Wouldn't it be good to point out to every publication, twitter poster and commentator that, according to the judgement,

*CGD were guilty of "oppressive and high-handed conduct in the public statements "
They "overstated judicial observations about the Claimant’s belief, and suggested that her belief could be equated to bigotry."

The discriminatory acts undertaken by CGD ... affected the Claimant’s status within the Respondents’ organisation and in the eyes of the wider professional world.”

The Tribunal criticised CGD’s conduct during the four-year court battle, finding that it had made inflammatory and inaccurate public statements .. which contributed to the abuse on social media, and the professional and personal shunning, experienced by Ms Forstater.

The employment tribunal stated that Judge Tayler had not in fact characterised Maya Forstater’s words as offensive or as causing harm to trans people.

In today’s judgment the Employment Tribunal made clear that:
“The EAT had not suggested that the Claimant had harassed or discriminated against anyone." *

I would like to see every publication who misrepresented the conclusion of the EAT taken to account over this.

Please can people screenshot twitter a bit? I know it must be kicking off on there, and all the good people of GC land will be hulla-ballooing, but as of today I can't see it!

Same here. As of today, twitter links no longer work for me, as I don’t have a twitter account. I could read twitter threads linked on here before today.

Thank you for explaining.

HarpyValley · 30/06/2023 19:03

Bloody brilliant. Maya is a shero and those of us in captured workplaces in particular owe her so much.

An excellent end to this month.

ILikeDungs · 30/06/2023 19:03

Oh thanks Boiled. My goodness, it's all happening at once

Ooh. Can't wait.

So pleased for Maya.

It gives me very happy feels when crowdfunders I've contributed to win. Like backing a winner on the Derby -I like a modest gamble now and again. I think we need a spreadsheet of all the Court cases and their outcomes. I do try to put the receipts into an email folder so I can check what I've supported.

Giggle v Tickle is a big one that I think will need a lot of gardening as the stakes are high.

Have I mixed enough metaphors?

FannyCann · 30/06/2023 19:08

The "just seen this" refers to a date to watch, 6th July for the LGBA V Mermaids judgement.

Not if they’re stakes for delphiniums 😄

Some of the main take aways. Blows holes through the rubbish TRAs came up with about the case.

Ta for that DerekFaker

I wasn't supposed to be drinking tonight, but I'm going to have to raise a glass to Maya. She's ace!

Wouldn't it be nice to see a senior Labour Party official make a statement in support of worker's rights? And point out that it is their legislation which allowed this action to be brought and won? But I suppose it would be nice to see pigs fly too.

I always think that following Stonewall Law is like following a map of the Earth based on it being flat, or the instructions of a would-be alchemist.

Somewhat inaccurate and misleading.

RealityFan · 30/06/2023 19:54

Is this the best settlement Maya could have got? Does it fully "exonerate" her? Does the sum cover her costs? Can these chumps go to appeal? Can they go slow on "reimbursing" her?

And can we finally get past the "Oh those pesky GCs, naively thinking this means anything, all it does is allow Maya and other charlatans to believe the world is flat, it does nothing to dilute the protections trans have from hateful views like hers and GCs"

Maya won on appeal, so CGD can’t do anything now but pay up.

In a sane world, potential clients would avoid this Chambers like the plague.

I mean, if highly paid (yes), well briefed (not so much) and intelligent (having a laugh now) barristers don't know their own fucking law, well, they're not fit for purpose, yes?

Why would anyone want to commission them?

I think you’re getting CGD (the organisation Maya worked for) with the barristers Garden Court Chambers, which used to be Allison Bailey’s chambers.

You're right, I'm afraid the euphoria is addling me.
