For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

https://amzn.eu/d/98aEnJy

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

MONEY FROM SALES:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.*

*Please note that whilst the profit will be donated to For Women Scotland they are not involved, nor are they responsible in any way for the themes, contents or publication of this book.

“It’s not hate to defend your rights, and it’s not hate to speak the truth.”

If you can find a friend or relative with a nice big tv and a subscription it's on disney plus (just FYI) - it is cool live as well.

Alas I know of no one with either of those things! I'm sure I will see it eventually somewhere somehow! 🙂

Just letting you know beetle that the copies have finally arrived by hand delivery. You have done a great job, and they are certainly not pamphlet like at all as I thought they might be. Brilliant job, and now historical documents too.

Valentines Day Love GIF by Digital Pratik

@Ramblingnamechanger It definitely looks different as a book than it did as the pdf that you saw many weeks bloody hell, months ago doesn't it! I was surprised when I got the original proof!

Glad you like it. And again thank you for making the suggestion of doing something with the poems. If you hadn't made that comment the book wouldn't exist at all.

Boiledbeetle · 25/05/2023 00:48

E-book news.....

I've just received a completed file (that's got the bonus poems attached). 😀

I've got to go through and check it all. So there's still a bit of toing and froing between me and the lovely anonymous mumsnetter to do yet. But having just had a look through its so very very close.

I'm hoping within days...... (Please don't let me have just jinxed it)

Righthandcider · 25/05/2023 06:34

its because it's been deemed an 'adult' book and is therefore not shown on a general search. So you have to make sure you select books as a department to search. Then it will appear!

TOO MANY FUCKEN SWEARS IN IT

SinnerBoy · 25/05/2023 10:55

What is this strange and unknown "too many swears" of which you speak? Is it kin to "leftover wine," perchance?

RealFeminist · 25/05/2023 11:09

AYE HENCE THE GREAT BURNS POEM 'DOES YER MAW DRINK WINE DOES SHE DRINK IT AW THE TIME'

Ourladycheesusedatum · 25/05/2023 11:24

Ooh this thread is bumpity bumped.

Good to hear more copies have been sold. I hold out much hope that my review brings in many more buyers.

And what is this mysterious too many swears or leftover wine. No such thing exists.

RealFeminist · 25/05/2023 13:30

DOES YER DA DRINK GIN DOES HE DRINK IT OOT THE BIN

Boiledbeetle · 25/05/2023 13:59

Now i don't know who wrote which review but this reviewer had nice things to say about the editing 😍.

I also think wee Nicola has moved onto the top shelf drinks judging by the posts above!

Sales wise it has been slow, it's currently on 11 this month. But any sales are better than none.

Which reminds me It's the last day of the Haldane Court justice thingy I think.

Yep less than 24 hours to go and currently at £43,236
