I don’t know what is next on this but if it means a vote Starmer will have to get off that splintery fence and decide

EmotionalSupportHyena · 05/04/2023 08:47

Clarification, in case the above sounded patronising 😬

Kemi is young in terms of leaders of political parties - she’s 43 so definitely a proper grown up - just still has plenty of time to realise any leadership ambitions (Sunak is 42 but Starmer is 60 and Corbyn was what, 66 when he won the Labour leadership?)

twitterexile · 05/04/2023 08:47

I think it comes from the left primarily. Any woman who dares not to toe the line is a Nazi according to them. She is also - very inconveniently for them - black and right wing . They particularly hate anyone who is black and espouses the wrong sort of politics.

Violetparis · 05/04/2023 08:56

I've posted on another thread about this, the Labour MP, Steve Reed was very clear on Times Radio this morning that he supports this move. It will be very interesting to see how Keir Starmer and other Labour MPs respond.

EmotionalSupportHyena · 05/04/2023 09:04

Good for Steve Reed!

Hopefully all politicians doing the news interview circuit today will be asked about it.

EmotionalSupportHyena · 05/04/2023 08:39

She’s young, I reckon she’ll be leader one day.

Bit of a tangent but it keeps the thread bumped…

I wonder if the smearing of Kemi as ‘far right of the party’ came from outside or within the Tory ranks?
Just thinking about how the Head Girls of Feminism were the initial source of the smears transactivists use against Posie…perhaps the mischaracterisation of Kemi also started with her own side? She’s very popular with the ordinary Tory membership and with non Tory normies - that’s probably gained her a few jealous enemies within the Old-Boys-Proper-Schools-Billionaire-Tories?

(New name - same old cryptofascistwomble, btw!)

She's older than Sunak, isn't she?

I heard Kemi talking about her career in a speech a few years ago and she said she has had overwhelming support from her party. It's the left who have been consistently racist and tried to keep her out of politics. She told some stories about things that were said to her and it was honestly shocking.

The left love to use racism as a stick to beat people with but as soon as a black woman with the "wrong" opinions steps forward they line up to destroy her.

Rubyrubyrubeee · 05/04/2023 09:23

What's her views on gay marriage and abortion ?

ilovesooty · 05/04/2023 09:27

Rubyrubyrubeee · 05/04/2023 09:23

What's her views on gay marriage and abortion ?

And her view on sending asylum seekers to Rwanda?

And the persistent underfunding of schools and its ongoing effect on children?

Obviously if she can define a woman nothing else matters to her or her fans.

AHyenaofMN · 05/04/2023 09:34

It is actually possible to agree with someone on one issue, and - wait for it - disagree on another!

I appreciate this is an unfashionable truth these days.

No. We must sit tight and wait for a Labour government to Do This The Correct Way. The Pure Way. The Way Menz Decide.

Rubyrubyrubeee · 05/04/2023 09:42

@AHyenaofMN I agree. But when I see a party whose period in government has been disastrous, using a hot topic to stoke tension and garner votes ( Brexit anyone ?)
I'd be wary..
And why are Sunak's comments believed and Starmers' mocked ?
Not as if Sunak has ever expressed any kind of view on this until the tories were becoming unelectable.

Even if she's against gay marriage and abortion, she has zero chance of rolling back legislation on those subjects, because a majority of the population disagrees with her.

On the subject in question, that sex means biological sex in equality legislation, the majority of the population agrees with her.

That would be the difference.

That's interesting. I've just posted on another thread that the Sex Matters petition proposed this as a piece of secondary legislation, which I believe means it can be put through by the minister concerned. This short Twitter thread explains it and links to the Sex Matters document:

But if it does end up in parliament, or gets dragged out so long that it becomes an election discussion point, then Labour will have to make it clear exactly where they stand. So I wouldn't be surprised if they'd be quite happy for it to be done outside of parliament as then they could tell their TRA supporters it was nothing to do with them.

@ResisterRex Don't get your comment ?
What's the 'pure way' ? The Way Menz Decide...
It's not all about the tranz womenz getting into womens loos. Life doesn't revolve round this single issue as it does for you.

Exactly. They're throwing everything at this in the same way as Johnson's election campaign was spearheaded by Brexit. This is a failed government running out of ammunition. I doubt whether they care about women any more than any other party though I'll admit that Badenoch probably does have some personal conviction (while probably not giving any more of a fuck about wider humanity than any other Tory).

Then you won't mind a simple administrative change to protect women as a sex class.

Of course. Apologies, I forgot about the Wrong Side of History and avoiding THAT at all costs. Imagine! You might think you were on the Right Side and then find out you'd accidentally agreed with someone awful, and thereby become Tainted and Stained by Wrongness.

ResisterRex · 05/04/2023 09:53

Too late for me. Already Tainted and Stained. Stained, I tell you!

<faints>

beastlyslumber · 05/04/2023 09:53

Ffs. Yes the tories are evil and don't give a fuck about humanity. That's not a puerile way to look at politics at all, is it? No, it's a perfectly fine way to understand a complex system of government... if you're four.

AHyenaofMN · 05/04/2023 09:53

This is indeed a mere administrative tweak.

It will protect women's safety, privacy and dignity and also ensure that transmen have all the rights they may need - maternity rights, for example.

Surely Stonewall et al want to ensure transmen have protection should they become pregnant?

Yes, that makes sense. Especially in conjunction with Kier's comments about it not being a priority and the public not talking about it.

He can ignore the entire thing and thank fuck that it will all get sorted out by someone else, so his hands are clean, before he has to hold the hot potato himself.

That's not taking Posie into the equation, tho.

@Floisme I’ve always said a clarification like this could be done quickly in parliamentary terms.

Do feel free to tell me how the Tories have looked after humanity over the past 13 years and how women have been better off under their watch.
