That's appalling behaviour from the member of staff and Gilded Balloon management should support the performers who have paid for performance space.

I won't be going to see this show. I don't like stand up in general and this is particularly not my thing. The title is dreadful.

Viva Your Vulva: The Hole Story

It is brilliant. There is so much about the menopause we don't know. This video is a talk she did. Poor pelvic floor health is one of the biggest killers of women when you take into account the secondary effects.

I got to just under 3 minutes of this clip and didn't laugh once. The "hole story" seems an odd choice of title- given posters on here usually object to that term.

I'm sure she's a lovely person and she has been treated very badly but I don't find this type of "comedy" funny.

Cismyfatarse · 21/08/2022 21:46

I went and it is funny and clever and informative. She wants us to understand our bodies properly but also to make us laugh.

Like the best kind of teacher, she builds rapport to get her message across. And the message is that we can help ourselves by understanding our vulva, vagina and clitoris.

Rightsraptor · 21/08/2022 21:52

Is anyone else thinking this a targeted harassment campaign and not isolated incidents? The offenders seem to be young venue staff determined to bring down shows they disapprove of; we know of Elaine Miller & Jerry Sadowitz's shows - any others? Seems to me all it's taken has been a group of students in a vacation job intending to cause maximum distress to their victims. The little shits. Why won't the venues tell them to get lost?

Rather like the reclaiming of other derogatory terms, there's a big difference between woman haters describing us as holes, and a stridently feminist woman using the term. But you don't have to like it, or find her funny - but for people to be shouting "transphobe" because she refuses to talk about poles in a show about holes...that's a problem.

You don’t have to like the title, it’s the message in the show that’s important.

ScreamingMeMe · 21/08/2022 22:06

Just seen a lovely tweet from Joanna Cherry:

"Women from across Scotland came to see & support ⁦@GussieGrips⁩ tonight in her brilliant, witty & informative 5 star #edfringe show about female anatomy. #WomenWontWeesht "

Yes I do.

I wonder if we chatted after!

No, though I wish we had! Was desperately trying to see who looked like a mumsnetter Grin
The "hole" part - she talked about their being more than one hole in your vulva - I am sure I'm not the only woman who thought they peed through their vagina for quite a long time!

WanOvaryKenobi · 21/08/2022 22:37

It's teenagers with summer jobs coming up against the real world and hearing jokes and opinions that are not in their online echo chambers.

Rightsraptor · 21/08/2022 22:38

I watched Andrew Doyle's 'Free Speech Nation' this evening and they were talking about JS's show being cancelled. One reason that was suggested for the venues kowtowing to the Wokesters was that they were worried they'd have no staff if they didn't. But if they carry on like this they'll have no business! They'll all be out of work.

More interestingly though they were talking about funding from the Scottish Parliament for the Fringe. There are apparently concerns over this and, iirc, an investigation is looming.

Should be worth watching.

Bitebite · 21/08/2022 23:53

I enjoyed the show very much, was proud to be part of the standing ovation and even more proud that my 17-year old daughter was standing alongside me.

I'm not interested in this type of show and certainly not one which uses "hole" to describe part of the female body.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 22/08/2022 01:08

I will be very interested however to hear the response from The Gilded Balloon to the poster who was harassed by a member of their staff.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 21/08/2022 13:55

This link seems not to exist any more. I've searched for Elaine on the site and nothing comes up. A search for Edinburgh brings up articles but none with that title, or apparently about Elaine.

aweegc · 22/08/2022 05:32

Don't go and see it then. But make sure your pelvic floor is in good health and you've got access to the info about menopause that Elaine provides, if you're female and not yet on the other side of it (and if you are, I hope you're in the population that had a smooth ride!).

Try this link.

PSKeyboardwarrior · 22/08/2022 06:24

Ok the link didn't work but if you scroll down you will see the article.

FrustratedEgg · 22/08/2022 07:20

@aweegc try searching for Debbie Hayton - the author of the article I believe.

AlisonDonut · 22/08/2022 08:16

I''ve told you all time and again, the only people allowed to call themselves women are men!

Get with the programme.

ScreamingMeMe · 22/08/2022 08:33

Tell me again that this movement doesn't hate women and doesn't want to stop us talking about our bodies.

IsItShining · 22/08/2022 08:35

Joss Prior does not see the importance of information about vulvas (autocorrect thinks Vulcans would be better!) and menopause.

Wonder why.

BettyFilous · 22/08/2022 08:49

Joss: Not everything’s about you. 🙄
