Edinburgh Arts Group to launch play about JKR called TERF C**T – where Daniel, Rupert and Emma stage an 'intervention'

The play, which will be performed on stage in New York next month and is being touted for the Fringe this summer, sees the author's 'surrogate children – Daniel, Rupert and Emma' stage an 'intervention'

Civil Disobedience, which has its roots in the Edinburgh Fringe and was launched by Barry and Josef Church-Woods in May 2016, described it as a "vital think-piece on Joanne, exploring just what could motivate a person with such privilege to take such a divisive stance on issues that affect her fans".

It has been written by Joshua Kaplan, a "queer screenwriter and playwright", and will be performed at The Actors Studio in New York City on Thursday, February 8.

A press release advertising the show claims: "Please note: TERF C**T is not a kill piece. It provides space for reflection and ultimately offers the audience time to explore some of the more contentious aspects of JK's life."

The synopsis for the show continues: "Joanne led a blessed life – for a woman. Billionaire. Literary phenomenon. Natural ginger. And most importantly, beloved. Completely beloved. Until she blew it all to hell.

"From book deals to divorces, family dysfunction to broken friendships, TERF C**T goes beyond the headlines to explore the woman that captivated a world with her books only to unravel a legacy with her tweets."

Says so much about them, and nothing about JKR…

IwantToRetire · 26/01/2024 01:09

Seriously, has any other person who has a public profile had their name used some publicly over and over again by individuals and groups who have a particular act to grind.

There may have been, but the media ignored them.

That is the other part of the problem.

Its not as those the news story is who are these lunatics behaving like playground bullies.

It is reported as though their behaviour is normal.

Which of course given the continuing prevalence of patriarchy it is.

Its like families where a young boy keeps kicking his sister and they all go "boys will be boys" with price.

Its nauseating

“Joanne led a blessed life” ??? Errr, didn’t she escape an abusive relationship then lived in poverty as a single parent while she wrote the first book?

Yep!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 25/01/2024 21:06

Abusive men demonstrating their desire to promote hatred of women. A bit like a combination of Andrew Tate, Joey Barton & Billy Bragg on stage?
Worth missing I reckon.

It’s giving ‘Adrian Mole’s ‘queer’ son to me.’

DogsAkimbo · 26/01/2024 01:51

The synopsis for the show continues: "Joanne led a blessed life – for a woman.

Also, “for a woman”, that’s hilarious. I guess they do know the difference between men and women then. Whoops.

OneMorePlant · 26/01/2024 02:21

The year just started and this is going on the most pathetic list already 😂

I really wish she would get angry and tell a large law firm to start suing everyone.

fromorbit · 26/01/2024 05:48

This is depressing, but on the plus side it is only going to make JKR more popular. The thing is the writers are under the delusional idea that they hating JKR means no-one will like her stuff. Nope you are marginal.

The Christian right tried that and utterly failed in the 2000s. In fact their obsession with attacking Harry Potter made it seem cooler.

The TRAs ran tonnes of articles attacking Hogwarts game and turned it into the best selling game of the year.

JKR obviously knows about this play, she could try to get it closed down if it ran in the UK, it is probably defamatory. Yet she won't because she believes in free speech, also it is in the interest of her bank balance. The Harry Potter TV series is coming and the TRAs want it to be the most talked about series on the planet - she couldn't pay for that much free press.

This is a sign of desperation and weakness. Be interesting to see if they find a venue. The tide is turning everyone knows it. Basically it is a play which says women prisoners should be raped by men if you think about it.

The best response would be a counter play - about how JKR was brave enough to fight for women and girls against sexist nonsense. Only guess what there would be no venue. Why? Which is the side which is the real victim here?

A great response if the play gets shown would be that Scottish feminists could organise a JKR is a hero counter demo on the same day . Not outside the venue these people are too pathetic to be worth protesting directly, but elsewhere.

Jollyoldfruit · 26/01/2024 05:56

I bet the playwright thinks he’s being ‘courageous.’
What a knob he is!

