Bit cheeky unless you're paying £££ in my opinion.

Working Time Directive outs responsibility on employers to ensure their employees aren’t breaching hours or work break requirements.

anyolddinosaur · 23/08/2023 12:18

@FFSWhatToDoNow Wow - can employers also stop you volunteering then, or define any activity you do for a hobby but also make money from as "work". Not allowed to sell your knitting or make a dress for anyone else at your dressmaking class. Not allowed any fun activity at all if you make money from it?

St John's Ambulance will collapse as it relies heavily on NHS staff.

Volunteering isn’t work.

I work for a charity, and yes, employers do put limits on how much volunteering people can do for their well-being/safety. I’m ex-St John and NHS/police/fire services do put limits on how much their employees can work. Nobody wants them working 4 12+ hour shifts, volunteering for 30 hours at the weekend then back to work on Monday.

FFSWhatToDoNow · 23/08/2023 12:27

One offs wouldn’t count, and there is an argument about being self employed but i suppose if you’re always knackered for work because you spend every night seeing dresses to sell at craft fairs at the weekend, your employer is entitled to be concerned about that.

if you’re in a role where lives literally depend on you being alert, they won’t want you risking that with additional unlimited employed or volunteering activity.

IcakethereforeIam · 23/08/2023 13:08

One place I used to work, they were okay with 2nd jobs as long as they weren't in competition or could use the main job to tout for work. But this was in the days before SM. And obviously not using any job supplies, time, contacts, etc. for your side hustle.

Same here. I wasn't there long, for various reasons, but they had a similar and quite reasonable clause in the contract. The only times I've heard of clauses which forbid any outside work were for people who worked in outrageously well paid jobs where they basically own you. It was a long time ago so maybe things have changed.

I do hope that the outcome of the 'HR investigation' is that they recommend Jenny is included in advising on diversity etc in the company.

If they shit on her in any way, that'll bring them into disrepute with many more people than it would please.

Hepwo · 23/08/2023 15:16

Doesn't she work for a local authority?

Its a massive stretch to think this is bringing a local authority into disrepute! Nonsense.

They serve EVERYONE.

fromorbit · 23/08/2023 20:38

Jenny appeared on TalkTV:

Interview with Julie Bindel where Jenny gets a chance to talk without pressure and talks more about the threat to her job [she works in a council planning department ] :

Jenny has a page where she sells stickers, badges and shirts:

Still unclear where we are on legal action so keep your gardening tools handy. There seems to be a bunch of evidence this is a targeted homophobic attack. Hopefully LGBA is working on building a court case, especially against the first venue where the manager was involved, there seems plenty to work on.

A local authority colluding with homophobic gender zealots to harass a lesbian is not a good look. Don't councils have a special duty not to discriminate? I'm so glad LGBA have her back.

CrazyArmadilloLady · 23/08/2023 21:11

I’m not getting the ‘gardening tools’ references.

Gardening leave? I assume not.

anyolddinosaur · 23/08/2023 21:14

Arranging an event that you enjoy - and is funded by donations - is NOT the same as work. Volunteering for St Johns is not the same intensity as an NHS job.

When it affects your work the employer can have a say, otherwise its MYOB.

Public servants are generally expected to keep quiet in public about anything politically controversial, I imagine that is what they will "investigate". I hope she has not named where she works, whoever else may have done so.

Gardening tools help legal cases when necessary..

fromorbit · 23/08/2023 22:20

Jenny should have the same rights as Catholics, Muslims and indeed Tories or left wingers to have differing opinions and work for a council. Catholics go to church which doesn't even think unmarried people should live together and that trans people do not exist at all.

You can work for the UK government which is a monarchy and be a republican.

The situation is this exactly we are expecting homosexuals to pretend that being homosexual doesn't exist in 2023. Because it upsets people.

And remember being a gay man means you get to have somewhere to go. Google gay saunas see how many there are. Events for lesbians... virtually nothing.

You were better off being a lesbian teenager 30 years ago.

FFSWhatToDoNow · 23/08/2023 23:27

Volunteering for St Johns is not the same intensity as an NHS job.

They’re now the ambulance auxiliary to the NHS. It’s absolutely as stressful as the NHS for ambulance crew and HCPs in many many cases.

First aiders probably less so.

which is why context matters.

(and it’s St John, not St John’s/‘s)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/08/2023 00:02

I’m not getting the ‘gardening tools’ references.

Gardening is shorthand for supporting legal crowdfunds.

OwningAllMyMistakes · 13/08/2023 07:19

How do you know they have penises ? Can you tell if someone has a penis or not?
its a lot easier to tell if someone’s a bigot than it is if someone has a penis.

Well maybe the erection encased in purple latex gave it away. Honestly I find it really homophobic to say that people aren't allowed to be exclusively same sex attracted or have single sex events . Instead we should be kind to the straight blokes with a fetish

anyolddinosaur · 24/08/2023 07:43

@FFSWhatToDoNow So tell me how many drives an Ambulance driver attending a charity event with St John (pedant alert) does compared to a normal NHS day? Unless there is a terrorist bomb the answer may well be none and considerably more than none. Dont know why you wish to shut St John down but it wouldnt function without off duty NHS staff. Fortunately their employers are more sensible than you.

Reality is important.

I don’t need to get into an argument with you, but the business model has changed since Covid. Fewer HCPs at static events (excluding marathons etc) and more doing actual ambulance work. Lots of change. A number of public bodies require their staff to have permission to undertake additional roles (including unpaid) and have limited their extra-curricular activities.

But I don’t actually care if you believe the words of an actual ex-SJA employee (not volunteer) or not. It doesn’t alter the truth. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If any are on Twitter - Jenny is looking to start up a members only lesbian venue.

I won't link the whole post as there's a bit of gardening involved for those interested (including a link)but a screenshot of part of it is attached. Anyone interested can look up the whol post 😊

Lesbian speed dating event accused of transphobia for not allowing men
Froodwithatowel · 01/10/2023 10:31

Thank you. I'd be delighted to support ONE place that is specifically for female homosexuals since male people now own all the others.

<waits for the inevitable howls of 'That's so mean we want that one tooooo!'

Well what a surprise - Jenny’s event disrupted because entitled men didn’t get their own way

These wretched men and their enablers cannot permit women to have even one resource of their own. Not even ONE.

Sending her encouragement to commit suicide ffs. It is evil, disordered behaviour.

encouraging her to commit suicide...

yet the police choose to act if someone misgenders as literal violence and ignore death and rape threats.

what does not fail to astonish me is that people still think they are on the right side of history.

Froodwithatowel · 09/10/2023 15:09

Yes. I have no difficulty in spotting the 'hate' there.

But it's naming biology that's evil, not telling a woman to kill herself for daring to be out and proud about a sexuality that meets her needs, but as a side effect, prevents men using her body.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 09/10/2023 15:41

Jesus they really are cunts aren’t they

they cannot deal with anyone saying no to them

as for the women quislings enabling this - words fail me
