Edinburgh Arts Group to launch play about JKR called TERF C**T – where Daniel, Rupert and Emma stage an 'intervention'

The play, which will be performed on stage in New York next month and is being touted for the Fringe this summer, sees the author's 'surrogate children – Daniel, Rupert and Emma' stage an 'intervention'

Civil Disobedience, which has its roots in the Edinburgh Fringe and was launched by Barry and Josef Church-Woods in May 2016, described it as a "vital think-piece on Joanne, exploring just what could motivate a person with such privilege to take such a divisive stance on issues that affect her fans".

It has been written by Joshua Kaplan, a "queer screenwriter and playwright", and will be performed at The Actors Studio in New York City on Thursday, February 8.

A press release advertising the show claims: "Please note: TERF C**T is not a kill piece. It provides space for reflection and ultimately offers the audience time to explore some of the more contentious aspects of JK's life."

The synopsis for the show continues: "Joanne led a blessed life – for a woman. Billionaire. Literary phenomenon. Natural ginger. And most importantly, beloved. Completely beloved. Until she blew it all to hell.

"From book deals to divorces, family dysfunction to broken friendships, TERF C**T goes beyond the headlines to explore the woman that captivated a world with her books only to unravel a legacy with her tweets."

The way these people call her 'Joanne' is so patronising and condescending - I genuinely don’t think they would do it with a male author.

I hate it when men do the thing of using my first name in that irritating manner of talking down to me or showing they don’t respect me; I admire JKR’s ability to not snap and lose her temper at the provocation.

In public yes her dignity is a huge inspiration. In private I bet an articulate woman of her imagination has a stupendous line in swearing.

Agreed. And has she ever referred to Radcliffe, Watson and Grint as her “surrogate children”? Or is that another projection of the playwright? Because as far as know JKR’s actual, biological children have never spoken out in public about her views or denounced her for being an evil terfy witch.

ButteryBase · 26/01/2024 15:28

The best response would be a counter play - about how JKR was brave enough to fight for women and girls against sexist nonsense. Only guess what there would be no venue. Why? Which is the side which is the real victim here?

How about a gender-flipped production of The Crucible, with the John Joanne Proctor character played by an actress in a red-haired wig? I’d watch that…

Well you know, she's a woman so of course she must feel terribly maternal towards the child actors in the films of her books!

And it evidences yet again the core toddler feeling so often seen in this ideology of 'waaaaah mummy do what I say!'

Its the metaphoric version of kicking vigorously in the shins while demanding to be picked up.

Wouldn’t it be fun to do a play of the playwright who wrote this in the style he has written. Unfortunately that means I would have to research it.

I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t.

pronounsbundlebundle · 26/01/2024 16:08

It's defamatory and only an incel could warp reality to the extent of writing 'Joanne has led a blessed life'. I'd feel shame for getting basic facts so wrong and then publishing my rubbish in the world without the slightest fact checking but this dude clearly doesn't. I hope JKR sets the lawyers on to them.

ZeldaFighter · 26/01/2024 16:21

Isn't it offensive on its own to use the C word though? Outraging public decency etc

I can't imagine being allowed to call Tom Cruise or King Charles or Rishi Sunak or Tom Holland a c in the title and get away with it? Is it just women you're allowed to call cs 😞

NoBinturongsHereMate · 26/01/2024 16:28

I believe it's seen as a considerably more offensive word in the US.

Yes. Acceptable misogyny. A sexual slur term and no, I can't see this being so casually ok applied to a man.

But this is a movement that regards women as subhuman service units.

So jkr, working class ginger woman, is privileged but a yale graduate with very rich parents isn't? 🤔

‘Privelage innit, coz she’s rolling in dough now, and the films had right proper film stars in them what she ackshully hung out with.

And ginger, yeh.’

I feel this is the intellectual level of this charming young man’s absolutely charming work.
Can’t wait to miss it!

IwantToRetire · 26/01/2024 17:25

I'd still be interested to know why the theatre in New York wants to be associated with such a blatantly misogynistic "play".

Or is it just meant to be "ironic" having a play calling a living woman a word that is in its use deeply steeped in hatred of women, because of course the worse thing in the world is to be part of the female anatomy. (Shame so many women continue to us it, validating a male view of the world, that anything female is of course worse than anything male.)

And I was annoyed my city's fringe festival's marketing is entirely drag queens. This is markedly lamer. Also, how are drag queens or JKR fringe? Both seem petty ubiquitous and well known. Surely there's some avant-garde art left?

DeeLusional · 26/01/2024 17:57

I wonder what kind of intervention those three loathsome backstabbers will be carrying out in this masterpiece, this I must see.

Delphinium20 · 26/01/2024 17:57

And if the fringe allows it I hope they get sued for hate speech.

There's no legal concept of hate speech in the US. which I agree with wholeheartedly because it ends up protecting women who won't go to jail for saying TWANW

OvaHere · 26/01/2024 18:13

You just know that this TRA COCK used to write Harry Potter fan fiction on the internet when he was about 14. 😂

nepeta · 26/01/2024 18:13

She is called 'Joanne' because talking down to women seems still what goes on in social media, compared to the way men are addressed. If you are so inclined, you may start noticing that even the men wokebeards detest get to keep their last names when attacked, but it is simply assumed that all women can be addressed by their first names.

The funny thing about the question Joshua poses in his/their/her play is that it has an easy answer which we all know (i.e. the reason why JK Rowling wrote what she did). But if you are blind to the idea that women are something more than support animals for the more deserving interest groups then you won't be able to find the reasons.

MrGHardy · 26/01/2024 18:35

She lives rent free in their heads.

YouJustDoYou · 26/01/2024 18:38

These people are vile, hypocritical bigots, misogynists and fascists. Can you imagine if anyone did a play using slur words to describe trans people, and how an intervention needed to be staged to force them to "see the light"? JFC, I loathe these people, I truly truly do.

WarriorN · 26/01/2024 19:16

Can't wait for the scathing reviews of this one 😂

Says so much about them, and nothing about JKR…

What could they say?

A woman who overcomes poverty to become a self-made millionaire, is beloved by millions of children, some of whom might never have bothered learning to read, supports women when they desperately need it the most (I've needed a women's shelter in the past), is charitable (I have MS and am heartened to know she helps people like me), and pays her taxes.

It speaks volumes about Kaplan being a bitter little twerp whose only claim to fame will be a pathetic piggy-backing off hers. He's in for a rude awakening.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 26/01/2024 16:28

I believe it's seen as a considerably more offensive word in the US.

The US usage is also seen as very misogynistic, because it is a very strong term of abuse that is almost always directed at a woman.

Obviously the UK usage isn't squeaky clean, because why should it be worse to call a man female genitalia than male genitalia? But we still tend to direct the word at men, so there is an added layer in the US usage.

And the playwright is presumably American?

FrancescaContini · 26/01/2024 22:47

What a nasty, malicious, twisted fuckwit this “queer writer” sounds.
