What is a Woman? Advert. The tide is truly turning...

"Florida-based watch manufacturer Egard Watches has created an ad spot in defense of biological women’s rights.

What are the details?
The video opens with footage of accomplished women, including female athletes and others, and shows women through the decades and even centuries fighting for equal rights.

"What is a woman?" the female narrator says. "Is women's history of achievements quickly being erased? Is a woman a feminine force of nature? Is a woman a sister, a daughter, a mother? Is a woman the wonder of childbirth?"

"Is a woman a caregiver?" the narrator continues. "Is a woman a warrior who fought for her place?"

The video continues, "Is that now being taken away, soon to be forgotten? Is that not worth protecting? And how long do we sit idly by and not stand for the sacred value of womanhood as it loses all meaning?"

"Because we believe that womanhood is a birthright," the narrator concludes.

What else?
In a statement provided to Blaze Media, Egard CEO Ilan Srulovicz said, “The overwhelming majority of Americans are appalled by Big Tech, Big Business, and Big Government’s coordinated campaign to erase the hard-fought gains earned by untold millions of amazing women in our society."

"Yet, almost nobody is speaking for them," Srulovicz continued. "We crafted an ad campaign that celebrates our grandmothers, mothers, sisters, aunts, and daughters, and everything they represent to paint a stark contrast to the lies we are all being told."

Srulovicz added, "The push for transgender rights is no longer about equality, it’s now a cleverly-crafted lie that comes at the expense of women. We ask all Americans to join us to speak truth.”

This is a VERY powerful advert

You would have much luck here @notwhatineednow, they'll support anything right wing as long as it dunks on the trans.

I think right wing see and know what a women is. Left wing seem confused. Great advert. Wish they did necklace in gold, not gold plate.

ScrollingLeaves · 19/04/2022 19:36

Right, so the only woman shown in a profession in the advert (besides the clerk asking her the question) is there be shown how stupid she is.

You think this is a coincidence?

Why didn't they show any women in respected careers, other than sports?

I don’t think it showed how stupid she is but rather how taboo answering the question truthfully would have been. I do agree they should have shown more women in respected careers. I think in fact many of your criticisms are valid.

Nevertheless, I welcome this ad because it does celebrate the idea that women [biological] exist, allows the names “woman” and “mother”, and suggests that women are not interchangeable with male versions of themselves.

MangyInseam · 19/04/2022 19:37

Words have meanings.

If you think that women should be caregivers and men should be protectors, solely because of the sex that we're born, then that's not a feminist view of the world but a conservative, sexist one.

(That doesn't mean feminists can't recognise that motherhood is linked to womanhood or that the reality is that right now, women do most of the caring).*

The ad doesn't actually say that, and I don't know any conservatives who think in such a one dimensional way either. They may well believe that mothers are vulnerable and need protection and support from the fathers of their children, but that is not, I think, sexist or even anti-feminist.

Posting this venn diagram, again, as it's shows the differences well.

It's a simplistic projection with regard to conservatives, and imagines feminists are a lot more united than they are as well.

Both feminists and conservatives oppose gender ideoogy, but for different reasons.

No, they oppose them for the same reasons. It isn't in touch with reality. It's damaging to women and children and also to the psychologically vulnerable.

And, sometimes your enemy's enemy is also your enemy.

Why think in those terms at all?

So much of this kind of purity spiral reaction seems to be predicated on a really straw man kind of view of people who take a different viewpoint. Things like "conservatives don't like gender ideology because they want to keep women in boxes." And some imagining that they are living like the Duggers, who are hardly typical and are members of a cult.

I think right wing see and know what a women is.

Exactly, we know where the sensible heads are at - what's wrong with being right wing anyway?

This is the feminist board. The right don't exactly have a good record on women's rights, so in the context of women's rights - a lot is wrong with being right wing. (Yes, I know the left is a shit show right now also).

In the context of the advert we're discussing, the religious right in America is responsible for taking away women's reproductive rights such as access to abortion and contraception. Is this something you support?

notwhatineednow · 19/04/2022 21:30

FFS. I now have adverts for this company on my Facebook.

smindigo · 19/04/2022 23:22

Posie Parker is in the studio with Tucker Carlson on Fox News tonight, it's great that he's supporting women and having her back again.

They've also pushed the drive to keep trans woman out of sport which is good.

This advert is gender woo in a different font that is all.

