R4 Brain of Britain "All Women Final"

Did anyone else hear the loud applause of the audience at the declaration this was a first for the competition - an 'all women" line up for the final?

I would be more than happy to applaud an all women final, but clapping a finalist line of 3 women and a TW just makes me ask, why?!

Oh - missed it today. Will have to listen on catch up.

Agree. I listen to Brain of Britain occasionally - clearly someone has no brains. A TW is not a woman and thus it is not an all-women final.

SereneSemolina · 21/11/2022 19:21

@TottersBlankly listening is what gives it all away.

It just feels so deliberate, so gaslighty, such a "I dare you to say anything" thing to do - announcing it's 'all women - a record!' and clearly inviting supportive applause from the audience.

Applauding the finalists would be great, I'd join in with that.

did they actually state one of the contestants was a TW?

SereneSemolina · 21/11/2022 21:20

No. They said they were all women.

I always check when I see anything that’s a ‘woman’ list/ lineup/ competition etc. It’s generally disappointing.

ChimChimeny · 21/11/2022 21:26

We usually have a TW speaker at a work event for international women's day, I've not had the guts to say anything yet but I'm tempted

Maybe ask if next year there could be an exemption and work could have an actual woman speaker (for a change)?

An aside. This article came up when googling the contestants. (The TW on Brain of Britain has been on loads of quizzes and seems to do really well - really impressive!)

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/a-brutal-choice-change-sex-or-kill-yourself-f8cpstwkvlb

A couple of lines from this article (from 2014) are really interesting, some arguments have been going on a long time!

"In Britain, there is a furore about prescribing drugs that temporarily block the onset of puberty to gender-confused children as young as ten. It sounds like meddling medical insanity until you read how postponing dreaded secondary sexual characteristics reduces the horrific suicide rate."

And this shows how the numbers have really changed, many teachers report far higher numbers than then -

"in a school of 1,000 pupils that means five children will feel that their biological sex and the gender they identify with do not correspond"

Is this another one of those threads where an OP starts off on one trans related issue and goes off at a tangent about something else to seemingly make some kind of point about trans people while random posters drop in to post about how trans people are vulnerable etc etc etc

See also To ask HOW he/they or she/they works? where a lesbian is asking about how to use pronouns correctly because she is concerned the pronoun police will be after her which seems a bit unlikely tbh.

nauticant · 21/11/2022 22:22

That article was by Janice Turner. A lot has happened in 8 years, the extreme demands and actions by trans activists, and in pulling back the curtain to looking into that, people realising that much of what was said by authority figures and was thus accepted without challenge, turned out to be misinformation.

Just putting this here for everyone who wants the word women to mean, in law, actual women of the adult human female variety. Please sign and share and ask those you share with to keep sharing.

Eh what @BloodyHellKen ?!

I posted because I listened to the radio in the car, heard the announcement that it was an all women final on Brain of Britain, and proceeded to be sceptical that what had been loudly celebrated as a first for the competition was true, based on the voices I was hearing. I googled the contestants to see if it was, indeed a first all women line up and found it wasn't.

I shared that here and then googled a bit more, and shared the but if that that stood out for me too. Admittedly it was a segue but not one that needed a rant I don't think. And I was trying to ensure I did not place undue focus or attention on the individuals and more around the issues and how they made me feel. HTH.

I've seen it referred to on social media as an "all-female" final and that has wound me up too.

SnapeAlways · 22/11/2022 00:09

I listened to that in the car but missed the beginning.

I’m glad to see a post here because I was wondering the same thing, as the voice was definitely male but when they read out the names at the end of each round, they were all female.

I meant to Google but forgot. It was very misleading and I can imagine some of the older listeners getting very confused.

The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command

NewLightbulbs · 22/11/2022 00:35

Anything advertised as "all female" these days, automatically means there's men who identify as trans are included.

It seems to be to emphasise that women are not allowed to have anything to ourselves. Women are not allowed to have nice things. They must be forced to give them to men. All in a spirit of diversity and inclusion and equality, of course.

Idiot..... or bigot.

I've been at a few of the Rugby League World Cup games and they were all women.
