“hoisted by their own petard” never seemed more apt, if true

Cross posted. Mermaids have as much of a clue about due diligence as they do about safeguarding and data protection.

And yet they are not investigating Mermaids.

This has aged well, hasn’t it Kevvy?

TheBiologyStupid · 04/10/2022 01:07

Yup, I'm looking forward to how Ben Cohen and Pink News are going to spin this...!

They are such innocents, aren't they 🤔

Yet running a charity for vulnerable young people and children.🤨

Interesting how so many of their "problems" relate to children's safety. Going behind parent's backs, mixed age groups discussing sexuality, dangerous data breaches, promoting binders that harm children's bodies, advocating for drugs and surgery for children that result in sterility and impaired function appointing a paedophile advocate as a trustee..... There seems no end to it all.

Melroses · 04/10/2022 01:34

You would think that as they have frequently stated that trans people are the most vulnerable in society that they would be extra careful about the safeguarding. They never are though. It just seems to be open house as long as you have the right views.

The other question is, why him? Why was he given a trustee role in the first place? What did he bring to the board, what is his area of expertise? Who employed him? Who vetted him, or didn’t?

...recommending a doctor who is suspended for running an unlicensed clinic and sterilised a 12 year old and whose partner husband was struck off.

Yes.

I suspect it's because he really, really wanted the role.

That's it.

The most generous interpretation would be that he had strong "anti-TERF" credentials, having written a lot of bad analysis of the Forstater judgment, for example, and he was a "gender studies"-y professor, adding some academic sheen.

He was the Right Sort of Person to improve their LGBTQ+ cred, giving Mermaids more of a foot in the door to the queer "academy" - with their potential academic funding streams and activist researchers.

It makes sense to me, strategically. I can imagine doing it (if I was riding the ideological tiger they're riding).

Thread of livetweets of 'Cambridge Uni's 'TERF grammar book' webinar'

'Breslow says TW has to engage in survival strategies and thus are more likely to be arrested under sexual offences than cis men.'

So he's knowingly making children get into something that will likely lead to sexual exploitation?

bellinisurge · 04/10/2022 06:44

Is it loud enough now for those blue ticks with fingers in their ears.
Charity Commission should shut them down TODAY

WarriorN · 04/10/2022 06:44

I'm not sure I fully understand what he means but in the concrete of his role at a childrens charity where his work has direct influence on children transitioning, that's very concerning

"Spurious attacks"

I wonder how that's working out for them?

WarriorN · 04/10/2022 06:59

Jesus, I hadn't read his quotes from source tool just now. Fucking hell.

It feels like anything to do with the "trans rights movement" is only one or two clicks/ people/ papers/ articles/ tweets from extreme sexual fetishes and child abuse.

Remind me why they were force teamed with the LBG again?

Smilelesstalkmore · 04/10/2022 07:06

OJ and Co will conveniently just ignore this.

But I feel this is getting too hig to ignore- you literally couldn't make it up!

bellinisurge · 04/10/2022 07:10

Zero coverage on Guardian website or BBC.
Tick tock, you fuckers.

Smilelesstalkmore · 04/10/2022 07:13

I hope Joanne gets wind of this.

I want actual popcorn to watch what the TRA take will be.

Clymene · 04/10/2022 07:16

I just read the thread on Twitter on this guy. That sentence about the shoe. I can't even ...

Bannerman is doing an epic job on this. Looking forward to Ben Cohen's hot take this morning.

It's a chicken/egg situation.

Are paedophiles and CSA fetishists hanging around trans activism because they’ve seen TRAs and gender doctors creating a cohort of adults who have childlike bodies and are exploiting that?

Or have TRAs and gender doctors gone down the route of creating adults with childlike bodies because of the malign influence of paedophiles and CSA fetishists?

Breslow retweeted this on 2nd Sept:
'if you've ever been called to jury duty and wondering how to oppose the criminal legal system from that position, check out this incredible new guide and resource on jury nullification!! refusing to convict is your power as a juror'

Ah.

'Ignore the rights, the wrongs, the situation and everyone involved in it, your responsibilities and the reason you're involved in the first place - and exploit the fuck out of it to enjoy expressing your own personal power and furthering your own internal agenda.'

Anti social behaviour disorder is one of the number of pathologies that come to mind.

This is where labels get you.

Attach a letter /flag and all of a sudden everything is OK .

We have backed ourselves into a corner now where what used to be indecent exposure /harassment can now fit into one of umpteen letters/labels under the QI+ and it becomes something to celebrate. What consenting adults get up to in the bedroom is up to them. Knock yourselves out. Literally if that's what you wish. But appropriate privacy is not oppression and kids don't need to learn about it.
