont do what you tell them".

Plays well with both the hooligan demographic and the becardiganed misogynists of HNH.

Datun · 04/06/2024 17:36

The is the 'Over the Rainbow' leaflet. It's about No Outsiders and All Sorts trans ideology being taught to children in schools.

Really? You don't think KJK should phone Lippy on the QT and say "mate, handing out my leaflets at a far right march when I'm running to be an MP is not a good look"

OK then.

Any leaflet that goes on about cults and being "over the rainbow", being handed out in pride week, sadly looks homophobic rather than a serious attempt at raising GC issues. Hence why TR fans love it.
