Well done to the hotel staff. ‘trans ‘woman’ given key to the unisex changing room instead of the female changing room ‘trans woman’ not happy.

@SerafinasGoose

"I'd conclude further, and venture to suggest it's the lack of consent that is the buzz. Otherwise, why was the unisex changing room not good enough?"

In the same way that rape is nothing to do with sex, and everything about domination, power and control.

DeanElderberry · 27/07/2023 15:05

beg to differ, rape imho is undoubtedly about domination, power and control, it is also very much about sex. It is quite dangerous to forget or deny that.

SerafinasGoose · 27/07/2023 13:56

The last sentence has it.

And in response to a comment upthread: But you cannot conclude that they are doing anything other than forcing themselves onto women in an intimate situation where the women are unconsenting.

I'd conclude further, and venture to suggest it's the lack of consent that is the buzz. Otherwise, why was the unisex changing room not good enough?

The presence of women is the essential component here. I'm hoping the media continues to run with this story. It has legs, that's for sure.

It really does. And I wish the media would start to ask the question.

We've had a brilliant run rate with what is a woman. And the old, guess how many women have a penis.

I'll now like to see, why is the presence of women so crucial to the room in which you want to pee or take your clothes off?

Froodwithatowel · 27/07/2023 15:57

And not just the presence of women. Offer a unisex space where the women happy and able to undress in the presence of strangers who are male, and you get a flat no, no way.

The validation only works if you are in the space where the non consenting women are. There can be no space for them to hide. The requirement is that they either get their kit off before the male as required and validate with their body, regardless of their diversity or inclusion/access/equality needs, or they lose access to any space at all.

See: gatekeeping your vagina. As a woman, you are permitted no acceptable reason that will pass the male rational fact check of what women may have/do/think/need.

This somehow does not blow apart the claim that these male people are female, women, indistinguishable from women (apart from their right to autonomy, feelings, choice, total control over the situation and privilege, and the total lack of anyone telling them to reframe their trauma, abandon their religion, get over their disability and just get their damn knickers off already.)

This. A lot of men enjoy forcing women to do what they don't want.

We know this. We've always known it. Every organisation addressing violence against women and girls knows it. The police know it. The NHS knows it. The government know it.

And they're openly, transparently, gleefully complicit in pretending it's not happening.

Yup. Quite a lot of women enjoy doing it to other women too.

"You know how you need space, privacy, dignity, depend on this for access? Well you can't have it!'.

How messed up do you have to be to think like this?

CaptainBatEars · 27/07/2023 19:28

I hope the press run with this and don't let it drop at all. It's the embodiment of Helen Staniland's question in the same way that Isla Bryson & Karen White show the danger in the former prison policy. Has there been any response from Swim England yet about why they're letting men hang about in the female changing facilities at competitions?

They're forcing non consenting young girls to undress in front of a man. Without informing their parents or giving them the opportunity to withdraw their daughters.

CaptainBatEars · 27/07/2023 21:53

yes, I get that, and it's appalling. That's why I was asking if SE have responded yet.

AbsoluteYawns · 27/07/2023 22:05

Someone has posted a review on TripAdvisor about this. Good on them! Shine a light on these men.
Well done that staff member. I hope she sees all these comments of support.

A former teammate of Lia Thomas testifies, including how being forced to share changing spaces with a male feels:

Christ. Lia Thomas and the university were forcing these women to change in front of him 18 times a week. And if they didn't want to, or tried to change in a toilet cubicle instead, they were told they needed to see a fucking psychiatrist, presumably in order to acquire some obedience.

Absolutely shocking

They call it progress datun. Pretty stark and undeniable when you hear it laid out like that.

SqueakyDinosaur · 28/07/2023 10:34

I wonder if Anne Coombes has seen that?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 28/07/2023 10:35

Oh Anne will be reading everything and fuelling a humiliation fetish I’m sure

Isn't it!

Do you think women/girls could start some sort of class action for being forced into these situations. I know there are numerous organisations and institutions involved but could a mass action against the government for allowing this to take place be possible? Governments have stood back and watched and even legislated for it.

It's so extreme, so rapey and so inhumane, it does make you grasp exactly how much sexism is going on in the world in general, and sport in particular, that they thought it was acceptable, if not downright dutiful.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 28/07/2023 10:56

That's not even being complicit in the abuse (from others) and turning a blind eye - it's actually wholesale, deliberately, actively perpetrating it themselves.

Like with some of these drag queens and 'community theatre groups' who force their way into schools, in the name of 'inclusivity', with the clear intention of telling children damaging and grossly inappropriate things - things that no 'standard' teacher would ever get away with telling them - these people facilitating the abuse should be taken in for questioning and their hard drives seized; not be freely allowed to get away with gaslighting the victims and telling them that they are the disgusting ones.

It is the natural next step from having got away with, for years, telling lesbians to 'learn to cope' with straight sex with men who claim an identity. ie that sex is not for them to enjoy, or to expect pleasure, or even to want, it is a social duty they must learn to force themselves to provide to men.

And a lot of wankers nodded sagely and let them witter on about sexual racism instead of demanding 'are you out of your fucking mind?'

This is all about requiring women to validate men with their bodies.

And now apparently, you can subject them to conversion therapy to force them to learn to cope with presenting their undressed bodies to men who require this service, like good girls, selflessly putting aside their own beliefs and feelings for the man.

At what point is anyone going to really have a problem with this? Because we're banning conversion therapy while this group use it freely to control and abuse women. Women's human rights are being framed as nothing next to the needs of a man. This has always been an abusive relationship between the trans lobby and women, but we are at the point of get the fuck out of the house to a refuge because this is abuse beyond negotiation or mediation or anything but escape and court action.

I was thinking the same thing. Those poor, poor girls. God, it makes me angry.

“Trans joy”.

Interesting take by this male on using the female changing rooms being used by teenage girls.

I do hope that some serious complaints went in to British Swimming.
