Tommy Robinson and Let Women Speak

I've only read about this on Twitter so there's a chance this is being taken out of context, but it looks like Let Women Speak were part of Tommy Robinson's rally in London this past weekend:

This doesn't sit right with me at all. I've been to LWS events and thought I knew what they were about. I've argued against the guilt-by-association tactics that some activists use against LWS when male intruders have turned up to the events, like the neo-Nazis in Melbourne.

But here we see the opposite, LWS deliberately attending far-right fascist marches. This seems inexcusable to me.

I'm sure many TR fans do have common ground with GC feminists on Transing kids in schools.

Never denied that.

It doesn't mean they're wrong.
Or that leaflets they might agree with shouldn't be handed out.
Or if they are it's all GC women's issue.

Hatfullofwillow · 04/06/2024 18:56

Fair point. I should have been clearer, anti-trans and pro single sex spaces.

Gender critical is not "anti trans", gender critical is anti gender for everybody! That's kind of our thing :)

PeppercornMill · 04/06/2024 19:38

Don't know why all neo-Nazis would be GC. Many of the pioneering sex change surgeons were the top doctors within the Nazi regime and advised the SS.

AlisonDonut · 04/06/2024 19:42

I'd be interested in the Vatican and their invention of the term 'trans ideology', not being a Catholic ive not been in step with their campaigning on this.

Can we have a link to this please?

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. I was referring to the homophobes & neo-nazis. Who are opposed to "gender ideology", rather than being gender critical.

I can't see where it says that the Vatican invented the phrase gender ideology in that blog.

LarkLane · 04/06/2024 20:26

No direct link to a Vatican statement in that blog.
Just a load of tedious waffle and conjecture.
Unsurprisingly.

LarkLane · 04/06/2024 20:31

Waiting for the claim that the Pope was giving out LWS leaflets alongside Tommy Robinson.
Coming soon to a thread on FWR.

Don't forget Trump, I bet he had something to do with it too.

This woman hates Kellie-Jay Keen with a passion! She's a pal of Lloyd Russell whatever they're called, the recently sacked lunatic bully MP in Brighton.

I haven't bothered to read the tweet. She's behind the Brighton perfect feminists "everyone must hate Posie Parker" webpage.

Bloody awful woman.

It doesn't surprise me that a pal of moyle hates gender critical women in general, and obviously, KJK, in particular

He was helping her protest a COVID fine she got, they had a love in photo shoot in the local paper about it together.

I'm not reading your tweets but I would not be at all surprised if now he's no longer useful to her she's slagging him off.

Awful woman.

She did a whole presentation at FILIA about how no-one should speak to Posie Parker and only the left are allowed to campaign for women's rights because of their oppression or other leftist incoherence.

Hepwo · 04/06/2024 21:00

Yes I know. Your post read to me like you felt "GC" and "anti trans" were synonymous so I wanted to clarify they are very different things. Apologies if you were meaning to emphasise a difference rather than a similarity.

I don't know who first coined the term "gender ideology" and what they meant by it, whether it was the reactionary meaning you are used to or the feminist one that is seen on FWR, but it is undoubtedly true that many feminists use it to mean the belief that society be restructured to accomodate self-identified gender as well as or intead of sex.

I don't think you can assume this means they are conciously or unconsciously influenced by groups who use the same phrase with a different meaning.

For example, I came up with the term "gender ideology" for myself entirely independently of and unaware of this other use, and I'm sure plenty of other women did similar, or took it from the discourse of other feminists. I know it wasn't me unconsciously picking the phrase up because I remember my thought process looking for the right word to follow gender to express my meaning.

I have stopped using it now to avoid being accidentally or deliberately misconstrued, but it serves as a warning not to assume someone using a "trigger phrase" must be aligned with whoever you associate that particular phrase with.

AlisonDonut · 04/06/2024 21:13

I looked at the two links in that, one doesn't exist and the other doesn't mention the word 'ideology'.

So...have you got any primary source links, from the Vatican, that invents the term 'trans ideology'?

BlackForestCake · 04/06/2024 22:02

As far I understand it, the American "Christian" right hates the Vatican, so why would they pick up its terminology, assuming for the sake of argument that the term did originate there?

Deny it all you like but this #overtherainbow campaign is bringing out the homophobes:

https://x.com/EmmaDiamonde/status/1797724718864400710

Nobody likes Sodomy Month

#OverTheRainbow

https://x.com/SalopeDeGateau/status/1793390451455586456

🤢 pedophile lanyard

#OverTheRainbow #YourInclusionIsExclusionary

I don’t like how the hashtag #overtherainbow has been twisted in these two tweets, but since you’ve highlighted them (even promoted them 🤔 ooo I see how these tactics work now) one tweet has had 80 views and 6 likes and the other 17 views and no likes, so I think you can stand down on the moral panic (ha! I’m really getting into the bingo tactic) over the campaign being highjacked.

Twitter seems to bring out the inner dick of a lot of people I wouldn’t choose to spend time with, but hate to tell you that dick like people will act like dicks is nothing new, and SM isn’t going to solve the problem of people having nasty opinions.

I have often heard that the Vatican created the term "trans ideology" but never been able to find any evidence. Can you point me in the right direction?

Homophobes and neo-nazis are not GC. They are very pro gender stereotypes.

Wouldn't they say something more like "genus doctrina"?

NotAllowed · 05/06/2024 00:51

God forbid people hold right wing ideas. Bet no one would bat an eyelid if they were at a communist or socialist rally would they. Why are lefties so unbearably hypocritical and illogical in their judgements.

And completely unaware of their hypocrisy. Preaching to people to be all live and let live and free speech, but only if views match their views. All this talk of right wing thugs but I've seen equal aggression and violence coming from the queer left.

I've seen much more aggression from trans rights activists than ever I have from Tommy Robinson and his crew. The right don't tend to shout rape and death threats at women quietly going into a meeting.

AlisonDonut · 05/06/2024 07:58

I do find it bizarre that two lesbians would go to an event that is headlined by TR. I really do.

So I've been mulling it over.

So, these two have actually spent a fair old portion of their own time and money in keeping people that attend the LWS events, as in the OP, safe from TRA violence. I mean, actual harm.

They could have been right wing from the start, always attending right wing events but never having been recognised. And just biding their time protecting women and girls for shits and giggles. And have Tommy Robinson posters on their bedroom walls.

They could be so sick to death of being harassed, screamed at, endured hours and hours of drums and bad singing and whistles in their ears, and glitter bombs going off on them, and all the violent death and rape threats; and also at being called bigots and nazis from people apparently on their own side, that they thought 'fuck it, if we are called this day in day out by supposed lefties, how do we know that also hasn't happened to all the people at this rally/demo/whatever it was', so went along to see what sorts of people are actually attending this sort of event. They may have even not enjoyed it.

They could have attended to witness a different type of event, and to see how the police and authorities police it, how it is organised, what guidelines were in place, and to just observe and learn for future LWS events.

They could have been there under cover and just been accidentally recognised.

They could have gone to simply give out leaflets to British Citizens about what is going on in their kids' and grandkids' schools.

It could have just been on their doorstep and they wanted to go to an event where they were not screamed at, shouted at and had death threats through megaphones all day.

But I suspect they are just so sick to the back teeth of being told what to do, when to do it, where to do it and who to do it with and are proud to be British and wanted to be able to just fucking say so. And be among other people who also feel that way.

I suspect the OP and others will be able to ask them, as they are both on Twix. I'm sure they will report back if they get an answer.

I still have no idea what the actual event was. I guess that will be lost in the mists of outrage/time.
