'Protestors are now outside the Mechanics Institute where the Woman’s Place UK group are holding a conference on ‘single-sex provision in policy and law’.'

There were a few people on Twitter saying the protesters weren't northerners due to how they shouted bastards.

Yes, I had the exact same thought when I heard it. Not many actual Mancs in that crowd. Just a few received pronunciation students.

And this is the angle that the Manchester evening news have decided to go with.
I’ll never read that paper again.

I do agree with this 'protestor's quote, though:

'“Trans people are disproportionate as it is.'

Where are the posters who blame all women for the LGBA attendess' argument? Shouldn't they be here condemning the threatening and abusive behaviour of the anti-woman protesters? It's in their name, they made the rules...

DomesticatedZombie · 25/03/2022 09:15

“There are people who are campaigning against the legal protections for trans people which will make it so that trans people can’t be legally hate crimed against, which is f* up."

They don't have the first fucking clue what they're talking about. Not a tiny inkling.

Where are our visitors who were so keen to tell us feminists off for a man shouting at someone yesterday?

Are you not all coming here to support these brave, stunning 'protestors'?

That MEN article is written by Adam Maidment - the tweeter in the OP. The people he's quoted don't sound very bright.

FlipperSkipper · 25/03/2022 09:15

I should have been there last night, but covid put a stop to that. I have managed to screenshot that Labour councillors tweets stating that women should not be allowed to meet to discuss sex based rights that are enshrined in law and I will be reporting her to the council standards department.

DomesticatedZombie · 25/03/2022 09:16

He seems to have spent a great deal of time soliciting interviews and quotes from the 'protestors'. And very little presenting the very easily found views of Woman's Place.

Could be used as instructional example for an exercise media bias.

Thank you. I will be writing to her.

Politely, I should add.

I'm absolutely shocked.

Oh goody a new verb " to hate crime"" I wonder how it will be conjugated.
I hate crime
You hate crime
They(s)/ he/she/ze etc hates crime? Or maybe hate crimes. I wonder which they would use?

Quite.

One speaker, who stood up to address the crowd, said: “Our lives and communities are in disregard. Why are people so insistent on demanding autonomy over our bodies?”

How can they not see the irony??

Adam was offered a complimentary press ticket to attend the event. twitter.com/kiritunks/status/1507128500272123908

Being the excellent journalist he is and wanting to get both sides of the story, he naturally didn't respond to that offer. 🙄

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/03/2022 09:37

I think this piece should be challenged. It's factually incorrect and the journalist was inciting trouble.

ScreamingMeMe · 25/03/2022 09:40

@Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky

It’s absolutely appalling

I assume it won’t be safe for those inside to leave till that lot have been dispersed

Now I’m sure all the ppl who were scolding women about agression on the thread about Jen Ives will be along any second to condemn the yelling and abuse by the crowd

Any time soon….

Right??

You know the drill. Pull up your camping chair and get a flask and some cakes. We could be here a while...

The MEN is regulated by IPSO according to their complaints page:

www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/how-to-complain/

DomesticatedZombie · 25/03/2022 09:44

www.ipso.co.uk/editors-code-of-practice/

i) The Press must take care not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information or images, including headlines not supported by the text.

ii) A significant inaccuracy, misleading statement or distortion must be corrected, promptly and with due prominence, and — where appropriate — an apology published. In cases involving IPSO, due prominence should be as required by the regulator.

iii) A fair opportunity to reply to significant inaccuracies should be given, when reasonably called for.

iv) The Press, while free to editorialise and campaign, must distinguish clearly between comment, conjecture and fact.

Grin there was also "Why are people so insistent on demanding autonomy over our bodies?” Confused

Not the brightest bunch that ever walked the Earth.

X post, spent ages looking for that quote!

BraveBananaBadge · 25/03/2022 09:51

Reach has gone all out recruiting a lot of specialist LGBT+ journos of late. The ones I know of are the same as Adam here, pronouns in bio, convinced how right their views are on social media, and biased in their entry-level reporting.

Of course there's no reason why this shouldn't be a specialist area of reporting, it would be valid and necessary ordinarily, but they are recruiting young activists with no obvious talents or sense of the basic tenets of their profession.

Specialist reporters on women's issues aren't a thing anymore that I can see. And of course their jobs literally depend on the clicks and nothing else, so they'll be rubbing their hands at this either way. It's an absolute disgrace that leaves women stuck in the shit they've dumped on us as they wash their hands of it and rush on to the next thing.

AlisonDonut · 25/03/2022 10:01

So the police, are they stood having to listen to 'APAB'?

I do wonder if anyone looks at this from the other rainbow-washed police forces and goes 'hang on a minute'...

08:40 PurgatoryOfPotholes

Twitter post from Simon Edge, author

I’ve just seen footage of last night’s hate parade. One of the chants seems to have been ‘cis scum off our streets’. Since ‘cis’ means ‘not trans’, they’re saying 99% of Manchester should be locked indoors. Does no elected representative have a problem with this? #WPUKManchester

‘It’s just like the gay rights struggle…’ I went on tons of gay rights marches before this lot were born. No gay rights protest was ever mad enough to denounce straight people as scum or call for them to be kept off the streets. Do bookmark this one for the next time they say it

Anyway, good find PurgatoryofPotholes so anyone who isn't trans is "scum", huh? Lovely.

Torunette · 25/03/2022 10:06

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

Labour losing women again, I see. This is a female Labour councillor and trade unionist saying this meeting should never have happened and she will be investigating. FFS.
This councillor is a disgrace.

Protecting her tweets, I would argue, is against the Nolan Principles.

"1.4 Accountability

Holders of public office are accountable to the public for their decisions and actions and must submit themselves to the scrutiny necessary to ensure this."

Protecting your tweets because you've stated a meeting of individuals to discuss issues that pertain to them in a democratic society should not have occurred contravenes this principle.

The what now? What scrambles people's brains on this issue? Would they say that about any other population of people whose rights are supported in law?
