Woman's swimsuit modelled by a man.

twitter.com/sophielouisecc/status/1658827159803240452?s=61&t=_FVhOkJfaHrQrqGFLoyivg

What's the point? So we can see there's enough room for our meat and 2 veg?

Why is this always males advertising women specific products to women?
Is there a single example of a female who wants to be a man advertising men's products to men?

Take DM and Bud Light, that was a male who wants to be a woman advertising beer to men.

It seems the target market doesn't matter it's ALWAYS males who want to be women being chosen to represnt the brand. Why is it always one way?

MoggyMittens23 · 18/05/2023 11:21

@jellyfrizz fuck it, I am going to go to the pool this weekend in budgie smugglers (made for all, don't you know) just that though because people can wear what they like. Might even go in the men's changing rooms, spice it up. makes no difference. we are all the same.... blah, blah, fucking blah

?? I’m not sure why you assume I think everyone is the same just because I have no problem with a male wearing more fabric than your average serious male swimmer? Or what that’s got to do with single sex changing areas?

fajitaaa · 18/05/2023 11:33

MoggyMittens23 · 18/05/2023 11:19

I KNOW it's in both sections. But I THINK it should be a woman wearing it for the woman's section.

Ahh ok I get you

jellyfrizz · 18/05/2023 11:33

MoggyMittens23 · 18/05/2023 11:16

@jellyfrizz why do you care so much that I don't want to to see a man squeezed into a 'woman's' swimming costume under the WOMEN's section? Why are you so bothered by me being affronted by this? Is it ok that I have this opinion or do I need to shut up and let the men folk keep modelling the little women's clothing?

I’m giving an opinion, just as you are. I thought that was the point of this thread.

What exactly is your opinion? You think this is good, progressive, inclusive? what?

jellyfrizz · 18/05/2023 12:25

I believe let clothes be clothes, as long as everyone is decent then I don't have a problem with men being more covered up than usual at the swimming pool.

A one piece is a more traditional swimsuit for men anyway. Google vintage men's swimwear. Here is Ernest Hemingway having a dip.

Robinonmybirdfeeder · 18/05/2023 12:27

I’m confused. Is this made to fit a man’s body or a woman’s body? I wouldn’t buy it if I saw that picture ( apart from it being ugly) because I would assume it was made to fit a man and therefore would not fit my female body. One of the most fitted items of clothing you can buy is a swimsuit, it can’t fit men and women?

jellyfrizz · 18/05/2023 12:27

Maybe you could explain your problem with it?

fajitaaa · 18/05/2023 12:29

Yeah no one is going to actually buy it but it makes the brand feel good

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/05/2023 12:32

Ernest's suit is actually quite unisex. Women could wear it (I like it because it's nice and covering) and it stops his cock and balls from falling out.

The Adidas one just looks like it's designed for a woman although a man is wearing it.

Actually, he looks like he's wearing an incontinence pad in it.

Robinonmybirdfeeder · 18/05/2023 12:45

Even Ernest’s must be cut for a man though so wouldn’t fit a woman properly

MoggyMittens23 · 18/05/2023 12:48

@jellyfrizz no, what's your opinion on a man wearing a swimming costume being in the women's section of the adidas website?

@jellyfrizz are you being deliberately obtuse? Do you think I have a problem with this man wearing a 'vintage man's swimming costume'? 😐

SirChenjins · 18/05/2023 12:49

As always, equality means 'male in female space'. Interestingly (not really) there are no women modelling any costumes in the male section.

Quite why they don't have a unisex section I don't know - that way, they don't have to tie themselves up in knots trying to justify the rainbow.

booksandbrooks · 18/05/2023 12:55

This doesn't bother me at all. It's entirely different from the Nike campaign.

Sports bras are as much, if not more equipment as fashion and it was DM's performance of 'lady sports' that was offensive. It took something that many women need and used it frivolously whilst mocking women's sports/ athleticism.

Part of my GC beliefs are that clothes shouldn't be gendered or categorised by sex. Toilets yes. Refuges yes. GG yes. Fashion nope.

There's also a woman in the men's section as this swimsuit and the plus size version are in both sections. And there are some 'gender neutral' swim shorts modelled by both a male and female.

Yes, this is similar to my view.

No, I'm genuinely not. I don't understand what your problem with it is. Which is why I asked you to explain.

Is it because it shows up in a search for both women's and men's? Would you be ok with it if it were just in the men's? Or if they showed a man & a woman wearing it?

The same swimsuit (supposedly promoting equality) is not being advertised by a woman in the men's section.

jellyfrizz · 18/05/2023 13:06

The plus size version of the same swimsuit is in the men's section modelled by a woman with no equivalent male model:

jellyfrizz · 18/05/2023 13:07

Woman modelling Pride swimsuit in men's section

jellyfrizz · 18/05/2023 13:08

Although I agree, it doesn't look like it offers much support. I would rather buy one made for a female body.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/05/2023 13:16

I want Mrs Durrell's swimsuit from My Family and Other Animals (the one I imagined from the book).

334bu · 18/05/2023 13:29

I see what you mean jellyfish. That swimsuit is obviously not designed to be worn by a woman. Appalling fit.

Yes I think they've just "tagged" it to appear in both sections
