A transwoman feeding their new born baby with their own milk..

A website has said they have lost many followers with supporting this.

I just don’t understand why this is being promoted. If men in general were able to breastfeed children, why is this not being encouraged among married couples? Im sure plenty of men would be willing to step up and share breastfeeding with their partner.

It can’t be healthy for a baby to be fed this way, as surely the transwoman would be taking multiple type of hormones in order to remain transitioned?

That can't be good for the baby.

Soubriquet · 21/05/2022 14:48

And yet a lactation consultant is promoting it.

Trans women can breast feed? Surely not? How would this happen?

Jesus, I think I've seen it all now 🤯

Perhaps that might be an opportunity to reflect on why?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/05/2022 14:53

I've seen people saying that picture is of the MTF person's female partner. I'm sure the MTF person looks rather more male.

endofthelinefinally · 21/05/2022 14:53

When you think how carefulwomen have to be when breast feeding wrt painkillers, antibiotics etc it seems shocking that a male person can feed a baby a cocktail of chemicals and hormones with impunity.

Soontobe60 · 21/05/2022 14:54

Op, you need to ask to get your thread title changed - it’s misleading. They’re not feeding the baby milk. They’re feeding it drug induced secretions.

You would think so but no. The word Terf is thrown about and exclamations of not understanding how the human body works

Just why the fuck would you even try this?

MidCenturyClegs · 21/05/2022 14:55

Is there a breastfeeding section on MN? I think this should go in there or AIBU.

SabiRiver · 21/05/2022 14:58

Imagine if they induced lactation in Bulls. How many people would be happy adding chemically induced secretions to their cuppa in the morning?

NC202205 · 21/05/2022 14:59

Surely you would hve to test it somehow before feeding it to a baby?! What on Earth is even in it

lunar1 · 21/05/2022 15:02

I would be very interested to know how rigorous the testing has been on breast milk produced by someone biologically male, who is taking drugs to become transgender.

Is it something men can also do in cases where the women can't for some reason?

How has it fared gaining ethical approval for testing? I should have a look for published studies on the subject.

I took my newborn with me to the chemist so I could buy Lactose for myself, the pharmacist wouldn't sell my is as I was breastfeeding a new baby. I had to get a prescription.

That was 13 years ago now, has there been a big study on what's safe for a newborn during those years? I hope the heart of this is science and the child's health, rather than feelings and being kind.

Men do have breast tissue, and my milk is also most certainly "drug induced secretions", the drugs being the barrage of hormones coming after pregnancy.

They induce lactation on non-pregnant women who, for example, are adopting. And that would also mean introducing "un natural" hormones.

That said, we don't know the hormone levels in this person's bloodstream, or the exact composition of the milk, but I do hope they tested everything!!!!! And that that baby is not some lab mouse!!! 😖

Still kind of creepy....

loislovesstewie · 21/05/2022 15:05

I'm not even sure they are breastfeeding, I think the baby has been put to the breast but isn't actually getting any milk. I breastfed my 2 for over 2 years in total and I never fed mine like that ; too uncomfortable for starters and I never showed off my boobs like that. ( not because I am a prude )!

AlisonDonut · 21/05/2022 15:08

There really are no words.

Plasmodesmata · 21/05/2022 15:09

That's a good question actually - if there's the possibility for a trans woman to do this, why can't a man?

Soubriquet · 21/05/2022 15:09

I would hope, if there was milk, it was fully tested first.

Children shouldn’t be used as experiments.

They would have to submit to taking a LOT of female hormones!!! 🤷🏻‍♀️ what man do you know would want full on breatfeeding boobs on their chest?! Alongside all other secondary female characteristics?..... I'll tell DH wouldn't 😉 but he would have loved to theoretically be able to do it

EarringsandLipstick · 21/05/2022 15:14

I am completely confused. This is a transwoman breastfeeding? How?

Am I correct in saying that the hormones they are taking have enabled them to lactate?

I'd no idea this could happen; but it's awful that a newborn is being experimented on this way.

WhereIsMyGlasses · 21/05/2022 15:15

So actual women are selfish for having 1 child, they're selfish for having more than the typical 2, they're selfish for not having children, they're selfish for breastfeeding, they're selfish for no breastfeeding, they're selfish for not working qnd looking after their children, they're selfish for working and using childcare, they're selfish for having children in their 40s, they're selfish...for everything!

But, a trans woman is not selfish for taking a whole host of hormones not just for ones self but for a baby who has no choice, and who knows what the ramifications of that will be, it may not truly be realised for 5, 10, 15...years!

😵‍💫🤯

Waitwhat23 · 21/05/2022 15:16

I don't know if I'm remembering this correctly but I think the person who came up with this pathway to induce lactation in males wouldn't test it on his own child because he didn't know if there would be any harmful implications. I've never actually seen any research which focuses on the nutritional value/well being of the child rather than the actual mechanics of essentially inducing galactorrea.
