First item is the Hate bill and JK's tweets - they did invite her on but haven't heard back yet

For women Scotland will be on too.

I assume she did it as a reductio ad absurdum of the positions she is taking issue with , @DadJoke . She has said in the past that she has transpeople as friends and has nothing against trans people. Why would she say this if she was also wanting to covertly express the fact that they were all bad people?

teawamutu · 02/04/2024 12:12

DadJoke · 02/04/2024 12:08

It's not though, is is? She didn't say "I think trans women are men - arrest me." She listed people she doesn't like with the protected characteristic. Why do you think she did that? If she opposed the hate crime bill and listed black people who committed crimes, what would you infer?

Given that you've managed to read the list, operate a computer and type out innumerable responses, I don't believe that you can't understand the difference between 'racism is fine because some black people do bad things' and 'compelling women to pretend that men are women is dangerous, here are some real life examples of the consequences'.

I therefore assume that this is either an Upton Sinclair situation, or you really believe we're not as smart as you and can be taken in. In either case I'm embarrassed for you.

Eh up.

@DadJoke is at it again.

I'm quite impressed that @DadJoke turns up, reads some perfectly sensible threads saying stuff like 'people with men's bodies shouldn't be allowed to compete in women's sports' and people with men's bodies shouldn't be allowed in women's rape crisis centres and still retains the confidence to accuse everyone of transphobia and being selective in their arguments.

She listed people who are male and access women's single sex spaces.

She did this to show why letting male people access women's single sex spaces is harmful to women.

HTH.

Yep.

Male.

MALE.

MALE.

ResisterRex · 02/04/2024 12:14

I'm always torn as while these threads end up like a kind of Bechdel failure when we end up relying to the one poster, at the same time when you can see what's going on and the selective understanding, it's great for lurkers

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 02/04/2024 12:15

DadJoke · 02/04/2024 12:11

You've conflated "gender critical people" with women. Women are an oppressed group. Gender critical people are not. Women are not oppressed by transgender people.

Obviously I am not conflating gender critical people with women, because we don't have dedicated spaces/services/sports for gender critical people. We have these things for women.

Female people as a group are oppressed by male people as a group. Not all individuals in the group "female people" are oppressed by male people, and not all individuals in the group "male people" oppress female people, but in society as a whole it is a clear enough trend to justify the existence of single sex spaces.

Trans women are members of the "male people" group. The fact that some of them find this upsetting does not make it any less true.

Icanttellyouanything · 02/04/2024 12:18

DadJoke · 02/04/2024 11:35

She didn't just say "trans women are men."

She created a list of trans women who had either committed crimes or indulged in behaviour she didn't like. Of course, she didn't actually come out and say what she was implying about the entire group. That would be too on the nose even for her. She was suggesting that these trans women should not be protected - should be excepted from hate crime legislation - and by inference, that no transgender people should. You can do exactly the same thing with disabled people, gay people and black people.

That's what "It never happens threads" are for and it's why white nationalists publish lists of black criminals. Why do you think white nationalists do this?

Giulia Valentino, the Gaelic footballer was on her list. People take issue with trans sports people because there is often a biological advantage for males. People such as swimmer Lia Thomas because identifying as trans took him from being a male swimmer with zero chance of success to winning a women's competition. His maleness is why he won. That's not fair to biological women. Would it be wrong to say black or lesbian women shouldn't be allowed to swim in the women's team? Of course it would. That's discrimination. Disabled people have competitions that recognise their specific needs and categorise people according to their abilities. Lia has since had the opportunity to swim in an open category but chose not to. There's a difference between discrimination and fairness.

They say they are working on a misogyny hill, so that can’t be it

I genuinely thought this wasn’t a typo at first. Like the Scottish government were planning on making some kind of anti-misogyny hill with signs on in lieu of actual legislation. It wouldn’t surprise me.

ArabellaScott · 02/04/2024 12:23

Making lists of people with a protected charateristics who have committed crimes and inferring collective guilt to the entire group is a time-honoured technique used by people who want to stir up hatred against minority groups. Implying they are a danger to women and children is the icing on the cake. In every case, they imply that this time it's different, this time, the statistics they've cobbled together are correct, and those other people who've done the same thing with other protected groups are wrong.

If JKR was using this approach for black people, or gay people, all of you (I hope) would be up in arms against it. But no, this is your pet hate group, so you support it..

I don't agree with the bill as it stands, but it hasn't instilled in me the need to attack a minority group, or shame the entire group by naming criminals and others within that protected group whose behaviour I don't like.

I have no doubt JKR will not be arrested or charged. The bar for prosecution is pretty high, and she is untouchable.

She's using it for men.

Men commit nearly all crime.

Men are not a minority group.

"These people" - do you mean literally, "these people" or all trans women? The answer to this will confirm or deny the validity of my position.

All transwomen are men. All men should stay out of women-only spaces. Is that clear enough?

DadJoke · 02/04/2024 12:26

You are simply proving my point. She is saying we shouldn't let "people like this" into our spaces. Does she mean "people like this" or all transgender people? She means the latter, but is implying they are like the former. Some people with protected characteristics are bad people. In the 80s, anti-gay propaganda listed them and suggested children weren't sage around "all the gays" not just the bad ones.

Far right parties in the UK post crimes committed by asylum seekers, then tar all asylum seekers with the same brush. This technique is as old a bigotry itself.

LarkLane · 02/04/2024 12:26

How othering of people who are black, to compare them to a group of, mostly, white men who choose to be trans women.

If I were in Scotland I'd consider that was reportable.

No, of course she doesn't mean all transgender people. Some transgender people are female. She means all male people, transgender or otherwise.

She means male people.

Do you understand that letting male people who say they identify as female into female only spaces means that we cannot keep Isla Bryson and Katie Dolatowski out of them?

Yes or no.

maltravers · 02/04/2024 12:35

And do you think Isla Bryson is a woman @DadJoke , yes or no? If yes, why? If no, why?

borntobequiet · 02/04/2024 12:35

Of course, she didn't actually come out and say what she was implying about the entire group.

So what was she implying? I mean, what she said was that they were all men, which is true.

Waitwhat23 · 02/04/2024 12:35

I'm now imagining a group of us getting together and forming a kick ass close harmony group and blasting out 'MALE!' whenever needed on these threads.
