At some point after 2pm, in the Big Room (the Chamber).

www.parliament.scot/chamber-and-committees/whats-on-and-watch-live/whats-on#wm

Will be interesting to see how the Amendments go down, if they are all struck down as the ScotGov wishes - www.holyrood.com/news/view,gender-recognition-reform-crunch-vote-after-shona-robison-warns-msps-over-amendments

'the Scottish Conservatives have warned that the debate could lead to a "travesty of democracy" because a 15 minute time limit for each proposal will "shut down" discussion.'

Is Maggie Chapman English? Sounds it.

So sorry about her, Scotland. Don't want her back though.

She is English. She came to Scotland to study geography at edinburgh. Did a PhD in something right on and environmental.

How can 61 people have voted to rpotect sex offenders but not protect women & girls

Shame on every one of them.

BedTaker · 20/12/2022 19:15

Skyellaskerry · 20/12/2022 19:14

Shame on every one of them.

I know. Imagine thinking 'yep, I need to vote in favour of protecting sex offenders, even though I know that this could harm women and girls'.

What is wrong with these people?!

ArabellaScott · 20/12/2022 19:16

Ooh, Shona Robison saying she has to strike down the Amendment because it risks the whole Bill being struck down/end up in court.

'If you suport this legislation you shoudl be concerned about putting barriers in'

Don't you mean shit show?

ArabellaScott · 20/12/2022 19:17

Voting now on asylum seekers being able to access GRCs. I missed the actual wording of the Amendment.

This is absolutely shameful. So angry and disappointed in our MSPs.

ArabellaScott · 20/12/2022 19:24

'Russell Findlay had proposed amendments to the legislation to protect women and girls and to "stop sex offenders from being able to exploit Nicola Sturgeon's self-ID bill".

After they were voted down, he tweeted: "A member of the public objected to the SNP voting down my amendments to stop sex offenders exploiting self-ID. However the entire gallery is now being cleared. Women who were silent say they’re being threatened with arrest if they don’t get out. Utterly disgraceful."'

Actually checking she’s not English. She was born in Zimbabwe (back before it was called Zimbabwe). and presumably is a UK citizen and identifies as Scottish.

Does have a PhD in something worthy on the human end of geography though.

pepperminttaste · 20/12/2022 19:26

It's awful. I cannot describe how angry and frustrated I am at this. I really wish there was a much wider audience to the actual discussion (as opposed to the headlines/articles).

And thanks @ArabellaScott for all of this. Much appreciated.

Rightsraptor · 20/12/2022 19:26

Thanks Yummy.

I've got a spare bedroom in England for Scottish refugees from this shit show. You must be female, mind. Using the English definition of the word.

GrouchyKiwi · 20/12/2022 19:28

I can't stomach watching the "debate" so I appreciate the updates here.

I am so angry that so many MSPs are utterly craven in this matter.

I am extra glad today that we home educate our three daughters.

Skyellaskerry · 20/12/2022 19:28

Is there ANYTHING that can stop this horror?

ArabellaScott · 20/12/2022 19:30

I am having a pretty long break from typing! Sorry. I won't be able to do it all night.

Now discussing Amendments about support and information for those applying for GRCs.

Woman describing that safeguards are being taken away.

This is a recurring theme.

Shame on every one of them.

Absolutely. Made me feel sick listening to Chapman. But then they, Sturgeon and the rest of them, already showed they don't give a crap about women prisoners or rape victims.

Give it all away Nicola why don't you? Furious.

ArtfullyCrumpled · 20/12/2022 19:36

Cowards way out is "I would have voted no". To those who were too late. Disgraceful.

ArabellaScott · 20/12/2022 19:36

Skyellaskerry · 20/12/2022 19:28

Is there ANYTHING that can stop this horror?

Probably Westminster. And legal challenges. With any luck, it'll take down the whole GRA.

Yes, this is certainly letting the sunlight in!

I would imagine most normal people would look at MSPs voting against Russell Findlays amendment and be like WTAF?!

ArabellaScott · 20/12/2022 19:47

Okay, I have given up. Sorry, there may be more happening but my brain has hit a wall. I agree with the people at teh beginning that said that hours and hours of pressured debate is not a good way to make legislation.
