The play, which will be performed on stage in New York next month and is being touted for the Fringe this summer, sees the author's 'surrogate children – Daniel, Rupert and Emma' stage an 'intervention'

Civil Disobedience, which has its roots in the Edinburgh Fringe and was launched by Barry and Josef Church-Woods in May 2016, described it as a "vital think-piece on Joanne, exploring just what could motivate a person with such privilege to take such a divisive stance on issues that affect her fans".

It has been written by Joshua Kaplan, a "queer screenwriter and playwright", and will be performed at The Actors Studio in New York City on Thursday, February 8.

A press release advertising the show claims: "Please note: TERF C**T is not a kill piece. It provides space for reflection and ultimately offers the audience time to explore some of the more contentious aspects of JK's life."

The synopsis for the show continues: "Joanne led a blessed life – for a woman. Billionaire. Literary phenomenon. Natural ginger. And most importantly, beloved. Completely beloved. Until she blew it all to hell.

"From book deals to divorces, family dysfunction to broken friendships, TERF C**T goes beyond the headlines to explore the woman that captivated a world with her books only to unravel a legacy with her tweets."

Meanwhile, on the subject of privilege, a quick google of the playwright reveals he grew up in a neighbourhood of Long Island which has a median household income of $111k and went to Yale Law School 🙃

<slow hand clap>

What a total peen-arse.

How to make the case for the other side really clearly.

I don't even like Harry Potter (well in Harry Potter terms - I quite enjoyed it but not in the obsessive sense).

However I am blown away by her skill in the Strike novels. Yes they are long and some of the subplots are not strictly necessary but I love it all.
To map out that level of detail and write the complexity in from the beginning is a very rare talent. Being top of your game in any field is not privilege, it's hard work and skill.

I fear where we'd be without her. There are very few people who are un cancellable and she was brave enough to use that voice and speak up while everyone else pretended not to see, but still at significant personal cost.

I can't imagine this will hold a candle to her writing.

Justme56 · 25/01/2024 20:55

I do wonder if JKR gets inspiration for the characters in her books from these creeps. If she does I hope it helps her make an extra few million.

Boomboom22 · 25/01/2024 21:00

Surely if this is reported as it is right now that's hate speech and enough for the police to arrest him?
Women are arrested for stickers / posters / saying far less offensive true things online.

IwantToRetire · 25/01/2024 21:06

Women are arrested for stickers / posters / saying far less offensive true things online.

That's because there is no legislation that says hate speech against women is a crime.

Everyone else is protected, but not women.

I wonder why.

And some women who say they are feminists think we dont need it.

Just for JKR I would vote for women to be included in hate speech.

In the meantime these loathsome deluded men feel enabled to spew their venom.

Personally I think the trans issue is just a platform that legitimises their blatant misogyny.

Can you imagine the uproar if a woman known as a feminist made comments like that about a revered male author.

She would be reviled for being spiteful, jealous, a man hater, an extremist, deranged, .....................

Wow, she's really got deep inside their sad, envious little psyches, hasn't she?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 25/01/2024 21:06

Abusive men demonstrating their desire to promote hatred of women. A bit like a combination of Andrew Tate, Joey Barton & Billy Bragg on stage?
Worth missing I reckon.

This, 10000000%.

songaboutjam · 25/01/2024 21:23

"Stage an intervention" 😂

PriOn1 · 25/01/2024 21:24

’Civil Disobedience […]described it as a "vital think-piece on Joanne, exploring just what could motivate a person with such privilege to take such a divisive stance on issues that affect her fans".’

Hate to tell you this lads, but you’re just not significant. Typical though, that you think a female author should silence herself on something that is obviously incredibly important to her in case she upsets you.

tobee · 25/01/2024 21:53

What have my generation of parents done bringing up such self entitled yet spectacularly immature children who use such overtly violent language?

lordloveadog · 25/01/2024 21:59

I don't think that'll do trans activism any favours.

Just more people noticing that they're abusive and deeply sexist.

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 25/01/2024 22:01

I really like the angle the Scottish Daily Express are taking though.

NicolaSturgeonsMarzipanDildo · 25/01/2024 22:12

They better have good lawyers. Or proof. Nah, I'm going with good lawyers.

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 25/01/2024 22:47

Good lawyers who know what they’re doing with bundles.

RedToothBrush · 25/01/2024 23:07

Why is anyone even giving this the airspace?

There will probably be more journalists reviewing it than actual punters.

Boomboom22 · 25/01/2024 23:12

So jkr, working class ginger woman, is privileged but a yale graduate with very rich parents isn't? 🤔

OwlWeiwei · 25/01/2024 23:17

"Joanne led a blessed life"?
"What could motivate such a divisive stance"?

Have they done no research at all?

She escaped from an abusive partner and lived almost penniless as a single mother on benefits.

Her "stance" isn't about her fans, it's about protecting the needs and space of biological women from entitled biological men who encroach on it and abuse it.

There. No play needed.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 25/01/2024 23:31

a blessed life – for a woman

Essays could be written on those last 3 words. Or a vast sheaf of therapist's case notes.

LarkLane · 25/01/2024 23:57

I look forward to the musical written by Billy Bragg using all three chords on his guitar.

TownGown · 26/01/2024 00:37

I saw a post on Twitter, a Dublin gay bar has a sign up saying "F**k you JK Rowling"

IwantToRetire · 26/01/2024 00:41

Why is anyone even giving this the airspace?

Because the ongoing public bullying of JKR has got to stop. (And anyway whose getting on a plane to fly to New York.)

Unless and until we reach a point that men like this, let alone venues recognise the anti woman crap they think is progressive, we are all in the bog of male hatred of women.

Even I one other person on the internet reads this threads and sees how despicable this is that's a win.

And personally (although I dont know that JKR reads FWR) I want her to know how much we support her against these vile attacks.

Do you think this will stop if we just pretend it isn't happen.

And even if it gets performed in New York (should let Reduxx know) hopefully by the time the Edinburgh festival comes round they wont dream of giving it space.

Yes, it's tempting to think it's just a bunch of attention seeking, privileged wanky teenagers, writing privileged, wanky shit.

Which I should imagine it very much it is, but until they get the public pushback and disapproval they deserve, they're just going to keep going.
