Sara Morrison vs Belfast Film Festival

Employers seem to be slow learners when it comes to women's rights! There’s another employment tribunal case being brought by a woman who attended and took the microphone at a Let Women Speak event in Belfast last year and has been treated very badly by her employer Belfast Film Festival as a result.

Looks like we’re going to have to keep gardening until they get the message.

disclaimer. I don’t know Sara and have no connection to BFF I’m just a woman who likes donating to causes that make a difference

Sorry, Myrtle, I distracted you. You are amazing, and will have time for some fab knitting for a bit. This is bonkers

It's OK. I could have checked and it forced me to save a copy.

Unfortunately I can't knit as I'm turning a short heel and I've frogged it (ripped out several rows of knitting and then picked up remaining stitches) twice already. The first time because I practised in a different colour while waiting for my white wool to arrive. The second time because I had managed to increase by one stitch. The heel turn would have been perfect except it didn't pick up the rest of the sock on one side and created a large hole.

I now have to tink (unpick one by one) my very untidy picked up stitches (I am really bad at picking up), reknit that row and start again.

All of which requires a lot more concentration than I have right now. ♥️

I have no idea what any of this means, but it sounds heartbreaking. I thought knitting was supposed to be soothing!

'Thole' is still heard sometimes in parts of the North-west, definitely in Lancashire. I think in Yorkshire too.

But is that the same one as in NI? I'm pondering.
I thought it was T'hole. As in: Put wood in t'hole, which I take to mean put the door on the latch / shut that door.

MyAmpleSheep · 14/11/2025 12:57

Someone will correct me if I’m wrong but if you’re going to apply for a recusal it has to be as soon as you discover whatever the grounds are. You can’t roll along and see how things go. So if they found out in the middle of a witness’s testimony that’s just too bad.

Londonmummy66 · 14/11/2025 12:57

BettyBooper · 14/11/2025 12:52

NC must have something really important and nailed on, then, to take the risk.

I agree. If it is the judge she wants to recuse then is NI the same as E&W in which case NC doesn't have to make the recusal application to this judge - she can make it to another one if she thinks it would be better....

Knitting involves a lot of pulling out in my experience.

My DH says I get good value for money from the yarn 🤔

ILikeDungs · 14/11/2025 12:59

Well. I was going out to pick up onion sets.

Now I am glued and thinking of another donation to NW.

It's 12.59. Have they made it in time?????

It means I had to undo 14 rows of knitting by taking out the needles and pulling the wool so it unravelled. Then I had to use my needles to thread through the open stitches and it's very easy to unravel individual stitches at this point. So I have most stitches on the needles and I will use the needles to unpick rather than unravel the stitches. That way I have nest stitches to be redone.

It is an occupational hazards.

Sympathy - its why I prefer to crochet as frogging is so much easier when you only have one live loop at a time.

catscatscurrantscurrants · 14/11/2025 13:01

The Yorkshire thing with 'thole' - t'hole means 'the hole'. Thole is usually pronounced 'thoyle' where I'm from (South/West Yorks border) ie. I can't thoyle it. The T in t'hole has a glottal stop.

It must be one of the panel members

Yes that’s what I assume, like Kristie Higgs having Edward Lord and him being obliged to recuse himself.

It's all much more brainy than I thought

MarieDeGournay · 14/11/2025 13:02

Glottal stops - frogging - live loops - everyday a school day here😁

Sorry who is deborah? I get that she's a panellist but whats her full name and role please? Just so I understand the reference

Another one asking who is Deborah? Agree with pp too, I'm sure Naomi wouldn't piss off the judge like this unless it's gold!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/11/2025 13:04

There were two refusals for the same reason in that case, and ISTR in the end the judge went ahead without a panel member.

I don't know the process at all, but it seems odd that they didn't let SC and CE do the drafting so that she could explain to the judge

I'm afraid to ask what frogging is, as it may be like dogging but with French people.😁
Isn't frogging what they call the elaborate braiding on the front of a fancy military uniform?

NoBinturongsHereMate · 14/11/2025 13:06

Waiting to go back in. R's legal waiting room looks quite full. Can see some female feet and handbag in the C's room but can't see if the whole team is there.

Szygy · 14/11/2025 13:07

@MyrtleLion I always go with Curious Handmade's excellent technique for heel-turns - you may well know it, but in case you don't, try taking a look at this link

@KittyWilkinson yes, that's a contraction of 'in the hole', so 'put wood i'th'ole' - but also 'thole' as a word, meaning 'suffer' - as in 'I can't stand it' or 'can't put up with it'.
