First item is the Hate bill and JK's tweets - they did invite her on but haven't heard back yet

For women Scotland will be on too.

Thanks, DadJoke, for illustrating the point very helpfully.

We are in this mess because 'gender' has at least semi successfully convinced some parts of the population some of the time that some men should not be called men.

They are wrong. Men are men. Males are men. Transwomen are men.

I'm now imagining a group of us getting together and forming a kick ass close harmony group and blasting out 'MALE!' whenever needed on these threads.

Making lists of people with a protected charateristics who have committed crimes and inferring collective guilt to the entire group is a time-honoured technique used by people who want to stir up hatred against minority groups. Implying they are a danger to women and children is the icing on the cake. In every case, they imply that this time it's different, this time, the statistics they've cobbled together are correct, and those other people who've done the same thing with other protected groups are wrong.

If JKR was using this approach for black people, or gay people, all of you (I hope) would be up in arms against it. But no, this is your pet hate group, so you support it..

I don't agree with the bill as it stands, but it hasn't instilled in me the need to attack a minority group, or shame the entire group by naming criminals and others within that protected group whose behaviour I don't like.

I have no doubt JKR will not be arrested or charged. The bar for prosecution is pretty high, and she is untouchable.

you still don't understand, do you. I wish this were Twitter so i could add the best gif ever.

It isn't only about safety. It is about women's rights (which are human rights) an dignity.

LarkLane · 02/04/2024 12:46

I might have got the journos name wrong who spoke at the beginning of the piece.
Also unsure why he was explaining the law.
Was it John Booth or John Boothman?

Take it away, lads!

Men are men. Men can never be women.

ArabellaScott · 02/04/2024 12:51

Here's some more lovely dancing lads.

Men can have long hair, or wear dresses, or jewellery, or make up. Men can be gay, or bisexual. The can be dancers, or carers, or sensitive, or act any kind of way they want to be.

They can't be women, though.

You know.
In my humble opinion
Morris dancing doesn't quite match up when compared to that fancy Irish footwork.
It's still a bit Dad dancing to me.
Plus, I saw a programme the other night about no Wims allowed in the Menz Morris Groups.

Skyellaskerry · 02/04/2024 13:03

Shelagh Fogarty is discussing this on her LBC show today from 2pm. I think, like Emma, Shelagh is brilliant and am looking forward to hearing what she says and how she approaches it.

There are mixed sex Morris sides.
https://www.beltaneborder.co.uk/ are an all female side .
I prefer the darker, more elemental Morris dancing, not the men in pristine white shirts - that’s Morris with its balls cut off.

And do you think Isla Bryson is a woman @DadJoke , yes or no? If yes, why? If no, why?

Oh look, @DadJoke hasn’t answered. I can’t claim to be surprised.

anonhop · 02/04/2024 13:11

@DadJoke I think the difference between the comparison with race is that race is completely incidental to the argument.

White nationalists have no rational basis for hating black people. It's not a rational belief. Listing black people committing crimes is purely to stir up hatred because they just happen to be black & their race has nothing to do with their crime.

JK's tweet is different. There is a rational basis for wanting to maintain the freedom to identify biological sex (safety of women & girls). The people she identified who were doing bad behaviour didn't just happen to be trans, their trans identity is closely linked to the behaviour she was critical of.

Also, being black is just that. You can't change it, it's just a fact. Being trans is having a mental illness (gender dysphoria) believing that you are something you are not

I think you are deliberately missing the point & ignoring the safety of women & girls to prioritise the feelings of men.

Very interesting. I find it frustrating that all of the comments that "it will probably be fine and not many people won't be prosecuted" takes no account of the chilling effect on speech.

“not many people WON’T be prosecuted?!

So you foresee mass prosecutions? Really?

It's a real life Hand Maids Tale taking place in Scotland.

Radio 4 World at One are now discussing J.K.Rowling.

Thank Christ for that!

I would hate to be invited to frolic with a bloke with bells on his knees.

MarieDeGournay · 02/04/2024 13:30

DadJoke... WTF. We could have an entire team of scientists in from CERN to say yep, that's black, definitely absolutely 100% all wavelengths in the visible spectrum are absorbed there, and DadJoke still say no it's white.

I know it's hard not to take the bait, but when DadJoke posts, couldn't we just go 'Hmmm.... more tea, viper?' and move on? It's not like anything we say actually matters..

ps Hats off and grá mo chroí to the dancing IrishmenSmile

So are you saying that everyone on the ‘list’ has committed a crime? Because JKR wasn’t saying - or even implying that. The lowest common denominator of that ‘it’s’ is that they are all male who claim to be female. BTW, men are NOT a minority group.

WhistPie · 02/04/2024 13:40

Yet another thread about something (and a radio programme) that sounded interesting from its title gets derailed into yet another fucking dadjoke thread. Well done all of you.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 02/04/2024 13:42

You are simply proving my point. She is saying we shouldn't let "people like this" into our spaces. Does she mean "people like this" or all transgender people?

No. She's saying that if you let into women-only spaces any man who says he's a woman, then that will include people like the ones she listed. And she's right.

wonderstuff · 02/04/2024 10:17

I think the reason sex isn’t there is where would you start? Misogyny is acceptable across huge swathes of society it would be absolutely impossible to police.

Yes, misogyny is generally considered acceptable in the UK to the extent that it would be difficult to police. I wish they'd just get on with it and make it illegal. :(
