Well done to the hotel staff. ‘trans ‘woman’ given key to the unisex changing room instead of the female changing room ‘trans woman’ not happy.

You’re the one that’s full of hate trying to bully someone on the internet for no reason

Gotta love it when someone homophobic accuses me of being full of hate

I'm done with you now anyway, you have tried to divert the thread enough

Back to the Sheffield situation...

I've got everything crossed that the press goes big with this. The first story (already published in the Mail and linked above) was helpful but the second story that is currently unfolding is massive.

I'm currently picturing all 3 party leaders being asked the equivalent of the Isla Bryson question. This could be pivotal in politics (general election can't be far off) and in clarifying the Equality Act.

Journalist on camera: "Do you believe Anne Coombes is a woman?"

Rishi: "No, of course not. I believe everyone has the right to express themselves how they want to, but no."

Keir: "I believe these discussions are important"

Ed: "er... I believe this person is.... a.... er..... swimming official."

Ed will go straight down on the Nicola Sturgeon ship. Keir will wobble about a bit before being forced to make a clear statement one way or the other. Perhaps he could ask Rosie to help him with tips on how to navigate things when everyone turns against you?

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 27/07/2023 11:01

Rosie could teach Starmer a great deal, if only he would speak to her.

DIE course - what an acronym!
Translation: uppity woman should be sent for Re-Education.

"re-education" a term commonly coined by fascist dictators that actually involves very little education and more abuse and propaganda.

"re-education" a term commonly coined by fascist dictators that actually involves very little education and more abuse and propaganda.

Well, originally used to translate a Chinese term for a system of administrative detention in Communist China.

Often now used satirically in reference to authoritarian ideologies and movements such as Trans rights activism and their attempts to stifle debate and silence objectors.

Though used entirely without irony by some activists especially in the US e.g. on the website of Health Poverty Action
"Join our re-education movement!"

Froodwithatowel · 27/07/2023 12:16

They have mentioned gulags before now. I've often thought how much this lot would love Magdalen Laundries for the punishment of non co operative women.

Froodwithatowel · 27/07/2023 12:17

Is 'full of hate' the current phrase for someone disagreeing with something you say?

Hate seems to have been emptied out of all semantic meaning, like other words. Such as kind. And woman. And reality.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 27/07/2023 12:19

Is 'full of hate' the current phrase for someone disagreeing with something you say?

Yup. Try the royal board if you don't believe it. 'Hate' has been beaten into meaninglessness* by its overuse there.

*Dunno if it's a word. Don't care.

NicCageisnotNickCave · 27/07/2023 12:19

’Full of Hate’ always puts me in mind of this scene from the film, ‘Pecker’:

Making your own stuff up and then brazening it out is all the rage, MrsDanvers, you're right down with the kids!

It's definitely a word with more meaning than many others we're currently supposed to accommodate.

I'm a little uncomfortable at the poking of Anna, many posters will have been where she is now and helping posters up the mountain is much better.

Not at all convinced that poster is 'good faith'. That isn't my call to make, and their view of men in women-specific areas is their affair.

But when a poster makes comments that are at best difficult or at worst distressing or downright offensive for victims of abuse, rape and assault to read, you can bet I'm going to pick them up on it.

I’m coming to this from a place of where I haven’t really thought about it much beforehand. My main thought was that although I don’t necessary agree with a trans male accessing womens spaces, I have compassion for people suffering mental health issues and delusions

Annaishere · 27/07/2023 12:46

And the thing is, psychiatrists aren’t allowed to treat this

You can't possibly read what the person in question has to say and not conclude that they are gleefully enjoying and determined to, violate women's and girls' boundaries.

You can, of course, speculate as to the reasons, as will everybody else.

But you cannot conclude that they are doing anything other than forcing themselves onto women in an intimate situation where the women are unconsenting.

What you don't seem to be able to do is drag your eyes off the male in question, and try to focus on the women and girls. Their rights, their feelings, their permission.

Try it!

DeanElderberry · 27/07/2023 12:53

This thread is doing good work discussing the initial tweet by the person who wanted access to women's space, the Hotel's response, and the person's back story.

Well done everyone who is resisting the repeated attempts to divert and derail it,

'meaninglessness' is in Merriam-Webster and Collins.

(90 seconds later) and in Oxford as well

You scholar, you.

I am so confused. Why should wearing a skirt be indicative that he's a woman? Clothes don't make a gender.
And what is so offensive about being given the key to the unisex changing room? Why does it matter where you get changed? I would just have got changed where the key worked and focused on going swimming. Unless getting access to where other biological women were changing was my top priority.

Because this is all about what he wants and nothing else.

The last sentence has it.

And in response to a comment upthread: But you cannot conclude that they are doing anything other than forcing themselves onto women in an intimate situation where the women are unconsenting.

I'd conclude further, and venture to suggest it's the lack of consent that is the buzz. Otherwise, why was the unisex changing room not good enough?

The presence of women is the essential component here. I'm hoping the media continues to run with this story. It has legs, that's for sure.

mrshoho · 27/07/2023 14:06

Because society has been well and truly been played by TRAs and MRAs into going along with the lie that men can become women if they want to. Not happy with having a society who will accept people however they wish to dress, they have taken this to the extreme where everyone is expected to go along with the lie and ignore the scientific facts. We are being compelled to ignore what our eyes see.

Live and let live is what I and most people believe. If Anne wants to dress in skirts that's fine, just don't expect me to say Anne is a woman and don't expect Anne to muscle into women's/Female's single sex places.

I think you are absolutely right. The aspect of forcing your presence on unconsenting women is part of the thrill. If you just want to get changed to go swimming you really don't give a hoot where you change, as long as it is safe, since your aim is to go swimming.
