A Mumsnet thread about a book about a Mumsnet thread “Under the Duvet of Darkness” written by the women of Mumsnet

For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

https://amzn.eu/d/98aEnJy

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

MONEY FROM SALES:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.*

*Please note that whilst the profit will be donated to For Women Scotland they are not involved, nor are they responsible in any way for the themes, contents or publication of this book.

Right I'm getting twitchy about the number of posts left on this. I'm going to go and create a new thread before I go to bed as I'll forget tomorrow. I don't do this often I hate doing it!

Please don't have a sudden rush of chatter I need to link when I'm done creating. If I don't same title Thread 2.

I'll spend the next half an hour trying to remember how to create a thread!

We're going to need a new thread for the Kindle edition soon... :o)

Hopefully if I've done this right!

Someone may have done this one. It’s based on the famous poem by Martin Niemoller. About the silencing of German intellectuals and subsequent incremental purging of their chosen targets, group after group.

Having only been aware and gender critical less than a year I may have got the order wrong. And I feel the need to preface with I didn’t speak out because I was unaware not because I wasn’t one of the groups. But I think the parallels with history need highlighting and there is something in this poem:

First they came for the LGB, and I did not speak out—
 Because I was not LGB.
Then they came for the universities and I did not speak out—
Because I was not at university.
Then they came for the children, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a child.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Now I've finished pratting around I've just gone back up to read the bits I missed.

I think a lot of people are still unaware of how bad things have got. But once you see you can't go back.

ooh. I don't think anyone has done that one. Another tho add to the collection 🤗

Well it is a book about women. A lot of us do have cats so...a whole chapter in Volume two about our cats? There might have to be witchy references or talk of poor fluffy having his knackers cut off to keep it on sort of topic!

But I could live with a cat related chapter. I mean we also get called catty and think of the connotations to the word pussy!

Just looked at the dashboard, and another copy snuck out of the warehouse whilst I was doing other things.

I really do have to go to bed now.

The cat is staring at me in a menacing manner. I'm late with his night time treats.

Goodnight

It's over. it's finished.
This thread is now dead
But your words will live on
They'll be published and read.

(Apparently according to FairyKindleMother it gets easier after the first one!)

☝It made a change from the sort of books I usually have to deal with.

Even witches want everything as e-books these days!

Goodnight all.

Still waiting for e-book to get out of the review stage. In the mean time join us on the new thread where there is news about our current reprieve off the naughty step. And we're still after many new poems.
