Guidance for Scotland’s biggest health board also says that any woman who complains about a transwoman sharing their ward should be advised that “the ward is indeed female-only and that there are no men present”

So any woman that complains about a MAN sharing their single sex ward should be gaslighted and fed lies so that the man doesn't get hurt feelings.
Just like the woman who was sexually assaulted by a man on a female ward.

Women aren't allowed boundaries from members of the opposite sex.

They're taking the word female too.

The worst is that they are forcing staff to outright lie to women. The thought of being vulnerable and asking staff for what you need for your own comfort and feeling of safety, dignity and privacy, to be faced with that abusive response is about as bad as it gets.

This is institutionalised gas lighting. It's absolutely unforgivable that women should be put through this.

Report
TrainedByCats · 13/11/2022 22:19

Surely lying like this violates code of ethics?

Report
ArabellaScott · 13/11/2022 22:29

I would say so. It violates all moral codes to place the desires of a male above the safety of women.

Awaiting the new rules if no shutting bed curtains as it's mean and 'shutting them out'

They already do this.
On the maternity ward, which has men there all day, the staff kept pulling my curtains open when I had closed them to try and establish breastfeeding and have some privacy.
Short staffed so curtains needed to be open to keep an eye on us, so no privacy from all the men on the ward. Even when they were helping me get the baby to latch, so I'm sitting there topless, they kept the curtains open. I was 22 when I had my first and just didnt have the confidence to speak up.

They did it when it was actual men. They're definitely going to do it with trans women in the ward.

A medical institution misusing the word ‘female’ that way would be undermining its own credibility and integrity..

We know that one woman has already paid a terrible price for these appalling lies:

Not a single care about the accessibility for people who need clear, simple language, is there?

Much more important not to hurt the feelings of a very small proportion of the population, who actually know that female applies to them (or that male does) but don’t want to admit it.

🤦🏻‍♀️

Or any concern for the women who will be unable to access NHS services because of their protected characteristic of religion.

It’s frankly scandalous. I used to feel a bit sad that I’d moved to England (for work reasons). But I’m increasingly grateful I did.

Who gives them this “advice”? Utterly clueless.

for a start, direct discrimination is “less favourable treatment” than someone without a particular protected characteristic would receive. It’s not clear at all that having a single room as opposed to a ward is “less favourable treatment”.

secondly, a TW with no GRC is still legally male. So their comparator is another man. Hence no discrimination. Notwithstanding the comment above.

thirdly, even where there is a GRC single sex spaces can still be used under exemptions in the Equality Act.

The Scottish government said it “expects everyone to be treated fairly and with respect when seeking health care” and that NHS staff should make “every effort to ensure that the privacy and dignity of all patients are maintained”.
Unless they are women, obviously.

It seems extraordinary to remove the word woman for the sake of of the feelings of a minority of women who identify as men, and in so doing ignore the feelings of the majority of women.who no longer have a name.

A form of madness must have gripped the government. The name for that is zealotry.

Nothing to do with including non gender conforming female people, it is all to do with not using the word " woman" in any context which links it with female biology, as this excludes male people who say they identify as women. All about the men....Patriarchy in action.

You know what? I think if I had to stay in a Scottish hospital I would self id as a man because I would actually feel safer in a designated male ward with real men who know they are men than be gaslighted by multiple staff in the female ward.

I saw this podcast mentioned on another post recently and am halfway through. It lays bare exactly who is giving this advice and how organisations are being captured. It is fascinating and terrifying.
