£1 million prize offered for anyone who can provide a clear example of a transphobic J.K. Rowling quote

As the title says, a million pounds is being offered by Distance Magazine https://www.thedistancemag.com/p/we-will-award-steve-wardlaw-1-million?r=uglk&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

"To win the Steve Wardlaw Prize™, an entrant must demonstrate that the cited statement by J.K. Rowling does not involve a rights conflict. That is, the cited statement must materially detract from the human rights of ‘transgender people’ without simultaneously arguing for the rights of another group, such as women, children, or people with faith traditions."

They've named the prize after Steve Wardlaw who I've never heard of but his pinned tweet is an apology to Alison Bailey

We Will Award Steve Wardlaw £1 Million For The Elusive 'Anti-Trans' J.K. Rowling Quote

He has assured us that it exists

I think pp might be slightly confused. Having your ‘head torn off’ is a turn of phrase. The point of what I was saying was whatever transphobic jargon JKR comes out with, you won’t see it as transphobic because you’ve been brainwashed into believing that trans women erode your rights. If I said that I didn’t believe that trans women were women you’d agree with that despite the fact that statement itself is transphobic. You live in this echo chamber that means you are impossible to reason with. The paranoia on this board is phenomenal.

Please PLEASE can you actually show us evidence that JKR is transphobic. Show us actual quotes or statements that she has made.

popebishop · 16/08/2023 21:07

She wrote an entire book with a transphobic premise.

Is this the same bloody nonsensical thing we were laughing about earlier?!

It's a bit of a dramatic turn of phrase, as is the word brainwashed.
Who decides what is and isn't transphobic? When two people disagree on what is transphobic which one is right?
I believe you probably live in your own echo chamber that has different views.
You can reason here, you'll just need to use logic and make a rational argument.
Your claim of paranoia is just more hyperbole.

Here's an example of rationality:
A small proportion of people who claim to be trans women are sexual predators using the trans label/shield to enable their predatory behaviour.
There is no mechanism or clause that helps separate these predators from the non predator trans women in the trans manifesto. The mantra is "anyone who identifies as a woman". This is the crux of the problem.
A single example out of many is the rapist(s) in prison who want to be around women so claim to be trans. e.g. Isla Bryson.
If pro trans lobby people said "Yeah that is a problem. Lets work together to establish some rules and boundaries to sort the good from the bad. Lets work out something that works for both sides." A lot of GC women would happily engage in that in good faith. Progress would be made.
But instead the trans lobby says "Fuck you TERFS!".
For some reason the fuck you TERFS language does not go down well with women, I wonder why.
When someone asks is Isla Bryson a man or a woman, replying their gender is "rapist" doen't help. It signals that the person answering is unable to answer because they are caught between misgendering a rapist, or looking fukking stupid on TV ( hint they already look stupid ). Women watching this see the rapist who raped two women as having a higher rights priority than they do. This makes them very unhappy, I wonder why.
When the pro trans lobby works out a way to accept that women have rights at least equal to rapists, preferrably higher, then dialogue can happen. Once ernest good faith dialogue starts to happen you will get much better results than "fuck you TERFS" because you know what the TERFS are winning right now. They don't call the UK TERF Island because the TERFS are losing.
The trans rights lobby needs to acknowledge that there are some people ( a minority ) who claim to be trans for bad reasons. Once there are protections for women and children from the bad actors the road for the trans activism will be much easier, pleasant, and coperative.
I personally see trans activism as different from trans people. I believe most trans people just try and avoid the fight and live their lives the best they can while not harming anyone. The trans activists I see as a religious group who believe that it's impossible for any human to lie about their motives for doing something despite the evidence of politicians existing, and that every person who claims to be trans is an angel including Adam the meaty rapist as DNK likes to call him.

Start to engage in genuine good faith dialogue or continue to lose on a daily basis, the choice is yours.

I’m going to get my head torn off for saying this but she has made multiple transphobic comments. She wrote an entire book with a transphobic premise. However you choose to not recognise her actions as transphobic due to your personal opinions. Transphobia isn’t just calling somebody a slur, it’s much deeper than that. Just because she hasn’t said she hates trans people, doesn’t mean that she isn’t transphobic. Transphobia and antisemitism seem to be the two most socially accepted forms of discrimination. I hope in years to come, some of you will look back at your actions in distaste!

errr! I didn’t think eresh was missing the point.

What part of paranoid is starting a post with ‘I’m going to get my head torn off for saying this but’.

Paranoid and hyperbolic from what I can see.

Still! Please do submit your findings! Good luck.

popebishop · 16/08/2023 21:11

The op literally describes the "transphobia" they are looking for. You don't need to guess or make it up or claim that you know another woman's mind more than she does! You could just save yourself a load of bother and... read the words!

(Just kidding, I know engaging rationally will never happen)

Mochudubh · 16/08/2023 21:11

I do not like thee, JKR.
No evidence I have so far
But transphobic I know you are
I do not like thee JKR.

MavisMcMinty · 16/08/2023 21:14

Everything JKR writes is actually two entirely separate tweets/essays/novels, but one is written in lemon juice, and only TRAs know how to hold the screen/paper up to a hot light bulb to reveal her secret transphobic diatribes.

That will be £1,000,000, thangyew.

Or an ancient palimpsest. You need both UV and infra-red lamps to see both texts, one lying over the other.

Dragonwindow · 16/08/2023 21:29

@Whatsthepoint1234 let's say I agree that real transwomen are women. I don't believe, however, that those well-documented violent men who suddenly decide to transition once in prison count as "real" transwomen, so I don't believe they are women. Does that count as transphobic?

Ie does every single man in a dress count as an actual woman, or just some of them? And how can I tell the difference between the men who are actually women, and then men who are just pretending to be women?

determinedtomakethiswork · 16/08/2023 21:41

Fantastic! I can think of a few people, I will send that to. People who are actually really broke, so maybe they will have a go!

Whatsnewpussyhat · 16/08/2023 21:43

It isn't transphobic to say transwomen are men/male. It's fact.
The only prerequisite to being one is to be male otherwise they wouldn't be 'trans'

"Transwomen are women" is nothing but a nonsense mantra spouted by believers in the new quasi religious gender identity ideology.

Maaate · 16/08/2023 21:50

So the front runners are:

a tweet where JKR says that she feels empathy and kinship with transwomen and the idea she hates them is ridiculous

And

She wrote an as yet unamed book with a transphobic premise.

It's a shoe in!

How much haribo can I get with a million quid?

Nonsense. Utter nonsense. Trans people erode my rights if TW feel entitled to enter women's spaces. If TW stay where they belong, with the other males, then my rights are not eroded. Its not transphobic to recognise biology. It's not transphobic to recognise that most assaults are committed by males and that gender identity does not change offending pattern. It's so misogynistic to pretend that there is some sort of ism being committed when people refuse to pretend that a male is ever a woman.

That debacle at Hampstead Ponds rolls antisemitism, misogyny and ageism up into one complete parcel. Add in islamophobia to that.

JanesLittleGirl · 16/08/2023 22:27

JKR is a transphobe if you believe that TWAW. If you, like JKR, believe that sex is immutable but any individual should be free to live their best life without impinging on the rights of others, then she is not a transphobe.
