Tommy Robinson and Let Women Speak

1000 replies

I've only read about this on Twitter so there's a chance this is being taken out of context, but it looks like Let Women Speak were part of Tommy Robinson's rally in London this past weekend:

This doesn't sit right with me at all. I've been to LWS events and thought I knew what they were about. I've argued against the guilt-by-association tactics that some activists use against LWS when male intruders have turned up to the events, like the neo-Nazis in Melbourne.

But here we see the opposite, LWS deliberately attending far-right fascist marches. This seems inexcusable to me.

Any leaflet that goes on about cults and being "over the rainbow", being handed out in pride week, sadly looks homophobic rather than a serious attempt at raising GC issues. Hence why TR fans love it.

Have you read the bloody leaflet? There's not a single thing in it to disagree with.

Datun · 04/06/2024 17:46

CassieMaddox · 04/06/2024 17:39

Really? You don't think KJK should phone Lippy on the QT and say "mate, handing out my leaflets at a far right march when I'm running to be an MP is not a good look"

OK then.

Leaflets were being handed out at Marks & Spencers, John Lewis, H&M, Lily Maynard was there.

Is Lily Maynard a white supremacist, nazi, Hitler saluting, homophobic, racist now too?

Ffs, get a grip. I wouldn't blame Posie for seeing whether or not any of this was bloody defamatory.

CassieMaddox · 04/06/2024 17:49

It's not about the leaflet 🙄although I stand by my point that most people would glance at it and think homophobia.

Its about an associate of KJKs handing her leaflets out at a far right march. The optics are terrible. And your ostriching is something else.

Was Lily at the TR march?

"Is your child being groomed into the cult at school?"

This is incendiary language. Handing it out at a far-right hooligan rally is just inviting trouble.

They've gone from being "Let Women Speak" to "Get Violent Men Raging". I've been to LWS events and very much appreciated them but this is something totally different.

Maybe read what I wrote and argue against that rather than a lazy strawman?

MalagaNights · 04/06/2024 17:51

Do you disapprove of the message of the leaflet @CassieMaddox ?

What about the leaflet do you disagree with? @CassieMaddox

What is homophobic?

Do you disapprove of the leaflet?
Or just that it was handed out at a TR march?
Or that it's shared during pride month?

These threads are such moving targets of discussions.
It's weird.
Except it's not.

No worries don't go to another lws event.
Your choice.

Many people agree with the leaflet language and will continue to attend lws events.

All fine.

TinselAngel · 04/06/2024 17:54

How are we supposed to change people's minds if we aren't allowed to give them leaflets unless they already agree with us?

PeppercornMill · 04/06/2024 17:55

If I was a TRA I would be buying those leaflets hand them out at some event for football hooligans, conspiracy nutters etc and then come on MN and say "I'm as GC as they come, but I really don't like that KJK is associating with this group of people".

Rainbows are a sign of gay acceptance. LGBTQ is well accepted as an umbrella term for gay people. Pride month to most people is about gay acceptance.

Therefore most of the general public the branding of that leaflet (rainbow colors and "over the rainbow") makes it appear to be aimed at gay people.

"Is your child being groomed by the cult?" In big letters makes it look like "the cult" is gay people.

This is blatant homophobia in my opinion. Just gross.

You must've missed the numerous threads on here from lesbians saying that the Rainbow excludes them, pride month excludes them, LGBT excludes them.

Give them some leaflets that don't look like they are about gay people grooming children? Don't see far right marches as the ideal place to "spread the message"?
Yuck.

I'm talking about the general public datun. Most people don't go on MN and wouldn't have a clue about the finer points of the debate.

lol.

Insisting on not reading the leaflet, and then commenting on it saying it's homophobic, is the walking definition of bigotry.

Okey.
I disagree.

But it's clear now you don't disgree with them being at TR march, you disgaree with the message.

So you are on a thread complaiing that leaflets you don't like were given to people you don't like by people you disagree with.

Basically you are dveoting a lot of time and effort to being outratde that people disagree with you and voice their oinions in ways you don't like.

Except it's not just people. It's KJK over and over again.
why so focused on her?
There must be 1000s of people you disagree with?

Ostrich again.
Do you want to engage with my point about the branding and language or do you just want to pretend KJK and her fans fart rainbows? Because if the latter I'm going to ignore it.

I can agree with more than one aspect malaga! Both are bad.

I was just kind of overlooking the rainbow stuff for the broader point, but giving them out at a TR march is kind of reverse forced teaming and I can not over look that. It is gross.

Have they handed them out at other marches? Say the 'Ceasefire Now' ones?
