Don't consider it, Kemi, please DO IT!

Does Kemi stand up for all women including refugees, single mothers, homeless women? The Tories are gaslighting feminists, throwing us red meat while ignoring urgent and pressing issues that affect women every day. They don't care about women or anyone who's not privileged, but let's keep clapping our hands because they "know what a woman is", eh?
They are vile.

Kemi isn’t Rishi Tory posh. She’s not Oxbridge.

Her mum and dad were both in medical fields, she went to a normal school, worked part time in McDonalds, has been a school governor of an inner city primary school and sat on the board of a Housing Association.

Her political influences are Thomas Sowell (the famous African American conservative economist) and Roger Scruton (traditional conservative philosopher who was famously skeptical about unbridled capitalism)

People mischaracterise Kemi as far right but her social conservatism is fairly normal Christian stuff.

You can look up her voting record on the .gov website.

(I’m not fangirling from memory, btw, I just looked at her wiki page)

Am I allowed to admit I have just the slightest crush on Kemi?

Ah so, when we look at actual facts and evidence it seems she is yet another woman smeared as far right with lies.

There's a pattern emerging

dimorphism · 04/04/2023 18:05

However, it would result in a “transfer” of rights in some areas from trans women to trans men, such as equal pay, direct sex discrimination and indirect sex discrimination

So it will result in benefits for some trans people too. I wonder how they're going to square that circle with the TRAs wailing about this. Unless of course transmen don't matter as much as transwomen. Now why could that possibly be??

Thank you for this info. Interesting that she gets smeared as far right - there seems to be a pattern emerging.

Or, what dimorphism said!

Foreversearch · 04/04/2023 18:09

@dimorphism you beat me to it.

It poses a difficult question to Stonewall and TRAs etc. why do you not want transmen to receive these benefits?

They are vile.

Without a definition of ‘woman’ as biological female, the refugees will be sharing dormitories with men, the single mothers will be told to take a job waxing someone’s lady-balls and the homeless women will be discussing their sexual abuse trauma in mixed-sex groups.

An ability to define women is foundational. If we cannot say what a woman is in law, how can we use the law to tackle ‘urgent and pressing issues’ that affect women?

QueenHippolyta · 04/04/2023 18:13

If Kemi has a gay older sister; she's mine:)

StellaAndCrow · 04/04/2023 18:15

"She said the need had become more pressing following moves in Scotland to make it easier for transgender people to gain legal recognition"

(Presumably that means legal recognition as the opposite sex/as non-binary, as they'd have already had legal recognition as people)

So maybe the over reach of the gender ideology lobby is coming home to roost? Dentons play book finally exposed.

Yes, it's the most vulnerable women in society who are most harmed by gender ideology, those that can't make choices to avoid places and situations
e.g. prisons, shelters, hostels.

StellaAndCrow · 04/04/2023 18:19

I'm being hard of thinking. Could someone please explain why making it clear that sex means biological sex would potentially disadvantage transwomen in areas such as equal pay?
Thank you.

LlynTegid · 04/04/2023 18:21

Don't hold your hopes up too high that anything will actually happen. Though at least we now have a government that is led by someone who has some respect for women, so the chances are greater than when Boris Johnson the serial misogynist who ill-treated many women was in number 10.

I suppose she might still be a closeted Nazi-of-Nigerian descent but it seems unlikely.

Presumably an EDL membership application from a woman called ‘Olukemi Olufunto Adegoke’ would’ve gone straight in the bin?

Yeah they're just wailing about the effect on transwomen over on Twitter as per.

YouTarzan · 04/04/2023 18:31

Fucking brilliant!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 04/04/2023 18:42

Some positive news - if it actually happens.

zen1 · 04/04/2023 18:50

Good ideas in principle, but in the time that it takes this to be ‘considered’, the Tories will probably be voted out of office. We need some action now.

I think the EHRC have shown that they are interested in pursuing this positively.

I wonder, in fact, if Kemi writing to them like this is just a formality and the decision is already made. I very much hope so.

Thank you.

Equal pay is normally about finding a comparator of the opposite sex.

  • first prove you are doing work of equal value. Analytical job evaluation is usually the tool used to compare 2 very different jobs.
  • find a comparator of opposite sex I.e. female worker needs a male comparator, a male worker needs a female comparator.
So clarifying sex means biological sex means a transman, like a women, can use a man as a comparator. However, it conversely means a transwoman’s comparator would be a woman.

As men are frequently paid higher than women a transwoman could lose out.

But that letter and all the issues it clearly sets out isn't going away.

The issues for women and for equality for women aren't going away, they're getting bigger, and louder. They are going to have to be faced. Things as they stand do not work for women as a sex class, and it's not ok.

ScrollingLeaves · 04/04/2023 20:11

What a relief that she properly understands there is a problem with the present laws.

You cannot defend single mothers, female refugees etc if you cannot define them.

Lovecleansheets · 04/04/2023 20:14

Fantastic news. Signals a genuine understanding that clarity is needed.
