Owen Jones's video

Owen Jones posted a response to a person on Twitter who had suggested that he needed to have engaged in a relationship with a trans man to be supportive of trans issues, but turned into a commentary about anti-trans activism generally.

Video

As a straight trans woman in the UK who knows dozens of gay trans men and women, it does feel that 'gender critical' activists are constantly attempting to push the idea that gay trans ppl are attempting to force non-trans gay women and men. This appears to be divorced from reality - in fact I see far more (mostly straight) 'gender critical' activists attempting to shame non-trans gay women and men for being attracted (or being potentially attracted to) trans ppl.

I would ask said activists to stop attempting to 'de-gay' gay women and men like this - it's utterly homophobic and it's wrong.

Gay people, male or female, are same sex attracted. It's nothing to do with gender - gender is a social construct and basically a set of approved stereotypes for appearance and behaviour that either sex are judged on. Didn't used to be such an issue, but these days in our society there's a lot of judgement if you don't "conform" to the gendered stereotypes attached to your biological sex.

A heterosexual woman is sexually attracted to men, a gay woman is sexually attracted to other women. Gender is a red herring and irrelevant.

A woman who dates a trans woman is not gay, which is absolutely fine, but as they are opposite sex they cannot meet the definition of same sex attracted. Same goes for a man dating a trans man - opposite sex (but in reality gay men don't date trans men and nobody insists they should).

“Didn't used to be such an issue, but these days in our society there's a lot of judgement if you don't "conform" to the gendered stereotypes attached to your biological sex.”

really? I can’t my hair, wear trousers, no make up, etc without cutting my breasts and sporting a moustache? Wtf, is this in Saudi Arabia?

I’ve had short hair, 99.99% time wear trousers and no makeup - nobody has prompted me to cut my breasts yet or say I’m a man

i feel sad for people who believe this. I do think it’s wide spread among teens and young people, especially with the mermaids barbie/ gi joe propagan… sorry “gender” chart but it’s not reality, just indoctrina…sorry sexist BS.

To be consistent "a straight trans woman" would be a male person attracted to someone of either sex who says they have a masculine gender identity.

yes, but what if they are attracted to someone before they know that person’s identity?! What if they are attracted to someone who they later discover has a 2-spirit identity or the new eunuch identity?! Would that rock their world or what?

They’d have to revise everything about themselves and tell all the men they’ve ever dated that they have NEVER being in a straight relationship, that they have been queer this whole time!!!

and those men would also have to tell their partners that and so on and so on until there are no more straights?

how many of this world changing events will take to transform all straights on earth to queer!

what is the chance of any of us not being queer?

please OP enlighten us!

😁

Loj doesn't look well in that video and I'm not taking the piss , for a change.

Like he needs a holiday and some decent grub. The cognitive dissonance is shredding him.

FlibbertyGiblets · 17/09/2022 08:00

Where is OP, could you pop back and clarify some points please?

This! Can you explain please, @SecretTransTwitterEngineer ?

PinkDodgems · 17/09/2022 22:00

Assuming OP is using TRA language, OP is a biological male who identifies as a woman. OP says OP is straight.
OP - if you believe yourself to be a straight woman in the TRA sense, presumably you have sex with both "cis men" and transmen? Please confirm.

Helleofabore · 18/09/2022 07:50

I see no return of the OP then?

How very, very enlightening …. A thread is started to shame and admonish females fighting to maintain their boundaries by a male, and it is a plopper thread. A drive by shaming. A one sided rant at us that was unintelligible in its delivery, but not in it intention.

A plea to females to ‘be kind’, to stop fighting male oppression, and allow males to identify into a group who are indeed being proven to be among the most marginalised and vulnerable again, lesbians.

And some of these male posters honestly believe that their sex is undetectable in their posts.

Same old, same old.

Helleofabore · 18/09/2022 08:02

By the way OP.

Remember this tweet? Owen Jones knows exactly what sex lesbians are.

He posts about finding ‘broody lesbians’ to provide him with a child. Not sure why you posted a video from a man who has said in the past he would not have sex with a female, even if that female was a trans man, who absolutely knows ‘lesbians’ are the sex that he needs to have a child - potentially through exploitative means. I mean, he is a well known misogynist (and to be clear, ‘broody’ is a misogynistic term in this tweet above).

Are you able to even recognise misogyny when it is delivered to you on a plate?

I have my doubts from your previous posts. But maybe you can come back and tell us why any female should ever accept the words of Owen Jones, and via your amplification of him, your words?

LuftBalloons · 18/09/2022 11:40

Can you explain please, @SecretTransTwitterEngineer ?

Probably busy harvesting screenshots of vicious Mumsnet feminists for Twitter.

TheClogLady · 18/09/2022 12:19

I hope someone has screenshotted

‘jumble sausage’.

I've thought this for a while and I'm not taking the piss either. I hope he has people around him who care. He doesn't look or sound at all well.

VestofAbsurdity · 18/09/2022 14:48

I see no return of the OP then?

No, unsurprising though they never have the courage of their convictions.

TheClogLady · 18/09/2022 18:22

Posting on another thread…

Olympic Gold Medal level of ploppery.

ImherewithBoudica · 18/09/2022 18:48

Never stands up to actual discussion: just lob mantras and false information and flee.

What's the point? I mean it's useful in the sense that women then patiently explain, again to all readers, what the actual problems are and where the evidence is but it's getting boring now.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 18/09/2022 18:50

What's the point

they are like a broken pencil…pointless 🥺

Ohyoudodoyou · 18/09/2022 21:17

I have just checked Owen Jones' Twitter - why is he so thirsty? He is like a 13 year old with their first TikTok account.
He is meant to be a journalist. Just trying to imagine great journalists like Harold Evans and Christiane Amanpour gurning away on crappy little videos and taking their kit off for likes.

donquixotedelamancha · 18/09/2022 23:25

It makes him a fortune for very little work.

He is meant to be a journalist.

He self-identifies as a journalist, that is very much not the same thing.

Yup, they're ahead of a bald porcupine in that respect - so winning at something!

nepeta · 19/09/2022 18:43

The obfuscating language is one of the central points of queer theory. Deconstructing concepts and making it impossible to have certain conversations at all, when participants in it define the central terms differently.

Like the term 'cisgender', which is created within the gender identity ideology and which, strictly speaking, requires that the person called that possesses an abstract gender identity which is NOT based on the person's sex at all, but just happens to align with that.

Also, that cisgender person is assumed to be comfortable with the gender rules, roles and stereotypes attached to her or his gender.

That's the actual definition, but we are also told that all 'cisgender' means is 'not transgender'.

So some accept the label without realising that they are also buying the whole gender identity ideology. (I think most people don't have an abstract identity but if they do have a gender identity it is an embodied one, based on living as a sexed person in a society which treats people differently on the basis of their perceived sex.)

I have started to think that the obfuscation of language and the high effort deciphering these things requires is one of the central parts of the game. But it will also end up hurting the gender identity ideology as you can see if you try to use their genderual orientation rules to define when a non-binary person is gay or straight...
