A Mumsnet thread about a book about a Mumsnet thread “Under the Duvet of Darkness” written by the women of Mumsnet

For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

https://amzn.eu/d/98aEnJy

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

Not all poems were used. Because of the nature of the topics we were writing about I didn’t feel comfortable including poems without being in contact with the writer first. Some users had left Mumsnet. Some users don’t have PMs switched on. Some users don’t check their PMs! and some poems were deleted.

Gaun yersel Beetle 🥳

It was, for a short while, No 66 in the Feminist Criticism chart.

I like that the author is ‘boiled beetle’ 😂

ArcaneWireless · 02/04/2023 14:54

66?

Almost a best seller 😉

Boiledbeetle · 02/04/2023 15:04

@SinnerBoy 😀 It might be written by women for women but I'm more than happy if men want to put their hand in their pocket! (Unless it's like buying a Bros album and you make your sister buy it!)

I like that the author is ‘boiled beetle’ 😂

But...That's my name! 😎

@ArcaneWireless I'm currently trying to find a book category that's only got 1 or 2 books in it. Then I can change its category and get it to No. 1!

I like your way of thinking, Boiled, sounds like a plan 😎

Boiledbeetle · 02/04/2023 15:15

@Dodecaheidyin it is proving difficult. There are some very obscure subject books out there.

Lovely, Boiled, thank you. 15 is my new favourite number 😊

Will see if I can come up with any ideas for obscure book categories while I'm out with the dog.

Vebrithien · 02/04/2023 15:29

Looking forward to my copy arriving (Tuesday, apparently)

Boiledbeetle · 02/04/2023 15:29

SinnerBoy · 02/04/2023 15:37

Bros? Perish the thought!

I was quite happy to buy my own Etta James, Donna Summer and Nina Simone albums!

Brilliant! Love this! Thanks for all your work on this Beetz. Looking forward to receiving my copy!!

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 02/04/2023 16:11

Just ordered my copy to Canada! (…the import tax costs as much as the book itself. Oh well.) Very excited to read the poems from what sounds like a legendary thread that I somehow missed.

ArcaneWireless · 02/04/2023 16:14

Your “purple” poem is the first one I will be showing to my mam beastly.

It was a masterpiece. 🤩

DOBARDAN · 02/04/2023 16:19

Fantastic idea and well done on your achievement in getting published,
Does feghoot help, as an obscure book category?

Pixiedust1234 · 02/04/2023 16:19

What a lovely thing to do. I'm so proud to "know" you all ❤

DialSquare · 02/04/2023 16:20

Well done Boiled! Copy ordered.

I always knew I'd be famous. Just never thought it would be for a shit limerick!

Britinme · 02/04/2023 16:27

Any chance of getting a Kindle version out, @Boiledbeetle ? I don't begrudge the £7.50 but I don't fancy the postage to the USA.
