Edinburgh Arts Group to launch play about JKR called TERF C**T – where Daniel, Rupert and Emma stage an 'intervention'

The play, which will be performed on stage in New York next month and is being touted for the Fringe this summer, sees the author's 'surrogate children – Daniel, Rupert and Emma' stage an 'intervention'

Civil Disobedience, which has its roots in the Edinburgh Fringe and was launched by Barry and Josef Church-Woods in May 2016, described it as a "vital think-piece on Joanne, exploring just what could motivate a person with such privilege to take such a divisive stance on issues that affect her fans".

It has been written by Joshua Kaplan, a "queer screenwriter and playwright", and will be performed at The Actors Studio in New York City on Thursday, February 8.

A press release advertising the show claims: "Please note: TERF C**T is not a kill piece. It provides space for reflection and ultimately offers the audience time to explore some of the more contentious aspects of JK's life."

The synopsis for the show continues: "Joanne led a blessed life – for a woman. Billionaire. Literary phenomenon. Natural ginger. And most importantly, beloved. Completely beloved. Until she blew it all to hell.

"From book deals to divorces, family dysfunction to broken friendships, TERF C**T goes beyond the headlines to explore the woman that captivated a world with her books only to unravel a legacy with her tweets."

I think TRA Jen Ives accused "terfs" of doing this at Ives' less than hilarious Edinburgh show once, which turned out to be mostly made up.

Ugh sullying Stockbridge 😢

Everyone go in a red wig and JKR mask.

And I saw this week that the teacher has now been sacked.

Have you got the link for that? I’d be interested to read why.

Joanne led a blessed life – for a woman. Billionaire. Literary phenomenon. Natural ginger. And most importantly, beloved.

Did they miss a little bit about how she had an utterly shit life before she worked her way out of it?

Also, 'Joanne'? First name terms feels scummy in some way.

And since I just spent a fortune on the bloody game for DD, I suspect she's still beloved.

Absolutely. I don't see JKR in this, I've always seen her as a remarkable woman who somehow worked her way out of trauma, depression and poverty whilst being a single mum.

Two decades ago religious nuts were burning her Harry Potter books. Now neo-religious nuts are conducting a witch hunt on her, for her utterly reasonable and widely held 'beliefs'. How do they not see the similarities?

I'm looking forward to the scene where Dr Cass appears in a puff of smoke and waves her magic report crying "Cinders you shall go to the ball" and the three children turn into white mice and run away.

  1. I wonder how much public subsidy they will be getting.
  2. I wonder whether the big venues really turned them down because they would not be bringing in big audiences.

Edinburgh is now very much controlled by the big venues, who tend to have their cake and eat it regarding box office revenues, in that they demand a big deposit up front and then a take, making it almost possibly for some of the smaller but established and interesting theatre groups to go to, say, try out new material.

Provoking a billionaire who has access to all sorts of lawyers may not be very sensible

'Kaplan is not the first to raise concern about Rowling’s tone. This month Elon Musk, who bought Twitter/X in 2022, urged the author to change tack while, under the heading “JK Rowling is playing with fire”, Debbie Hayton, a trans journalist and supporter of women’s sex-based rights, said Rowling’s recent tweets about a football referee had “brought out the worst” in the author.'

A whole bunch of men dislike women talking.

I'm waiting for wee Elon to tell her she should smile more, because she's so pretty when she smiles.

BlackForestCake · 19/05/2024 13:39

No doubt they will accuse all of Edinburgh of bigotry when nobody goes to see their shitty show. Has it been put on anywhere else yet?

RoyalCorgi · 19/05/2024 13:48

It continues to amaze me that they accuse JKR of being cruel or unkind while totally ignoring the threats of rape, torture and murder that come from the other side. (Not to mention the actual violence in some cases.) What about "Decapitate Terfs" on a placard at a demonstration? Anything to say about that?

I once read a quote, years ago, that said, "you can't go far wrong just disagreeing with everything Norman Lamont says". The idea being that just doing the opposite would be sound economics.

I feel very similarly about Elon Musk. Just say the opposite of what he says; can't go far wrong.

dragonscannotswim · 19/05/2024 15:39

Fuck me, a woman talking about issue that might affect her fans! How very dare she. So she's not allowed to talk about anything that might affect HER?!

IwantToRetire · 19/05/2024 20:20

Thanks for the link - that's shocking and they now have access to his personal accounts because they took his computer.

And apparently they offered no explanation as to why he was being fired.

... the biggest Edinburgh Fringe promoters turned it down ... The show will be staged at St Stephen’s Church in Edinburgh’s New Town.

Is this an actual church or a church that has been turned into a venue>

Either way, not very "christian" to put on a play attacking a living person without being given an equal voice.

But come to think of it, quite in line with christian teaching and practice.

" ... a woman's preaching is like a dog's walking on his hind legs. It is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all. ... "

Need to keep these uppity women in their place.

It’s not a church anymore

CantDealwithChristmas · 20/05/2024 15:51

Honestly just laughing at this. Bet JKR is too, if by some miracle she notices.

A tale as old as time. No talent? Just do something super controversial instead!

I remember watching the vid from a link here, that was some time back, wasn't it? No idea he'd been sacked; disgraceful, but not perhaps surprising these days.
