The play, which will be performed on stage in New York next month and is being touted for the Fringe this summer, sees the author's 'surrogate children – Daniel, Rupert and Emma' stage an 'intervention'

Civil Disobedience, which has its roots in the Edinburgh Fringe and was launched by Barry and Josef Church-Woods in May 2016, described it as a "vital think-piece on Joanne, exploring just what could motivate a person with such privilege to take such a divisive stance on issues that affect her fans".

It has been written by Joshua Kaplan, a "queer screenwriter and playwright", and will be performed at The Actors Studio in New York City on Thursday, February 8.

A press release advertising the show claims: "Please note: TERF C**T is not a kill piece. It provides space for reflection and ultimately offers the audience time to explore some of the more contentious aspects of JK's life."

The synopsis for the show continues: "Joanne led a blessed life – for a woman. Billionaire. Literary phenomenon. Natural ginger. And most importantly, beloved. Completely beloved. Until she blew it all to hell.

"From book deals to divorces, family dysfunction to broken friendships, TERF C**T goes beyond the headlines to explore the woman that captivated a world with her books only to unravel a legacy with her tweets."

I’ll give that a miss.

StephanieSuperpowers · 25/01/2024 20:14

That sounds absolutely crappy, the work of a teenager who fancies themselves hilarious.

RebelliousCow · 25/01/2024 20:14

Jeez! Such histrionics......and about what, exactly?

SeatonCarew · 25/01/2024 20:15

Some people's vileness knows no bounds, particularly when clothed in the faux ingenue colours of #bekind.

WickedSerious · 25/01/2024 20:16

I hope it keeps fine for the silly buggers.

Blueemeraldagain · 25/01/2024 20:18

The fact that a reference to her physical appearance comes in their top three things a “blessed” woman has speaks volumes.

lifeinthelastlane · 25/01/2024 20:18

Maybe it's actually a "reverse"? Given they won't be able to find anything actually transphobic that's she meant to have said.

lifeinthelastlane · 25/01/2024 20:19

She still is all those things though - has her fortune plummeted? Are people not buying Strike novels? Is she not loved by thousands?

Blueemeraldagain · 25/01/2024 20:19

Sorry, top four along with being liked….

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/01/2024 20:23

Joanne led a blessed life – for a woman. Billionaire. Literary phenomenon. Natural ginger. And most importantly, beloved.

Did they miss a little bit about how she had an utterly shit life before she worked her way out of it?

Also, 'Joanne'? First name terms feels scummy in some way.

And since I just spent a fortune on the bloody game for DD, I suspect she's still beloved.

JanesLittleGirl · 25/01/2024 20:23

I think I'll wait for the reviews.

FetchezLaVache · 25/01/2024 20:24

Oh the fucking patronage! I can smell it from here.

Has anyone seen my blood-pressure monitor?

IwantToRetire · 25/01/2024 20:25

a person with such privilege to take such a divisive stance on issues that affect her fans

Talk about male privilege, only a w~~ker could write something so redolent of self importance.

One, she isn't "privileged" she earnt everything she has despite extreme adversity.

And why are fans more important than her.

Talk about expecting women to be mere slaves and pleasers to spoilt incels who cant even tie their own shoelaces.

And unfortunately I doubt anyone in New York will tell the venue they shouldn't host such a pile of verbal male violence.

And if the fringe allows it I hope they get sued for hate speech.

Oh silly me, of course its is only women who are NOT protected under hate speech laws.

Let them at it. Day by day hung by their own petards, completely oblivious to the backlash they attract.

PermanentTemporary · 25/01/2024 20:26

Or 'Why my book Fuck That Fucking Woman to Fuck is a considered reflection on subtle issues of politics crafted with a view to reducing societal division'

I suppose it's just attention-seeking by some child. In my case it's worked up to a point.

Precipice · 25/01/2024 20:26

what could motivate a person with such privilege to take such a divisive stance on issues that affect her fans" What could motivate a person who was very successful in their field to express a political view? How peculiar. How can we wrap our heads around that one?

FetchezLaVache · 25/01/2024 20:30

When, inevitably, the tide turns (as I believe it is already doing) and people realise that JKR was on the right side of history after all, this nasty set of shites are going to be falling over themselves to reverse-ferret their way out of their anti-women's rights stance.

FWIW I bet I'm not the only person who was indifferent to JKR until she so bravely put her head above the parapet on this issue.

AmeliaEarhart · 25/01/2024 20:30

“Joanne led a blessed life” ??? Errr, didn’t she escape an abusive relationship then lived in poverty as a single parent while she wrote the first book?

Yes, life validated her womanhood relentlessly.

IwantToRetire · 25/01/2024 20:32

Interestingly this startlingly (un)original play is not listed as being at the Actors Studio in New York.

But wonder if it might be worth letting them know that to do so makes them look like they are chasing bums on seats by the usual lets torture a woman for our pleasure reactionary scenario.

I saw reverse-ferret and thought what a brilliant turn of phrase. Then I saw the MN NN. Of course it was. Touché @FetchezLaVache

Theinnocenteyeballsinthesky · 25/01/2024 20:34

God when will these tedious attention seeking wankers grow up?

FetchezLaVache · 25/01/2024 20:35

@MrsTerryPratchett 😘

InvisibleBuffy · 25/01/2024 20:35

Ah, yes. We all know the best way to show off your feminist credentials is to stage an entire show calling a woman a cunt. What a lovely expression of inclusivity and tolerance. 🙄
These people have no self awareness.

SeatonCarew · 25/01/2024 20:15

Some people's vileness knows no bounds, particularly when clothed in the faux ingenue colours of #bekind.

I initially read this as 'illness' instead of 'vileness'. On reflection, both work.

Imagine writing entire plays because someone who writes books you like won't play along with your fiction and support your oppression of women. There isn't really much more of a backhanded compliment to JK.
