No one is denying that people can be attracted only to certain groups.

Some gay people might only want to date cisgender people, other gay people might want to only date redheads etc

Ooh- what’s the name for that sexuality? Is it on a verified list?

titchy · 01/06/2022 19:13

The law recognises trans men as men and trans women as women.

The law also defines homosexuality as sexual attraction to someone of the same biological sex.

Of course people are entitled to their opinions but I have the law on my side thank God :)

As do I Wink

Please stop with these homophobic tweets.

should lesbians who only want to date ‘cisgender’ lesbians be able to indicate this on dating apps, so that they are only matched with what I would call women, and not expected to consider what I would call men?

"stop leeching off the LGB."

Trans people make a huge contribution to the LGBT community. Always have, always will.

One of my very community minded pals is a trans man and he really helps so many people in his spare time. A real super man.

We are so lucky to have trans people in the rainbow community. 😀

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 01/06/2022 19:19

A very strange thing to say as I barely know any straight people these days

lololool. Way to prove the point you’re trying to argue against.

People should only date people they are attracted to. If you don't want to date a trans person, don't date them! Seems simple.

Out of interest, if you think trans men are women, why do lesbians never date trans men?

No a trans man with a GRC is legally a man and thus if he marries another man (whether trans or cisgender) the law recognises them as gay married.

That is why at the legal ceremony the groom is asked "do you take this man?"

Same applies for lesbians.

Glad I can be of help to you!

titchy · 01/06/2022 19:28

Right so only trans women with a GRC who are attracted to females are legally lesbians. The ones without GRCs are straight. Got it. That actually makes sense thank you!

Have met some extremely attractive TM, who yes, I perceive as women and would be perfectly happy to date as a lesbian, but certainly don't expect that a TM may feel similarly due to their choice of identity. I've also known many very lovely and very masculine/butch presenting lesbians, homosexual meaning same sex attracted regardless of expression.

You say you don't know any straight people, but I get a distinct impression that you don't know any gay people.

MrsMidClegs · 01/06/2022 19:34

The Chambers Dictionary - used in Law - has is extremely precise on the meaning of sexuality.

Gender identity is irrelevant and for ANYONE who says otherwise is living in the '70s.

Okay, here's the thing. If you "perceive [trans men] as women". They are not going to date you because you have misgendered them.

And that is why lesbians don't date trans men.

A trans woman get can a British Passport and under sex it says "female".

Ditto for a trans man.

Who am I to disagree with Her Majesty's Passport Office? 😀

Happy to help!

MrsMidClegs · 01/06/2022 19:46

"Who am I to disagree with Her Majesty's Passport Office? 😀"

It's a ridiculous piece of paper which tells a lie, that piece of paper can't change your actual sex right?

If went on a date with someone who'd told me online they were a woman, I met them, ir they looked and sounded, walked like the male they were - if they gave me a piece of paper saying they were a woman, should I believe ot?

Feck off. I'd run a mile, I won't date males. Even with a fancy piece of paper. End Of.

nightwakingmoon · 01/06/2022 19:50

So, @Hearach15 , as you know do many trans people - what is it that makes someone trans? Are you of the “distressing dysphoria/mental illness” opinion, the “gendered soul” opinion, the “born in the wrong body” opinion or something else?

Is it at the granting of the passport that the change of state is magically conferred? (I wish the government could wave its magic wand in other departments, too - perhaps the DVLA could hurry up with my licence renewal….)

Deliriumoftheendless · 01/06/2022 19:53

So would you say it was correct that a transman with a GRC is a man, but a transman without a GRC is a woman?

AlisonDonut · 01/06/2022 19:53

He is still on twitter. Why not go and ask him yourself?

BootsAndRoots · 01/06/2022 20:24

I see Hearch15 is still on his one-man campaign to "re-educate" MumsNetters.

Doesn't seem that bothered about a virus spreading and harming gay men though.

ResisterRex · 01/06/2022 20:44

other gay people might want to only date redheads etc

Sounds like they need to check how societal prejudice has shaped their views

And that is why I said in my post that sentence which read but certainly don't expect that a TM may feel similarly due to their choice of identity.

Not sure what you're scolding about.
