Sara Morrison vs Belfast Film Festival

Employers seem to be slow learners when it comes to women's rights! There’s another employment tribunal case being brought by a woman who attended and took the microphone at a Let Women Speak event in Belfast last year and has been treated very badly by her employer Belfast Film Festival as a result.

Looks like we’re going to have to keep gardening until they get the message.

disclaimer. I don’t know Sara and have no connection to BFF I’m just a woman who likes donating to causes that make a difference

I wonder if her lack of poker face led NC to do some digging...

Was just thinking that!

... during the evidence there was a precipitous break when I first used the phrase "men who say they're women". V soon after that there was some whispered comms between Professor Boyd and you judge and PB left the room at such speed that tho she was furthest from the door she was the first out.

What sort of case did she think she was going to hear? Can't have been a surprise

Oh shit

NC and when that happened one of the journalists came to me and said that if there were an objection to NC's use of language he would wish to be heard on that. That didn't happen. We don't know but we surmise that there was a conversation about my use of language.

Flagging up that we’re on p 40 - do we need a new thread?

SionnachRuadh · 14/11/2025 13:39

FGS I've worked in these environments. Not as a panel member, but even doing behind the scenes work I've had to say "I know that claimant, I can't look at her case file, please put a note on it to say I can't be involved in the case."

Panel members have to declare this stuff up front. Even if you believe an association with Pride doesn't create a real or apparent bias, you can't just keep it under your hat.

Is that you volunteering? Please say it is

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/11/2025 13:39

Is NC asking the judge to recuse himself as well?

NC we say that even if PB's strong views were not known to the panel then you and the panel then knew and we say at that point, if that happened, it was incumbent on you to recuse her or advise her to recuse herself. NC finally - for a foreign academic PB has a strikingly low

Well, it did me, I obviously need a bigger shovel, I found nothing. 😁

... online profile. We don't know her specialism. We think steps may have been taken to reduce her online presence making it more difficult to make an application of this order.
NC finally on Monday anonymity and restriction orders were made. That was dealt with in chambers.

So deliberate|?

IDareSay · 14/11/2025 13:42

NC it was mooted by the claimant and not opposed by the respondent. That order was made and on Tuesday morning you asked if the restrictive reporting order was nec - C did reconsider and allowed the anonymity order, not just restriction

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/11/2025 13:42

I'm very glad NW asked for this to not be held in private!

Too bloody right NC! You go! Sick of this stitching women up shit. How inappropriate of the judge and entire panel to let this slide.

I too volunteer for things much less controversial and weighty than this and I go out of my way to think about all potential conflicts of interest and declare them.

IDareSay · 14/11/2025 13:43

Phew! Just in time @TwoLoonsAndASprout

pronounsbundlebundle · 14/11/2025 13:44

This sort of thing being held in private and people being able to get away with such bias is partly why we are where we are so kudos to NW for opposing this and using his well earned reputation for journalistic integrity in the interests of true justice.
