For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

https://amzn.eu/d/98aEnJy

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

MONEY FROM SALES:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.*

*Please note that whilst the profit will be donated to For Women Scotland they are not involved, nor are they responsible in any way for the themes, contents or publication of this book.

Mine still arrive on Tuesday Grin
I have asked it to be sent to Amazon Locker at Morrison's so I can pick it up and get a nice wine to have while reading it!

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 02/04/2023 23:46

I missed the thread too, love the samples on here.

I will order tomorrow when I can compile a full list of who I want to buy it for!

For Women Scotland have tweeted about it which should help sales!

Only read the first page of the thread, but ordered a couple of copies, that's great work, @Boiledbeetle .

Boiledbeetle · 03/04/2023 00:51

@Ramblingnamechanger whichever site you use they all have the same issue it doesn't appear in a general search. You have to select BOOKS in the department drop down.drop

This is all your fault you know! You started this!

Right, I'm off to bed. If I wake up tomorrow and this is just a dream and I'm back at the checking my apostrophes are all the same type (all 366 of them) I will not be happy!

I am not accepting any responsibility…. It is all your own doing Boiled!

Boiledbeetle · 03/04/2023 02:54

Unsurprisingly I can't sleep. I feel like a 5 year old that found the fizzy drinks and sweet cupboard left unattended!

Do whilst I was still awake I thought I'd just have a quick look quick

no 2 in poetry best sellers

My copy has been dispatched 🤗

My anticipatory offering...

"And women, fair women, will not take this lying down.
She'll cover her careworn face with an obligatory frown.

"Let Women Speak!" Our voices raise, we will not cease the cry,
Men can't be us, life giving ones, no matter how they try.

Though we be silenced, scared and harmed, us Women say our "NO"
No ladydick, no male and prick, in our safe spaces, NO!"

RaininginDarling · 03/04/2023 07:41

No! Shuddup! YOU'RE reading this thread to the Top of the Pops countdown tune!

Boiledbeetle · 03/04/2023 07:51

I'd like to put in a complaint...

Now don't get me wrong No. 2 in poetry...fantastic!. Wonderful! Amazing! But....
The number one spot in poetry is currently held by a crime novel identifying as poetry.