SiobhanSharpe · 26/01/2024 06:01

Sounds like typically pretentious sixth form level horseshit.

AColdDarkWinter · 26/01/2024 06:58

I love JKR. Brave, talented woman. I imagine she won't give even the tiniest shit about this. 'Staging an intervention', oh my god. 😂

“Joanne led a blessed life” ??? Errr, didn’t she escape an abusive relationship then lived in poverty as a single parent while she wrote the first book?

Yes but I think you'll find she's a natural ginger? (How do they know 🤔) therefore #blessed #privileged

This is such a steaming turd. I would genuinely be interested in a thoughtful exploration of why exactly the words of JKR have provoked the reaction they did, I struggle to understand how people can see them as transphobic but a genuine, thoughtful piece about it would be of interest. Unfortunately it's just hate. Constant hate.

This is so contemptuous. Imagine having the audacity to even try to patronise JKR. What is that prayer? Give me the confidence of a mediocre male, indeed.

The boys could just listen to the Witch trials of JK Rowling podcast in which JK herself tells us very clearly what did motivate her? Save themselves a lot of time making things up and mansplaining. I guess that compulsive behavior is hard to resist though.

Tinysoxxx · 26/01/2024 09:59

Wouldn’t it be fun to do a play of the playwright who wrote this in the style he has written. Unfortunately that means I would have to research it.

FetchezLaVache · 26/01/2024 10:04

I've already made my placard for the counter demo. It reads "I rather like her, actually."

DonnaGiovanna · 26/01/2024 10:14

I fervently hope that this piece considers its premise seriously and concludes that JKR has said and done what she has because she is right. If not, I hope everyone involved lives long enough to taste the Wrong Side of History egg on their faces.

(Long and rich lives, I hope. I'm not the type of person to wish misfortune on people simply because we don't agree on an issue. Wish I could say the same for everyone.)

SinnerBoy · 26/01/2024 10:28

Nobody has ever heard of this weirdo. If he hadn't made such a demented fuss and used JK Rowling's name, he'd still be unknown. I doubt that his little vanity piece will be a success.

It may not be a good idea for her to sue, because even if she won, the "playwright" would probably whine that it's because she's a multi millionaire, who can afford hordes of top lawyers.

DiligentBanana · 26/01/2024 10:45

It's "progressive misogyny" out in the wild, isn't it. She's a successful woman [horror] who has succeeded [horror] where many men have failed [boo] and is using a little bit of her money [boo] to better the lives of other women [hiss] and she had the audacity to get her hedge trimmed [boo] BURN THE WITCH.

I can't imagine anyone actually going to pay to see this shite.

SinnerBoy · 26/01/2024 10:50

Hedge trimmed?!! Why, the very nerve!

songaboutjam · 26/01/2024 11:04

I can't imagine anyone actually going to pay to see this shite.

I can imagine students might, but I'd be surprised if it were a sellout success. NYC has an almost infinite supply of fantastic theatre productions, but most people have a finite supply of money.

Between a highly-rated Andrew Lloyd Webber musical and a niche, avant-garde / postmodernist project, I can put money on what would capture more people's interest.

Can't speak for the audience at the Fringe.

MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving · 26/01/2024 11:50

Did anyone watch the recent BBC drama Boat Story? It started off conventionally and then took a gloriously bonkers turn. Anyway, there was a play within a play about the events of the story (a bit meta) and it was an appalling fringe-style thing with very wooden acting. I am envisaging this JKR one to be just like that.

Well, it's got DR, EW and RG in it, so I think we can safely guarantee the very wooden acting!

They're just characters, they're not actually appearing! 😂Much like writing about JKR will not give the author of this JKR's popularity...

VeryQuaintIrene · 25/01/2024 21:06

Wow, she's really got deep inside their sad, envious little psyches, hasn't she?

I imagine JKR derives a lot of pleasure from the knowledge that she lives in their heads rent free 100% of the time.
