Employers seem to be slow learners when it comes to women's rights! There’s another employment tribunal case being brought by a woman who attended and took the microphone at a Let Women Speak event in Belfast last year and has been treated very badly by her employer Belfast Film Festival as a result.

Looks like we’re going to have to keep gardening until they get the message.

disclaimer. I don’t know Sara and have no connection to BFF I’m just a woman who likes donating to causes that make a difference

Wow that is disgusting treatment by BFF. Luckily we've already had an arts sector win thanks to the brilliant Denise Fahmy. Sara's legal team will be able to draw on that one as well as others.

The rate we are racking up these wins we'll soon have an example judgement for every sector.

No such thing as a 'pitiful' carrot @crosstalk - it will encourage the others and help the fertility of the veg patch.

Does the Forstater result apply in NI, do we know?

TheseCowsAreSmall · 23/01/2024 18:39

Yes Forstater should apply in NI, which is good news.

I can honestly say that nothing in Sara's story is exaggerated. It's as horrible as it sounds!!!

SerotinaPickeler · 23/01/2024 18:40

Gardened and following.

fromorbit · 23/01/2024 19:23

Gardening going well over 5,747 veggies planted so far. Think we will have huge harvest here. Again!

Forester1 · 23/01/2024 19:30

Have also just gardened. So disappointing that this is still happening. With some of the court cases the issues predated Forstater but clearly not this one.

RhannionKPSS · 23/01/2024 19:33

Planning to do some gardening for Thursday, as some women I know are also taking action against a pub which discriminated against them after a LWS event. They could do with some flowers.

Oh my god, thank you so much! I've been on here STRICTLY as a lurker for about 16 or so years. The response today has been overwhelming. The past 7 months or so has been hell-ish. My life has utterly changed, both good and bad. But tbh seeing a thread about me on here has blown my mind. I am proud to say I was radicalised by Mumsnet.

Thank you amazing women 💜🤍💚

Very happy to help and will again if needed.

I'm very sorry you've been put through this ordeal. 💐

It's incredible! The comments make me want to cry. But I can't believe how supportive people have been the last week of a very long January

A wee bit of gardening done x

JanesLittleGirl · 23/01/2024 20:42

A couple of radishes for Sarah and the same for the crew standing up against Robinson's.

ickky · 23/01/2024 21:04

FFS When will they learn.

Very cold and windy to be gardening, but I braved it.

Boiledbeetle · 23/01/2024 21:43

Just had a quick check of how it's going

Well, I'll be planting some potatoes once I get paid. We've got your back @plasticpotato. I hope you have lots of real life support too.

Absolutely horrendous behaviour by BFF- nothing short of trying to deny a woman her right to free speech in a democracy.

Howtheweeshtwaswon · 24/01/2024 00:21

Didn't know about your case @plasticpotato - I'm so very sorry. Disgusted by the BFF and their luxury beliefs - although I'm not entirely surprised. I've planted some carrots and wish you the very best.

I hope you're a member of the FSU. They have a Free Speech event on in Belfast this Friday.

UtopiaPlanitia · 24/01/2024 01:01

It’s payday this week so I’ll be happy to add my wee bit to Sara’s garden and that of the claimants against Robinson’s Bar - glad to see the fight to establish WORIADS is starting up here in Norn Iron.

It’ll also be interesting to see how our equality legislation will be relevant to this topic. For obvious historical reasons, NI has legal protections for religious belief, philosophical and political opinion and we don’t have the Equality Act 2010 but do we have the Fair Employment and Treatment (NI) Order 1998.

https://www.equalityni.org/Employers-Service-Providers/The-equality-law-framework

Excerpt:
'In addition, one of the equality laws, the Fair Employment & Treatment (NI) Order 1998, seeks to protect the rights of all people to hold and, within limits, express or demonstrate certain beliefs or opinions. In relation to employment, the protected grounds are religious belief, philosophical belief and political opinion. Thus, an employer may not normally refuse to employ a person, or may not dismiss a person, merely because that person holds, or is perceived to hold, a particular religious or philosophical belief or political opinion, even if some other people may find those beliefs or opinions to be offensive. Harassment on those grounds is also unlawful.

However, that does not mean that a person who holds a particular set of protected beliefs or opinions has a right to express, or demonstrate their support for, those beliefs or opinions in ways that would discriminate against or harass other persons on any of the protected grounds in situations where the law prohibits such discrimination and harassment, such as in workplaces.'

For those interested in NI Employment Tribunals etc here’s a factsheet from the Labour Relations Agency:

Thanks for the reminder, I will do some gardening later for this. Also a reminder that Pilgrim Tuckers case against the Open University still needs to sprinkling.

And sneakily Crowdjustice have set their added 'tip' thing to 20% of your donation now, it used to be 10%, I usually give zero to them. You have to scroll down and undo it unless you want to be hit with that. They already get a percentage of whatever is raised.

Pratincole · 24/01/2024 17:03

Just added to the veg patch. I may not be able to do much in this struggle but I can chuck a few seeds in any allotment that needs it.

Boiledbeetle · 24/01/2024 17:30

Over £9 and a half K
