Edinburgh Arts Group to launch play about JKR called TERF C**T – where Daniel, Rupert and Emma stage an 'intervention'

The play, which will be performed on stage in New York next month and is being touted for the Fringe this summer, sees the author's 'surrogate children – Daniel, Rupert and Emma' stage an 'intervention'

Civil Disobedience, which has its roots in the Edinburgh Fringe and was launched by Barry and Josef Church-Woods in May 2016, described it as a "vital think-piece on Joanne, exploring just what could motivate a person with such privilege to take such a divisive stance on issues that affect her fans".

It has been written by Joshua Kaplan, a "queer screenwriter and playwright", and will be performed at The Actors Studio in New York City on Thursday, February 8.

A press release advertising the show claims: "Please note: TERF C**T is not a kill piece. It provides space for reflection and ultimately offers the audience time to explore some of the more contentious aspects of JK's life."

The synopsis for the show continues: "Joanne led a blessed life – for a woman. Billionaire. Literary phenomenon. Natural ginger. And most importantly, beloved. Completely beloved. Until she blew it all to hell.

"From book deals to divorces, family dysfunction to broken friendships, TERF C**T goes beyond the headlines to explore the woman that captivated a world with her books only to unravel a legacy with her tweets."

I can't remember where I saw it (Twitter probably) but someone suggested getting someone to go along dressed in a sharp suit, and sit near the front taking notes throughout. Cheaper than actually sending the lawyers in, but nearly as much fun.

Especially if someone was to ring his phone just before curtain up so that JKR shows on his phone screen and those sat either side can hear him say "Yes Joanne, it's just about to start, should be any time now!"

Fabricwitch · 29/01/2024 11:57

Also, 'Joanne'? First name terms feels scummy in some way.

Using her feminine first name drives home the point that this is a woman daring to question men.
The same people will use JK Rowling or Jo when talking about how they used to love her or still love her books. But as soon as her feminist views start getting talked about she's Joanne.

This just came up in my recommended on youtube, shows how people just need to think for themselves for 2 minutes to realise the truth:

That's really interesting and I liked the bit at the end, where the kid was asked how he felt in retrospect: "A bit of an idiot." He's probably not, because he's confronted his thinking, realised that he was wrong and why.

More of this, please!

This is an insightful article

It doesn't waste many words on the play.

Really interesting article. I think it comprehensively nails it. They're pissed off with their mum.

"This Terf C*nt show represents the mother lode of Freudian entitlement and regression towards Rowling."

Thanks so much for posting that video - it’s fascinating to watch the student progress through his understanding and analysis of his view of JKR with the teacher’s help. A model example of teaching people to think for themselves.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 29/01/2024 14:04

Hmmm, a bunch of overweight men who hate women, wearing SNAG tights and shit make up, stating their pronouns and barging into the female toilets desperate to lend out tampons. No thanks.

I have a lot of respect for that student. He did have to confront his error, and he didn't back away from admitting it, not easy for anyone.

You’re absolutely right - the student didn’t get defensive or have a 'win at all costs' mindset and it was a breath of fresh air to see him genuinely thinking about the information and reasoning his way through. I thought his teacher did a great job of keeping the discussion along the right lines to allow the student not to feel ‘threatened' by questions and challenges.

It's an angle I'd never considered before but wow does it make sense!

Froodwithatowel · 29/01/2024 16:26

To them I urge: scream all the insults needed, display all your performative pain in its full glory, savour every syllable of your word-salad diatribes. Kick. Pout. Smash things up. Smear the wall with excrement if you need to. Cry it out once and for all.

And then, for the love of God, grow up.

Oh God, yes please . All of that. To all of it.

Agree! This bit particularly:

‘It appears that it has dawned on gender extremists that their treacherous mother figure is never going to give in to their demands, no matter how much they pretend to cry until they vomit. So instead they have constructed a staged reality in which they get to live out the fantasy of forcing her too. It’s hard to say if we’re in comedy or horror territory here.’

It’s both embarrassing for them, and incredibly creepy.

I dare say we can anticipate a bunch of nutters with loudhailers and tambourines dressed like paramilitaries protesting outside the ven.....oh, wait a minute.

ArabellaScott · 19/05/2024 08:43

'Kaplan is not the first to raise concern about Rowling’s tone. This month Elon Musk, who bought Twitter/X in 2022, urged the author to change tack while, under the heading “JK Rowling is playing with fire”, Debbie Hayton, a trans journalist and supporter of women’s sex-based rights, said Rowling’s recent tweets about a football referee had “brought out the worst” in the author.'

A whole bunch of men dislike women talking.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/05/2024 09:53

Oh dear. Never mind.

highame · 19/05/2024 10:29

Can't read all of the thread but surely this play is ripe for a bit of pantomime. If terfs bought all the tickets and then did the boos, whoops and hollers throughout, it'd be fun. Shouting slogans at appropriate moments. This could set the Fringe alight

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/05/2024 10:30

JKR should buy a front row ticket.

Yes, it's a good idea. Also, raucous laughing at any moments supposed to be sad ones.

God I would LOVE that! Let’s see them say this stuff to her face, let’s see how brave they are then

though I’ve no doubt they would instantly accuse her of bullying & intimidation
