'Protestors are now outside the Mechanics Institute where the Woman’s Place UK group are holding a conference on ‘single-sex provision in policy and law’.'

Same shit. Different century.

BraveBananaBadge · 24/03/2022 21:48

I'm not local to Manchester but this is the closest to me one of these protests has happened and for that, it feels extra chilling. Like others say, I hope the women in the meeting are safe. This is absolutely unacceptable.

One thing though, thanks to the journo covering it (and getting roundly ratioed) there is an avalanche of tweets all alerting the MEN news desk, Manchester City Council and Andy Burnham. They can't pretend they don't know the strength of feeling about this going forward - or how horrendous it looks tonight.

yourhairiswinterfire · 24/03/2022 21:50

It is not a peaceful protest when the crowd are chanting ‘FUCK TERFS’ through a sound system

The police, at this point are supporting the abuse of women

Lovely bunch.

DomesticatedZombie · 24/03/2022 21:55

the MEN news desk

They're out, and safe. Thank fuck.

Every time this happens, another woman will look at this and go, 'woah, no this doesn't sit right'.

So thank you Manchester 'trans rights' activists (still not sure what rights you're aiming for, given that in the UK yes, trans rights, like other people's rights are indeed human rights, and protected, other than extra rights that include 'let men who say they're women into women's spaces and places?)

You will have tipped another woman off the #bekind fence.

Well done.

Thank you.

FemaleAndLearning · 24/03/2022 22:01

Also chanting all cops are bastards and protect trans youth.
More sunlight I guess.

DomesticatedZombie · 24/03/2022 22:02

I find 'trans youth' a highly worrying phrase.

That's a relief!

Seems as if the police did a great job. Well done.

@DomesticatedZombie

I find 'trans youth' a highly worrying phrase.
It's a euphemism for political cover and human shield for their elders.
2Rebecca · 24/03/2022 22:22

Surprised the TRAs haven't realised this doesn't help. Women don't go in angry mobs to trans meetings. Let them get on with it we have better things to do. This wasn't about them, it was about women

IcakethereforeIam · 24/03/2022 22:23

Was there a tweet saying the protestors (I don't like calling them that, it legitimises them) baying mob were bussed in? Were they all local incels? Ot seen many tweets supporting them.

Glad everyone made it out safely. Ffs it's manchester not Kyiv.

bellinisurge · 24/03/2022 22:24

Hope Burnham saw this. He's obviously still got hopes for himself up as Starmer's replacement. Just needs to find a handy constituency like Johnson did.

Andy, you need to sort this shit out. Protesting is fine. Intimidating victims of FGM and male violence is NOT. There's not heat on both sides.

Mochudubh · 24/03/2022 22:29

No comment from Cath, Mags et al? Quelle surprise!

Megthehen · 24/03/2022 22:41

Near St Peter's Square a short while ago..with Emmeline Pankhurst staring across the square at the transgender youth gathering to share their grievances. Protest is fine and sometimes needed to be heard but this is so misdirected and hateful to women.

Words are literal violence. Unless they're uttered by a sacred caste and its allies and directed against women who say, "No". In that context, they're laudable acts of social justice against the axis of oppression posted by refugee WoC who've endured FGM, forced abortions and other acts that would be horrors if they happened to anybody else.

There were a few people on Twitter saying the protesters weren't northerners due to how they shouted bastards.

The fuck terfs chant went on for some time.

Perfect time to buy a Let Women Speak pin from the adult human female store. Inspired by the chant we broke into when the small number of protesters started shouting trans rights are human rights at Nottingham Speaker's Corner.

Linguini · 24/03/2022 23:01

I'm so fucking embarrassed to be British when I see these TRA mobs.... Like I really cringe and die a bit on their behalf.

littlbrowndog · 24/03/2022 23:07

This is Peter. Who travelled to Manchester. To abuse women. But that’s ok cos he called them terfs.

Just another way to,abuse women with not actually saying word women

Women are still not allowed to gather and speak
Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/03/2022 23:08

I thought these fools had worked out by now that these threatening, abusive "protests" don't do them any good at all in politics or the general public perception.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/03/2022 23:11

This is Peter. Who travelled to Manchester. To abuse women. But that’s ok cos he called them terfs.

He's a man with a high opinion of himself and his hilarious repartee, isn't he?

yourhairiswinterfire · 24/03/2022 23:15

Look at this fine chap. Abusing women is 'legendary'.

twitter.com/pdkmitchell/status/1507091047301758986

Wonder which woman he and the mob thought was the biggest 'wanker'?

The woman talking about being left disabled due to domestic abuse?
The woman who is a childhood sexual abuse survivor?
The woman who is an asylum seeker, talking about FGM, forced abortion, and her work with refugee women?

Hurling abuse at these women is fucking hilarious, but it's those women that are the ''hate movement''?

They're showing everyone exactly what they are, and exactly what their 'movement' is about, and it sure as shit isn't ''trans rights''.

Women are still not allowed to gather and speak
Women are still not allowed to gather and speak
thinkingaboutLangCleg · 24/03/2022 23:18

@Waitwhat23

Men shouting down women. What.a.surprise.

Gender ideology has been a fucking gift to MRA's and Incels. A socially 'acceptable' excuse to intimidate and threaten women.

Solidarity to those attending the WPUK event.

I'd say that gender ideology is an integral part of the male supremacist 'men's rights' movement, judging from its actions, statements and policies.

I didn't realise that at first, because it attached itself to the LGB movement. But it quickly became obvious that the gender identity movement has homophobia at its core. Gender-nonconforming behaviour is natural in young people who are gay, as well as those who are feminist or simply uninterested in sex stereotypes. But the genderists insist it means that a child was 'born in the wrong body'.