Dog even a little bit below the thin surface of this advert and you’ll see the misogyny. Whatever happened to critical thought.

You're taking the piss, right? Please tell me you are!

Tucker Carlson, anti-abortion, feminist-hating fox news anchor, that Tucker Carlson?

I'm starting to suspect this place is overrun with trolls tbh.

This lot are not feminists, anyway.

(To be clear, I mean the posters on this thread, not the whole of FWR. I've learnt loads from the amazing and knowledgable feminist women in FWR over the years).

MangyInseam · 19/04/2022 23:46

If feminism is only left wing it's really not relevant to about half of women, and needs to stop pretending that it takes all women seriously. There is no more reason we should think of it as any more important than any other partisan viewpoint, and it certainly should not claim to speak for women.

Conservatives in the US are about as likely to be women as men. If feminism imagines it's for all women, then it needs to listen to them and not behave like some kind of patronizing parent speaking on their behalf because they don't really know what they think or what's good for them. They really aren't all chained up in the kitchen without enough education to have an opinion.

notwhatineednow · 19/04/2022 23:46

Sorry, my last post is probably inflammatory!

Just fucked off with seeing women's rights being stripped away and I really didn't expect to see this here.

It feels like we need to start over again with explaining why sexism is bad, and critical analysis is necessary. How did we get here?

Insulting people probably isn't the best place to start though, I admit. (Unless they really are trolls).

Do you know anything about the religious right in America?

Feminism being for all women doesn't mean accepting ideas that are against women's best interests. No matter how many women believe in them.

Pro-lifers are not feminist. They are anti-woman. No matter what sex they are.

Have people lost sight of there being an objective reality? That people can be right or wrong about a thing?

Reality doesn't have a focus group. It just is.

If you don’t think there are women actively campaigning against women’s rights then I don’t know what to tell you.

I’ll listen to them, but I don’t need to agree with them or shape my feminism around their misogynistic demands just because they happen to be women.

Ides · 19/04/2022 23:57

Good lord, what a load of hifalutin piffle. LOL!

A tiny, tiny few people, born as males, now describe themselves as females. And that's all it takes, seriously, for all those born female to squeal and burst into tears that this tiny few people, possessed of penises and testicles, to oppress them. Well, not even just that, nowadays: to erase them.

I must ask my male friends what it feels like to have been erased, because there are now transmales claiming to be males. I shall report back if any of them - any of them at all - say anything other than e.g. 'Eh? What the F do you mean by being 'erased'? No, last I checked, I'm still here ... no one's rubbed me out!'

Lawd god, has feminism failed, so utterly and completely, if all it takes to reduce women to tears is just one in - what, 100? 400? people who were born male to say 'Hey, I'm a woman now!'. Feminism tried so hard, and so long, to convince women that not having a scrotum and penis didn't mean that they were automatically weaker, more vulnerable and inferior to males ... and now, all that's at an end. Just one person in a women's changing room, equipped with male tackle, is all it takes to destroy all that empowerment.

Utterly, completely pathetic. The entire project of feminism destroyed by a bunch of self-proclaimed, modern-day proponents of feminism who absolutely insist that women are weeds next to men, and can't be anything else. What a travesty.

oldwomanwhoruns · 20/04/2022 07:02

All it takes, is one man, in a changing room, in a women's prison, on a woman's hospital ward, to reduce what should be a single-sex space, to mixed-sex space.

One man. That's how the maths works.
One man in a women's swimming race, and all the women might have just as well stayed at home. One man.

The trolls on this thread are having such fun with their hand- waving about 'moral panic'. But men and women are different. Men cannot be women.

I would rather the rather old- fashioned vision of womanhood of this advert, than the 'anyone can be a woman' narrative, of the trans lobby.

The threat to women from the trans lobby is so extreme, that for a while all other women's rights issues will have to be put to one side.

Wow! Brilliant. But it's very painful to see that the senator asking for a definition of woman is a white Republican, and it's a black woman - Biden's Supreme Court nominee -- saying she can't give a definition.

Also a shame they mention ‘big tech’ etc as that’s often spouted in reference to Trump being banned on some social media sites and it’s all painted as some big tech Democrat conspiracy to squash “free speech”
but yes apart from that….

Quite happy to be considered a weed if it stops women prisoners in my country having to share showers with male sex offenders and stops female rape victims being excluded from counselling because a man wants to join the group. So if your feminism doesn't stand up for them , fuck it!
