For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

I'm one of those! I've found these thread so incredibly logical and informative. I often buy recommended books and do a bit of gardening.

That's really good to hear. I suspect there are many like you.

I'm one who needs to tread cautiously for fear of alienation young adult family members. My quietly terven self is beginning to make a breakthrough, thanks to quiet persistence on my part and sense and solidarity from my anonymous friends here ♥ I don't doubt that I am one of many!

It’s arriving on Thursday, according to Amazon - can’t wait! Thanks, beetle for your hard work.

Just had a conversation with my fella. He'd seen I ordered a book and asked me what 'wheesht' meant. So I told him, 'shut up'. Now he's sulking.

Send them all copies of our poems, anonymously! I mean Amazon usually leave the gift slip out anyway even when you write long loving notes. You can deny all knowledge. Tell them the Gender Critical fairy replaces the tooth fairy as they get older!

@UtopiaPlanitia and there's no guarantee your opinion of poetry will have changed by the end of the book!

Just trying to mange your expectations!

If anyone can get me to like poetry it’s the witty and intelligent vipers of Mumsnet 😎

Best of luck with the book Beetle, I will add it to my ever expanding Bookshelf of Terfery (current denizens of which are Helen Joyce, Hannah Barnes, Victoria Smith, Mary Harrington, Louise Perry, John McWhorter etc etc)

Have you broken the news yet to @Suffrajester that his mum is a published poet?

Mine has arrived!

Absolutely fantastic - well done for all your hard work Beetle

Mine too - excellent work Boiled! Hopefully FWS will make a decent amount from the folly of the GRR Act.

RealFeminist · 02/04/2023 18:49

AS YOUS KNOW I LIKE BOOKS BUT SOME OF THESE ARE RUDE.

TheBiologyStupid · 02/04/2023 18:49

ComradeIcakethereforeIam · 02/04/2023 16:53

Will it fit through a letterbox? I'm on holiday and I want to order it NOW!!

So it's waiting when I get home.

Definitely. A "slim volume" to quote PG Wodehouse on poetry publications.

Well Nicola, that's what happens when you let men in the women's toilets.

Boiledbeetle, Suffrajester and I were busy filming an episode of “his” Youtube blog, “Days of Boyhood” today. “He” is very conflicted to know “he”is applauded on MN, and is appalled at his mother’s terven leanings!
I think the episode is quite funny - I was channeling my inner June Whitfield, who played Edina’s bemused, no nonsense mother on Ab Fab - and “Chad” (Suffrajester’s transboy identity) was whining at me for being a Nazi Terf…
We needed three takes as we kept corpsing, but I think DD’s editing skills will produce something out of the chaos!
It might be a stand alone episode, or used as part of a longer send up of Dylan Mulvaney’s musical. Mr Menno has agreed to provide a rendition of “You’re Always a Woman to Me”, which should infuriate Chad!

But it identifies as a 500 page novel!

I look forward to the episode!

Although I'm looking forward more to the imaginary episode in my head where Chad discovers his mum's stash of terf porn poems

Well this is wonderful news!
This is what you were editing Boiled whilst petitioning, gifing and overlord tending!

Yeah! it would have been done weeks ago if I'd got off my arse instead of taking many many screen shots of petition maps!. There is a chapter in there with poems that were on a previous petition thread!
