Wes Streeting, Labour’s health spokesman, said the report should provide a “watershed moment” for the NHS’s gender identity services.
He said children’s healthcare should always be led by evidence and children’s welfare, “free from culture wars”.

He's such a weasel shit for framing like this. Like he's on some higher fucking plain. I remember when he was part of secret Labour witch-hunt groups who were putting women on lists and having them chucked out of the party for raising these very issues almost a decade ago.

Within the report, we use the term gender incongruence as defined above, and gender related distress to describe the feelings that commonly arise or intensify during puberty and lead to a young person seeking help from the NHS.

The term child is used to refer to pre-pubertal children and young people to refer to under 18s who have entered puberty. The report also refers to adolescents when discussing the stages of brain development, and both adolescents and youth where the study being described uses these terms. Young adults refers to those between the ages of 18 and 30.

gulp, I think I will wait until tomorrow so I have some strong coffee.

Already some familiar names on Twitter/X trying to discredit the report.

Gah, half my cut and paste disappeared outs a nightmare! So have some screenshots to describe the language used throughout the report.

Hannah Barnes on Newsnight this evening was good. She didn't hold back. “Where have large swathes of the media been? And sadly, I include the BBC in that outside of this programme…”

And I'm reposting the Glinner interview with Sarah Smith on Newsnight too. Hannah did great work but this was one of the worst interviews I've ever seen. He deserves to be asked back on the programme. Just watch the section on the Tavistock it's worse than I remembered.

Anyone else feeling a bit teary? Incredible to see this coverage in these cowardly publications now. And incredible to see that the women that sacrificed so mush in exposing this have finally been vindicated.

Rightsraptor · 10/04/2024 00:18

Thanks, Boiled. There is a synopsis in your link which is where I'll leave my reading for tonight: 388pp is a teeny bit much to tackle at midnight.

AIstolemylunch · 10/04/2024 00:20

from the summary:

  • While a considerable amount of research has been published in this field, systematic evidence reviews demonstrated the poor quality of the published studies, meaning there is not a reliable evidence base upon which to make clinical decisions, or for children and their families to make informed choices.

Says it all for me. I hope the transhause by proxy parents and butcher doctors feel deep shame.

I'm hoping by the time I've read it, which won't be tonight as it's not going in, the TRAs will have gone into complete melt down!!

Things aren't going their way so far this year!

AIstolemylunch · 10/04/2024 00:24

I didnt think I would see it in the dark days but the worm has well and truly turned and the vast majority of people are speaking out against the terrible damage done to children because of trans ideology. I don't really care about the adults but I am delighted that the children will be treated better now.

And the rest. just off the top of my head we have had-Jo Phoenix, the WPATH debacle, various Scottish train wrecks and now this (Sail Grover would be the icing on the cake but the Aussies seem even more gender woo than us, so not wildly hopeful). Ive said before, this is the year the wheels on the gender bus come off for good. Not before time, either.

We’re not out of the woods yet, but this feels like a watershed moment. As we’ve known all along, the emperor has no clothes, and now mainstream media are printing it.

This report has got to be the downfall of the mainstream media and corporations defaulting to TWAW. I imagine a lot of PR departments will be shitting themselves tomorrow. It was all very nice as a bandwagon when it was just #bekind and an easy way to get PR brownie points, but going against an independent review that officially finds this attitude harms children is going to be a PR disaster for any organisation foolish enough to attempt to do so (to put it mildly).

No one who isn’t a dyed in the wool online TRA is going to go anywhere near this now. That means that eventually only the true believers will be left, their grip on public discourse and policy a mere memory.

We did this, my fellow women. For years, we’ve refused to sit down and shut up. I am so very proud to be part of the sisterhood.

I wonder if the usual suspects here will have anything to say come the morning?

Boiledbeetle · 10/04/2024 00:47

Some numbers, then I'm off to bed (I'm trying to ignore the AFAB AMAB grrr)

Interesting fact that the collective noun for ferrets is a business. I think the Cass report is going to trigger multiple businesses of ferrets in very rapid reverse.

I am switching between utter relief and blind fury right now. How many children had to be harmed before the TRA hype was challenged by hard facts.
How many people will be claiming they never meant children should be medically transitioning.

Guardian article. Doesn’t use the word trans once.

Interesting that 'gender dysphoria' is used over 'trans'. If someone is trans, then surely questioning that fact is transphobic. If someone is gender dysphoric, it seems sensible to discuss the dysphoria.

It looks like the report is shifting toward a more medicalised view of gender issues than rainbow flag blanket acceptance.
