Standing for women - Portland rally cancelled over violent threats

ArabellaScott · 26/10/2022 13:59

Not quite sure what's happened - seems there were credible threats to women's lives over these protests.

twitter.com/StandingforXX

Now it seems a few women went ahead and met up and were attacked. (Nobody seriously hurt as far as I can tell)

Hoping everyone is safe and well.

@MargaritaPie @SecretTransTwitterEngineer

You seem to have a scale of acceptable assaults and threats.

Can you please put the following in order from least problematic to most problematic?

Throwing a cream pie at someone taking part in a non-violent protest
Referring to someone by their birth sex not their chosen gender
Putting up feminist stickers that state sex matters
Posing with weapons you plan to bring to a counterprotest
Posing with weapons and rhetoric about which people you would like to use them on
Sending rape and death threats to named individuals

TIA

I look forward to seeing this put into some kind of order so that we can better understand what these two posters deem as problematic.

I'm setting up a camping chair. I don't want to miss the release of this latest guide.

Kellie-Jay interviewed by Fox News:

She says that a man crushed April’s hand in his own bare hand, breaking two of her fingers. No word on justice for April…

Helleofabore · 28/10/2022 16:28

That is very shocking Grinitch.

The damage AND the fact that there may be no justice for April.

Datun · 28/10/2022 16:36

Fucking hell. Broke her fingers with his bare hands?

Jesus fucking Christ they're truly insane.

Datun · 28/10/2022 16:36

has he been arrested?

I'm not sure. I read a Twitter report from a Tacoma attendee (can't find it now) saying that one person from the "gender identity" side had been arrested, but I can't find any confirmation of that report.

GrinitchSpinach · 28/10/2022 17:26

Somehow I missed this earlier! April's experience, in her own words to the school board:

Please don’t- we nearly lost Arabella when she tried that.

Helleofabore · 27/10/2022 12:45

That is very concerning if true.

It is concerning but not surprising. Portland is one of the cities in USA where law and order has completely broken down.

Bloody hell, that poor woman. She could barely get through it, her voice was shaking so much.

It's complete anarchy.

Chillisquid · 28/10/2022 18:30

I think it depends how sticky the stickers are?
If they are very sticky and need scrapping off that counts as vandalism and criminal damage from what I remember.
Is that right marg?

I can't help but wonder whether April's assailant felt emboldened to break her fingers in Tacoma on Wednesday precisely because the activists who assaulted the women in Portland on Tuesday with cream pies, etc. faced absolutely no consequence for it.

ScreamingMeMe · 28/10/2022 20:33

Anything to say about the latest developments @MargaritaPie or @SecretTransTwitterEngineer ?

GurlwiththeCurl · 28/10/2022 21:23

You see, I am reminded of this famous piece. If you condone, or even celebrate, verbal and/or physical attacks against people who you don’t like, what happens when the tide turns and someone comes for you?

”First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
—Martin Niemöller”

I am horrified by the reactions of two posters on this thread.

ItsLateHumpty · 28/10/2022 23:48

Breaking someone’s fingers like that is very up close and personal, it’s barely controlled rage, and this person will escalate. It reminds me of the first tentative steps in a DV situation.

What a testimony from April about the Tacoma event of #LetWomenSpeakUSA 🇺🇸

As speakers began to talk the high school students:

“Pulled out our signs. Stomped on them. Picked up the stakes. Threatened them with us. Encircled us. This was very scary.”

”I’ve never been scared of a group of children in my life.

I’ve never witnessed such violence from children like that.

My hand was crushed & is broken...I was thrown to the ground.

Police were called 23 times & told women are being assaulted.

The principal did nothing.”

“Women came there for freedom of speech & it was shut down by those students.” - April.

#LetWomenSpeakUSA 🇺🇸 #Tacoma

Helleofabore · 29/10/2022 09:23

How brave is April! I am glad her injuries not even more serious, but they certainly are life impacting as they were.

So, have I missed either of those two posters denouncing those students.

The ones that pie was so concerned about because they chose to skip school and intimidate women rathe than listening to their lived stories . The ones who seem to have missed the lesson on what is true tolerance, not the special meaning of tolerance they think applies to them.

If I missed the denouncements, please let me know.

ApocalipstickNow · 29/10/2022 09:40

Here are Marg’s words again-

“KJK has screamed "groomers" at transpeople and their parents. To me that isn't "women speaking about women's rights", that sort of behaviour is just someone being abusive.“

I suspect (even though she won’t admit it in writing) this is enough justification for breaking a woman’s fingers.

we all know the scales on this one are not balanced.

Asdavaluesausage · 29/10/2022 09:43

So if ‘screaming’ at someone makes it acceptable to assault someone , then does that go both ways? I’ve seen a lot of screaming from the TRA, most noticeably at a baby…. @MargaritaPie your thoughts?

Helleofabore · 29/10/2022 10:04

Good grief.

Just from that video from Tacoma alone those students ‘screamed’ terf and literally screamed in the faces of women.

Should those women be justified in ‘screaming’ back or no?

Should those women be justified in assaulting the counter protestors or not?

I know what my answer is, I stated up thread my feelings on the topic.

But I do just want to pose the questions to anyone who takes Margs view. Recently we saw a poster telling us that Fred Sargeant was to blame for his assault. A 70+ year old man was victim blamed by a poster because Fred, a co-founder of Pride, should not be protesting the direction that Pride has taken. His being there was justification for assault.

This view has been shown again here by different posters. But they all support extreme trans activists.

nilsmousehammer · 29/10/2022 12:11

Anyone familiar with very young children will recognise this stage of emotional development, which goes 'anyone who thwarts me will be thumped' (and anyone who treats me as I treat others will mean I burst into sobs of outraged indignation.)

Mostly it passes around the age of 2-3. I suspect the links between this stage of emotional development and evidence that keeps piling up is why MN in particular holds a lot of women who have never been taken in by this behaviour.

There seems to be two sides to this story: www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/article267901542.html

"Nearby was Jeanna Hoch, who was arguing with a group of young counter-protesters. Seconds earlier she had sprayed a counter-protester in the face with pepper spray. Hoch said the counter-protester had touched her. She screamed,
“Do not touch me,” over and over as she backed up a hill. Down slope the counter-protester sat on grass, writhing in pain. A volunteer medic who declined to be identified said they treated at least five other protesters for pepper spray."

Whatever else may have taken place, pepper-spraying school children is not a good look.

Asdavaluesausage · 29/10/2022 20:52

Why was a ‘schoolchild’ attacking and screaming at a woman? Why was a ‘schoolchild’ touching a woman without consent? Aren’t enormous told if they are assaulted pepper spray is an acceptable weapon to repel those attacking them? Who were these volunteer medics? Why were these counter protesters assaulting women?
