For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

https://amzn.eu/d/98aEnJy

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

I've just ordered it. If Amazon suddenly starts making loads of recommendations for feghoot (whatever that is) I'll know what's going on. Should see it in a few days when I'm back 😁

Thank you for putting in my last one.

My mam loves that poem. Or the original of it anyway. I hope she likes my version. 😬🥴

Mam loved it beastly - she is now busy reading everything else!
She doesn’t know who I am. But she knows I’m there!

please note the appropriately coloured scarf my own copy is on.

Thank you beetle 😘

What a lovely scarf you have complimenting your book! Do you think your mum will work out who you are? My sister worked out I was also WomenofExtremes when the book was still in a very early version.

It's interesting to know just how many women are supporting from the side lines by buying books like these.
I'm also not worried about you finding out who I am. I'm only in danger of being overindulged (if there is such a thing) with cake from you!

I'm one of those! I've found these thread so incredibly logical and informative. I often buy recommended books and do a bit of gardening.

There are some very late additions after I had to remove some so I was very glad of your last poem! Poem 78 is a joy to read!

This is brilliant beastly. How did I miss these threads?

It mainly took place over Christmas and New Year. Then normal life resumed and it disappeared into thread purgatory.

Wot, @RealFeminist are you not!? A travesty.

Probably be sorted in vol.2.

That's really good to hear. I suspect there are many like you.

I couldn't get you to sit still long enough to take the photograph!

But don't worry hen, there is mention of you in the Amazon blurb!

🤣

I’m not sure how I posted two photos. I’m a technical dunce 🤡

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 02/04/2023 17:31

brilliant!

copy ordered Smile

MoonOverBroadway · 02/04/2023 17:35

Ordered!

You lot are the best 🥰

ArcaneWireless · 02/04/2023 17:38

I don’t know beetle

I’ve said that she has 3 guesses and if she gets me I will admit it. She knows I am not beastlyslumber because I enthused about the poem at the time. And she knows I’m not that good!

She will probably think I will be shouty but not sweary as I mind my language at home (mostly).

If she doesn’t guess then she can forever ponder!

I’m just reading now too and it is marvellous.

Brava to beetle and all 😘

So, as I'm a bugger for putting other people's tweets on threads. I have joined the twittersphere.. The thought of doing an Ed Balls did stop me for a long time. Anyway here's my first tweet!. I will admit one of the likes is.....Myself! I'm still working out what all the buttons do!

I'm not on Twitter. I'll give you a like here instead!

Bought a copy 👍(and I don’t even like poetry 😬😜) but I had to click on the book url given in previous posts in order to find the book. For some reason the book didn’t show up in search results on Amazon when I searched by the title 🤷‍♀️🤔

I know I don't know why!

If you select books as a department rather than just searching on the title across all departments it comes up.

I suspect it's because it contains adult content!

@UtopiaPlanitia and there's no guarantee your opinion of poetry will have changed by the end of the book!

Just trying to mange your expectations!

twitter is a strange and terrible place. you will just have to put up with my admiration here!

ComradeIcakethereforeIam · 02/04/2023 17:56

Just had a conversation with my fella. He'd seen I ordered a book and asked me what 'wheesht' meant. So I told him, 'shut up'. Now he's sulking.
